My first step was speaking with the owner (TT) and he made me feel at ease and comfortable with checking the place out. I then flew to Houston and toured the place and the facility was very clean and the staff was very friendly. TJ, the manager (is a gem) has been so nice to work with, extremely helpful and gives me updates on my father (I am in a different state). Every time I talk to my father he tells me that everyone is very helpful and very nice to him! Picking a new home for an elderly parent is such a difficult and overwhelming process, Good Living Community made the decision and transition so much easier. Highly recommend!

I was given the name of Good Living Community Care by a placement company (sorry can't remember who but she was great too!) After 2 full months here at GLCC Mom has not been sick ONCE! The other $8500/mo. nursing home she was in the emergency room 3 times. Mom is happy and healthy and lucid finally. the Manager, Monica, is a real gem and God send. Everyone at this very personal care facility is helpful, accommodating to the point of unbelievable and just as sweet as can be. Wanni, the Asst Mgr, (def not spelled right) is absolutely fabulous, keeps Mom company, interacts a lot with her and makes her laugh. SO GOOD TO SEE! They even have a wonderful stylist who comes to make Mom feel beautiful, Iris Giron, washing, cutting her hair and doing Moms nails and she's very affordable. Speaking of which for all this personal care I pay less than 1/2 of what I was paying at the nursing home. Maritime Pharmacy, takes care of all Moms meds, they have a RN visit as needed and a physical therapist 2x's a week. I could go on and on about how wonderful this place is!

10/27/2024 My mother passed this morning. Adding insult to…read morethat event is the fact that less than 12 hours later, someone was at my daughter's house UNANNOUNCED, to pick up medical equipment. Checking that box off of the white orchid to-do list. Note the recurring theme...UNANNOUNCED. Notified the owner of yet another two failures (unannounced AND at the wrong address) and he proceeds to blame me for not answering the phone or responding to his text during what would be the latest 72-hours of my mother life. When corrected about that, he launches into giving me a lesson on how their business is run. I kid you not - mansplaining as only a true business person could...void of any and all compassion for me or the fact that my daughter's family was unnecessarily bothered today. He ends by telling me he has the best people in the industry - as though there is something wrong with us when we were the RECIPIENTS of horrible business practices and absence of communication. (See screenshots if you don't believe me) ********DO NOT RECOMMEND***********PROCEED WITH CAUTION************* 10/24/2024 BASED ONLY ON THIS REVIEW, my daughter received call from owner - who, as a professional entrepreneur, appears to provide copy/paste responses to negative posts that address 'may' have caused, how you 'may' have felt after having been told exactly how we felt. More emotional trauma... After 42 minutes, he then comes and justifies their actions by stating Welfare Check etc... Still not listening, still not caring about anything other than those ratings and the Medicare payments. 10/23/2024 How to rate negative numbers is something Yelp needs to figure out. I really agree with the Yelper who said the nice, caring, compassionate person who signs you up is NOT reflective of the experience you get. Heck, he doesn't even respond to my texts now. Overall, so far, our experience with White Orchid and in-home hospice care has been an emotionally abusive situation. We are losing my mother, which is traumatic enough - but THIS COMPANY takes stress to aWHOLEnother level. For the second time in 2 months, the chaplain just shows up unannounced and then acts like he's going to force you to let him in the house. Today, he continued to knock despite hearing my dogs go ballistic and me not answering the door because I was in a meeting - AND HE HAD ZERO APPOINTMENT. I told him to leave my property or I would call the cops and his response was "Go ahead! Call them!" FIVE MINUTES LATER he was still sitting in front of my house. I was terrified that he was going to try the door handle and enter on his own...had to brace the door because he would not leave. Same chaplain did the same thing on Sept 17th at my daughter's house and was CLEARLY told not to show up unannounced, EVERYONE needs an appointment. He even went as far as to say that the company tells them to come on out when the family doesn't answer the phone. They must pay him, by the visit because he certainly puts his personal wishes ahead of those of the family. A bully at best. One social worker was the same way before we had him removed from our family's case. He just showed up and got belligerent when I would not let him in the house. Had nerve enough to ask "and just who are you?" The second social worker is more professional, calls ahead of time, schedules, sends texts and asks about OUR needs. First nurse was the same way. Thankfully, Lynn (NOW) schedules and understands that we still work etc. and, even though we are at home, we can't just stop our schedules (virtual or otherwise) because they have 8 minutes to make $150 for the half-hour.

