I had Flinn Inspection Group handle three inspections on houses I was interested in. Two of them came back with horrible inspections so I walked away from them. One home I was excited about & went with came back with just minor issues that I had addressed. Three issues that Flinn Inspection Group completely missed was a leaking dishwasher & leaking garbage disposal. I used the two of them for the first time & it was a nasty mess. Water was everywhere. The last thing was a fan in the bathroom that runs all day everyday that has become a real pain. With these issues & the other issues I would have walked away from this house as well. As a first-time home buyer, I knew I needed to hire an experienced and knowledgeable home inspector. I originally found Flinn Inspection Group on Angies List, where they have an A rating out of 33 reviews. Cameron came out to my almost 90 year old house in Clintonville and spent three and a half hours with me. Being a newbie homebuyer, I peppered him with a million questions which he answered with patience and understanding. All inspectors at Flinn Inspection Group have experience in the construction industry, so Cameron's inspection and advice were all extremely thorough. He cautioned me against refinishing the floors myself, as they were somewhat thin and perhaps would not tolerate an aggressive sanding. He showed me where past repairs had been done on the house and whether they were done to code AND repaired well. He even advised me on possible improvements to increase the value of the house. At the time I called, they were offering a free thermographic survey, so I asked for it. Cameron brought an infrared camera and cranked up the heat in the house. We were able to see how well the furnace pushed heat through all the vents and even cold spots in the walls with thin insulation. The next day, I received a 22 page inspection report, complete with photos and a list of priority repairs, improvements, and maintenance. A few months ago I had a home inspection by Flinn Inspection Group. When booking the appointment, they stated they used infrared technology, assessed gas lines to ensure they were grounded, and checked all appliances for defects and recalls. The inspection did find a few things (which we were grateful for) such as a leaking roof and soft subfloors in the bathroom. In the weeks following the inspection we have found many many things that would have been found in the inspection, had the inspector looked at them. For starters- a contractor giving an estimate to fix the subfloor noticed the gas lines were not grounded. I called Flinn Inspection group to ask about the gas lines (since they were not mentioned in the inspectors report) and was told if the gas lines were not mentioned in the report that meant they were fine. That was incorrect. None of the gas lines were grounded. The dishwasher did not work and this was not found. Additionally, one of the burners on the stove does not work. The sump pump was broken, which was also not found in the inspection. All of the electrical outlets in the garage and outdoors were inoperable and not found in the inspection. We were EXTREMELY disappointed in this inspection and all that was missed.We have passed on our frustrations to our realtor, who stated she had another bad experience with this group recently and has removed them from her recommended list. I would not recommend this inspector due to all that was missed. read more
