Submitting this review 30 days following the passing of my father, my mother's husband of 58 years.
We chose Compassus Houston after my parents became acquainted with Compassus consultant, Ashley Aly, over the past two years they resided at Brazos Tower at Bayou Manor. Ashley regularly meets her clients and their families at Brazos Tower and she obviously does great work, and has a sincere, kind, caring manner. We've since come to learn that Ashley's daily rounds are with clients at Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center, and Memorial Hermann Hospital at I-10 and Gessner Rd.
My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 7 years ago. He was diagnosed with cancer in January, which had metastisized from melanoma and spread to his lungs, bones, adrenal glands and liver. He fell in his apartment and was taken to Methodist Hospital. Surgery was done for his broken arm and hip. The lung cancer, however, proved to be too much. We needed hospice care for Dad's prognosis. We researched other local, hospice companies, lots of mom-and-pop firms, toured the Houston Hospice adjacent to Ronald McDonald House, but it was Ashley and Compassus that had the best solution and the resources to do it. Given Ashley's established relationship with Methodist Hospital and Bayou Manor, she worked with both institutions for us to discharge Dad from Methodist (via ambulance) to the skilled nursing section at Bayou Manor. A hospital bed, oxygen tanks, supplies, three nurses, and a Baptist minister were all there for Dad. My dad passed 4-1/2 hours after he returned to his home away from home.
Grateful also to the good people at Bayou Manor, especially Tony Talley, for their exceptional care in our time of need.
Ashley stayed with us the whole way. She arranged for the funeral home pickup, who arrived a couple hours after Dad took his last breath. I dressed my dad in his favorite clothes with the help of our Compassus nurse and a Brazos Tower caregiver who has helped my parents since they lived there.
This story (or "review") is 100% honest and real. Edited for space, I could pile on more praise for Ashley Aly and Compassus.
If you're reading this, you're going through a painful time with a family member, loved one, or friend. Call Ashley Aly at Compassus and ask her for help.
Another thing: I'm receiving free grief counseling (45 minute sessions) via phone with Peggy Smith of Compassus. Peggy calls me without me having to call her. She is knowledgeable and experienced with survivors' grief and adjusting to life without our loved ones. This is another invaluable benefit and why you should call Compassus. Thank you, Peggy. Blessed to have your support.