One of the reasons we accepted their services was because they told us they had Spanish-speaking staff, but not a single person spoke Spanish. During one of the most difficult moments of our lives, communication was extremely hard and stressful because no one could properly communicate with our family in our language. We were never properly instructed on how to administer my husband's medications, leaving me confused and unsupported during an extremely emotional and painful time. The nursing care was poor. Many times, if we did not specifically ask for vital signs to be checked, they would not do it. The hospital bed they brought looked old, worn out, and dirty. There was very little communication and absolutely no compassion. The most painful part was after my husband passed away. Paul died at 7:51 PM, and hospice staff did not arrive until 10:44 PM. They then documented his death as 10:44 PM, which was simply the time they finally arrived. They appeared rushed and eager to leave instead of supporting the family during such a devastating moment. To make things worse, after my husband died on Sunday, a nurse still showed up on Tuesday as if she was coming to bathe him. That alone shows the lack of communication and professionalism within this company. This experience added unnecessary pain and stress to my family during one of the hardest moments of our lives. I would not recommend this hospice service.

As those that have experience with this…read morehorrible disease you can imagine the emotional pain & helplessness associated with type of situation. We're at the point now that my Husband & I are considered the sandwich generation. We have older children that are not quite on their own yet & aging parents that need assistance sometimes. My Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when she was 75 years old. Each day was different & had different challenges. Some days she was great & others she needed help eating. The care she required was more than my Dad was physically able to administer. We found an adult apartment in Sugar Land for my parents. They both moved in with the belief my Dad would just need to hit a button when he needed help with my Mom. Unfortunately they were only in Landon Ridge for 6 days. My Dad was frustrated with the response time & left the facility after only 4 days. We decided my house was the best option. We brought in several home healthcare providers to evaluate my Mom. They all agreed that Pallative Care was required. I had zero experience with pallative care prior to my Mom. And when the bath aids left us some adult diapers & wet wipes I was ecstatic. Less things for us to buy later. My Dad was never thrilled with the Chaplins that came over and although we were not in denial discussing EOL was not our favorite topic. Discussing funeral arrangements and our faith with strangers was very uncomfortable and I quickly eliminated that part of Mom's treatment. I was getting frustrated because my Mom has a pressure ulcer on her heal & we needed wound care twice a week. I finally called the offices of the provider & asked that a care coordinator come by to discuss our situation. We went through 4 different palliative care providers before finding Fremont. The turnover in the industry is horrible. Just when you get a great nurse or care team, they leave or change companies. When Fremont was recommended I am sorry to say that I literally grilled them. I wanted details about the wound care, the care team, & what would & would not be provided. The Director at Fremont was so thorough & caring. She seemed to really care not just about my Mom but about my Dad & I being happy clients too. They even hired a bath aid we were previously using so we could continue with some kind faces that we were building relationships with. I can honestly say that Fremont took a lot of stress off of a very stressful situation and we highly recommend them. I pray others don't have to go through the bumps we did and just start off with Fremont.

The check in process was straightforward. Visitors sign in at the front desk, receive a visitor sticker, and then take the elevator to the appropriate floor. The facility appeared clean and well maintained. Like most hospitals, there was a constant beeping of medical equipment, which is to be expected. My friend's room was comfortable, with a private bathroom, and her assigned nurse checked on her regularly. I also appreciated the whiteboard in the room listing the nurse, doctor, and other important information. One thing I wish they had was a water fountain or water bottle filling station on each floor for visitors. It would also be helpful if patient rooms had a small refrigerator for storing leftovers or cold drinks. The biggest disappointment was how my friend's food allergy was handled. She has a documented allergy to green beans, and it was clearly noted in her medical chart and communicated to the nursing staff. Despite this, the kitchen repeatedly served her green beans during her week-long stay. That was both concerning and frustrating. Since she was recovering from surgery and had limited mobility, I had to notify the nurse each time so the meal could be replaced. While the staff corrected the mistake, it should not have happened repeatedly. Food allergies should be taken seriously in a hospital setting, and I hope they improve communication between the kitchen and the medical staff to prevent this from happening to future patients. Overall, the facility and staff were good, but better attention to dietary restrictions would make a significant difference.
