Does a place as unprofessional and disingenuous as Compass Self Storage deserve a proper rating? Not in my eyes. I had a unit there simply for business needs, as I am an Account Manager, and quarterly I have shipped packages up to 30 packages to be placed in their storage. Not only are they more expensive, as the price of the unit continues to climb up, they don't ensure that these packages receive the proper placement, as they are charging me $175 a month including insurance to do so. They refuse packages, causing business needs to be halted, and delayed. Overall, I went with the company due to the proximity to my home, and supporting local businesses. I am updating my previous post to state that I have received compensation for my lost items. It took a long time and a lot of trouble to get a hold of a manager. Overall, I did not have a pleasant experience with Compass Self Storage, but am glad that they had the decency to right their wrongs. read more

I am so tired of them just raising ("High Tides") the cost for no reason maybe to cover down on the spaces that are available. I will likely not return nor refer others to this storage facility. I am not receiving anything for the increase in cost. As some as you move down to a smaller space you cost begin to rise again. CRAZY. read more

I rented a U-Haul cargo van here yesterday. It had just been serviced, but no one had updated the mileage or gas level since the previous customer returned it. It took quite a while for me to pick it up since neither the manager nor her co-worker knew a password to override the wrong mileage. When I returned at 4 PM the same weekday, no one was in the office, so I returned the van, dropped the key in their box, and tried calling once I got home. No one ever answered. Then I noticed that they charged my credit card the estimated amount twice, plus another authorization. The next morning, I still could not get through on the phone. When I drove back to the office with a printout of the three charges to my credit card, the man working there (who had seen me the day before) tried to get me to bring the matter to U-Haul, even though the three charges were placed by Compass Self Storage. I explained that U-Haul's toll free number always has an estimated hold time exceeding 20 minutes so it was quicker for me to drive back to the place that put through the charges. He never apologized but did tell me that eventually the only charge to my credit card would be exactly the same as the estimate they gave me the day before. i have been a customer for a few years. to say the least when i started as a customer everythng was ok. it wasnt until the last 2 years that things have went down hill. buyer beware. your rental increase goes up every 30-60 days. im not talking 10-15 dollars im talking more like 30-40 dollars. the late fee use to be 20.00 dollars now its 45-55 dollars. with new staff new general managers (erin manager at lansing location) and ( eric gneral manager of that location) the place is going downward. they surely will not help you with the pandemic going on nor will they assist you with the late fees. i tried to resolve the late fee before it became a late fee. by calling and emailing. no one got back to me in a timely manner it took me to take off work to go up to the location and get nothing accomplished. again buyer beware. they are not willing to work with you (as the text message states when they want you to pay your storage bill. im in search of finding a cheaper stirage company that wont charge 500.00 a month for a 7.5 by 10... what a joke. read more

This is the first time I ever rented a U-Haul and Compass Self Storage was great. They were extremely helpful, friendly and made it easy. The units are so clean. I love that the street names are the street names in Lansing. I'm glad to know my belongings are safe, secure and will be clean. I would highly recommend Compass in Lansing. read more

I secured a rental unit in April of this year. I thought they were okay but this month the company charged me a late fee. My rental fee is due the 28th of each month. I have paid them on the 1st of each month on line. I attempted to pay on August 1st and the payment was rejected. I have written Bbb and Lisa Madigan's office (attorney's general) because I never had an issue paying on the 1st of each month. I receive a pension check each month. I'm refusing to give Compass Storage a extra penny from my check. I definitely would never refer this company to anyone! I give them a ZERO rating. read more
