Made appt 1 mo. ago; I am told the smog check guy is at a dr appt and he left at 3pm, so could I come back another day. Sigh...
Doreen M.

I tried to come here in 2024, but their smog check machine was needing repair & calibration. No biggie. I took their biz card/email info for another time. They wrote me back a couple of days later, but I had already gone elsewhere. This time, I make an appt with more than 1 month notice for today Jan 6th at 4pm. I love being able to email, book an appt in advance, and just show up vs calling around a ton of places or just having to show up and drive to 4-5 places in a day. Most places do not do email or take advance appts. I get a confirmation email the day before & I click yes to confirm and that I will be there. I interrupt my day to drive over there today & they see me right away. No wait. One other person was there before me, but she was already helped and was just standing and waiting. They seem to NOT have an indoor waiting area with seats. They do have an outdoor table/chair/picnic table type set up, but it's cold today. At first they don't see me in the system, then ask/ think I am someone else/a guy's name, and I state I have an appt, and I confd it via the email reminder yesterday. They do find my appt. I am told at first the smog check guy is at a doctor's appt and he left at 3pm, but other staff are trained so no problem my car will be serviced. A few minutes later I am told that the junior guy isn't comfortable doing it so could I come back tomorrow or another day. I mentioned I couldn't come back tomorrow. (I carved out the time to take care of this today, which is why I made an appt a month ago.) Why wasn't this issue caught a lot earlier in the week or at the very least at 3pm today when the senior tech left, an entire hour before my appt so I didn't drive over for nothing? Are the staff leaving for doctor's appts not checked against which services/appts they are handling/assigned? Sigh... It would have helped if they very profusely apologized for the oversight, or offered a small discount, etc. I ended up going to this place on Venice that I remembered I had been to before like 3x, but seemed to be closed during COVID. That place I had first gone to 9 years ago and like before I was done in 15 min vs 1 hr to 90 min. So I will just keep going there even tho you can only show up/call vs email and make appts.

I've…read moretaken my car here a few times now and they've been incredibly helpful, quick, kind and professional every time. The service is always affordable and high quality. I recently brought my Honda in when my engine was malfunctioning. They took the time to thoroughly check everything out. Unfortunately ended up finding that the engine was done for (very old car) and it made more sense to get a new car for me personally, but they ended up not charging me for the diagnostic. Really appreciated that and think it spoke volumes about their integrity. Enrique specifically made a stressful situation so much easier. I'll absolutely be recommending them to others and would go back in the future without hesitation.

After researching shops in West LA (reviews, convenience, and reputation), I chose Cook's Tires & Service and I'm really glad I did. They handled major work including the 90K service, gasket replacements, new tires, and a starter (plus other items along the way). Enrique and the crew were excellent: honest, straightforward, and easy to work with. Pricing was more than fair, and the service quality was solid from start to finish. Highly recommend Cook's Tires & Service if you want a shop you can actually trust.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience here. I brought my car in on October 6th 2025 for a…read morediagnostic knowing I needed an oil change and possibly had an oil leak. I paid $130 for what was supposed to be a full diagnostic.. a thorough report of issues found after inspection. Instead, I got a single vague paragraph on paper (quote 1) summarizing $2,000+ in repairs with no itemized breakdown. I asked for photos, and they showed me pictures of my engine filters (note you have to get pass air ducts for this). Later that day I requested an itemized quote and suddenly the total dropped by nearly $1,000. Some of the issues just disappeared from the quote. That was my first red flag. How does a "diagnosis" of the same car change that drastically within hours? What did I pay $130 for if not an accurate inspection and record of the car's condition? I decided to check things myself. I ordered my own cabin, engine, and oil filters online for around $35 total (they quoted $180). I replaced the cabin filter in five minutes. Then I went to replace the engine air filter and immediately saw two large tears in both air intake ducts ... the hoses that deliver air into the engine (pre-filter at least). But both were completely ripped. This was never mentioned in either diagnostic, quote 1 or 2 despite being obvious... I paid $130 for them to "inspect" my car, and they missed something anyone could see under the hood? That's not just sloppy... it's negligent. And since accessing the engine filter requires moving those ducts, they had to have seen it. So, recap: I paid $130 for a diagnostic that missed two gaping holes in the air intake ducts something front and center. If I hadn't checked, I'd still be driving with this glaring issue. It's hard not to wonder if I was brushed off because I'm a woman. Im not the type to take someone's word without checking. This felt either lazy or deliberately dishonest. Fast forward to October 11, I came back for what I assumed would be a simple oil change. I'd already paid $130 for the lacking diagnostic, I believe I was informed with my initial quote that would go towards other services. Nope. They charged another $160. But I didn't have the energy to argue and I was planning to bring up the ducts. No one mentioned them... not even when I asked if there were any other issues. So I walked outside opened the hood pointed at the ripped hose and asked "What's this, and why wasn't it in my diagnostic?" The man looks me dead in the eye and says, "Oh, that's not really a big deal... most people don't fix that." Excuse me? I paid for a diagnosis and someone decided this shouldn't be included. Make it make sense. After pressing, he admits it should be replaced... something I already knew since I'd ordered both ducts for $30 online. Then he gives me a verbal quote of $55. I ask him to print it (because I'm not doing he said she said). He writes it up adding "no labor charge" like he's doing me a favor. I already had both parts sitting in my car. When I got home, I realized the quote was for one side the one I'd pointed at. Both were torn. At this point, I've lost all trust in this location. They're not transparent, not thorough, and the way they handled my situation was insulting. I hoped I could trust them with my car, but instead I learned a hard lesson. I'll now personally verify every service I pay for. If you rely on shops for maintenance.. open your hood. Watch a few videos. Understand what's being done before paying the "convenience" premium. Many of these fixes are simple and inexpensive. TL;DR: - Paid $130 for a "diagnostic" that missed two huge air duct tears. - Received inconsistent quotes -- price dropped $1,000 after asking for details. - No transparency or accountability. - Dismissive attitude when confronted. - Trust broken. Would not return.
