He checked out the outside of the house, the inside, the attic, ALL of the windows, ALL of the electrical outlets, smoke detectors and more. He even tested the appliances. Seriously! The man brought a pyrex cup which he used to fill with water and put in the microwave to test it out. He ran the dishwasher; he looked at things I would never have thought to look at. The turnaround for his report was just hours and it was detailed with pictures. He went over his report with me before he left the home and the piece of mind he gave me was worth every last penny! I hired Jon from CDE to conduct an inspection and radon test. Jon was a pleasure to work with. He looked at every inch of the home, and explained what he saw, weather good or bad. He had no problems answering questions, as I asked. The inspection took longer than I expected, but that is a good thing! That shows he is very thorough in his work, and doesn't overlook anything. I'm in contract for a home as we speak, and had very little time to arrange an inspection. The two people my realtor recommended were both busy, so I ended up contacting Comprehensive Dwellings and Jon was able to meet my time table. I was initially nervous calling an inspector at random, but I got very lucky. Jon did my inspection and radon testing. He was very thorough, explained everything very clearly and was pleasant and professional. I felt like I had a much better understanding of the house: not just the issues that needed remedying (and there were several), but also the positive attributes and general maintenance and safety recommendations. If I could just go on like four more inspections with him, I would be an expert house shopper. Best of all, when I related the details of what he checked to my co-workers, they said they wished their own inspectors had been as thorough. I got his report the following day, and was able to submit the Request to Remedy to the seller before the deadline. Bonus: the seller agreed to all of my remedy requests. I would not recommend this company for your home inspection needs. They completely missed that my furnace overheats and that my balcony is not structurally sound. These are things that had they been caught as they should have been I would not have bought the home. When I had someone come look at my furnace, it overheated within 5 minutes. This tells me that the inspector did not spend the proper time evaluating the furnace to make sure it worked properly. It's unfortunate that you put your trust in these people and they come up short. read more

We hired Comprehensive Dwelling Evaluations to perform two separate home inspections. They did a general inspection, a radon test and an insect infestation inspection. Jon Friend of CDE was a pleasure to work with. He was our main point of contact for the inspections, though another man helped in the second inspection. We had the reports back in less than 24 hours from the inspections. His reports were thorough and well-organized, with pictures to help illustrate items that needed attention. In addition to his exhaustive inspection (which is a huge relief as the homebuyer) and his quick results, Jon made us feel extremely comfortable about the entire process. He allowed us to follow around when it posed no safety issues, and he answered any and all questions we had. We trusted and valued his professional opinion so much that we asked him to come with us for the final walkthrough to check items that the seller was supposed to fix. We had a home inspection in May. The inspector reported the furnace as "functional." Five months later when we went to turn the furnace on for the first time since moving we find out there is a gaping hole in the heat exchanger and the furnace needs to be replaced. Right now it's basically equivalent to starting our car in the house and letting it run. I called Comprehensive Dwelling Evaluations and they accepted no responsibility.
