What happened to this place?! The first two beers and three lunch items we ordered they were out of and the chef ended brunch 2 hrs early. Then we asked a server to put on the lions game if possible, "Ugh, let me go get my manager..." was the response. While in town recently for a bonspiel at the Detroit Curling Club my team decided we wanted to get some good Detroit style pizza before heading back home. We found a few places, but Como's had the best reviews, and was less than a mile from our VRBO so we decided to give it a shot. We'd never been downtown Ferndale before, which was more bustling than we expected, and parking was looking a bit tricky, but it was a Sunday so the meters were free. There is a big lot behind the restaurant, but we found street parking pretty close. We were also there at a weird between lunch and dinner time, so despite the amount of traffic, the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. I liked the ambience, though it didn't feel like anything unique. The service was good, but not exceptional. But the pizza was great! It was exactly what I had been craving all weekend, and I would definitely recommend this place for some Detroit style pizza! This is damn near perfect Detroit style pizza. The crust is light and the topping and flavor options are on point. We got the Joshua J which is a hot honey pizza. It was incredible. Get extra jalapeños if you like it super hot. The menu has a bunch of other options too like sandwiches, burgers and pasta. The service was great too! It seemed like a good 30 minutes from our drink order brought the table to our food order to the table. The menu is limited so we opted for the burger w/fries along with our sodas. Our waiter was friendly and done the best he could waiting on 4 tables, 2 tables of two and two tables with 6-8 so I can understand the long wait. The place was very clean and welcoming with antiques along the wall, vintage seating and outdoor seating during the seasonable months. My husband and I went to the outdoor bar today during the art fair. When we arrived there were only 2 others sitting at the bar, they were eating and had a drink. We sat there for about 15 min and finally got a water, i told the bartender that we were ready to order, she said, " ill be right back " by now its been 27 minutes. There are other parking areas within walking distance, some free of charge. Today I went to Como's after a kickball game and was extremely disappointed with not only the food, but with staff members as well. When I first arrived at the patio bar the bartender (Chris?) got me a seltzer and took my order and was great throughout service. I understand deep dish takes some time so it gave me time to look at my surroundings, and in that time I felt extremely uncomfortable. Servers expressing their concerns with no response from a manager, a manager walking around with a clipboard seemly doing nothing. Staff, including my bartender, were taking sections randomly leading to customers being unattended to, and adding stress to the staff. When I got my pizza it wasn't what it used to be, even a server said "that looks flat, I'm sorry" and I asked if the dough recipe had changed and everyone said "not that I'm aware of" but it wasn't the Como's pizza I used to love. I have to make the point that I've been in the service industry for over a decade. This was such a bad experience I had to make a post and hope that Como's can get back to what it was when Peas and Carrots first took it over. read more

A group of us made our way over to Ferndale for this gem of a place. It was a beautiful day to sit on the patio and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was fantastic. I don't think anyone in our group had something that didn't turnout great. We dabbled in a couple of appetizers...ravioli and cheese bread. Several of us tried the pizzas (margherita, bbq chicken, dill pickle, Joshua J, and one with all meat). I would have to say that it was one of the best Dill Pickle pizzas I have had and that Joshua J was definitely delicious with that spicy honey. Others in our group tried the Spring and Beet salad, baked spaghetti, steak and steak sandwiches. Like I said...that food was fantastic. They also make their own ranch for all of you ranch lovers out there as well. I will say that both the bottled beer and draft were not as cold as they should be served. I'm not sure if this is because the patio just opened for the season or if that is the norm. I'll also let a little slide for the service as well due to the busy day and our larger group. A lot of people say they love pizza. Not me. I love *good* pizza. I've had so much mediocre pizza in my life that it's downright depressing. I've gotten to where I dread going out to eat at pizza places. Como's served up a classic pizza in the 80s and 90s, then things gradually went off the rails. The pizza was very good, but I would not have described it as great. But, the pizza now? Quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had in my life. The first sign that this is more than a run of the mill pizza place: dill pickle pizza. The description showed that it included dill, which concerned me, because it requires a deft hand to use dill as an ingredient. I went back and forth, checking the other pizzas first, before finally deciding I had to try it. Oh baby. The pickle pizza plays a bit more like a pizza with olives. The pickle comes through, to be sure, but the dill is just a subtle accent. But, what shines through more than anything is the perfectly buttery, crispy edges of this Detroit style pizza. It's also worth noting that the isn't some absurdly thick slab of dough that makes your jaws hurt to gnaw through, but just right at 1/2" thick. This allows the goodness of the toppings to shine through. The thinner pieces also mean you to eat more pizza. Win-win. The Opa has everything you love about Greek food - olives, spinach, feta cheese - but the cheese doesn't overpower the pizza like it does on other Greek pizzas. But, the real stars are the massive garlic cloves. These are the size of your thumb, and they've clearly been roasted first before going on the pizza, so they don't taste harsh. I could eat a whole plate of that garlic. My wife would make me sleep on the couch if I did, but it would be worth it. The Jessy's Girl has pesto, bacon, and arugula and that same amazing crust. I really think I could get any pizza here and I'd love it. I wish I could say the same of the salad. The romaine is fresh and I love the massive, chunky croutons. But, the dressing is thin, mild, and vaguely mustardy. The Parmesan is decent, but I will skip the salad next time. The drink selection is good, and the prices are reasonable. But, dude...there are 22 beers, but no Italian beers? Sorry, but being second generation Italian (pronounced "Eye-talian"), sitting in a beloved Italian restaurant, this bugs me. The service was also prompt and friendly. The prices for the pizza were reasonable. And, the whole place has a casual vibe that makes you want to stay a while. read more

We definitely want to try it in the future as the pizzas we saw coming out looked and smelled great. We started with the guacamole. I was excited to see they add basil. I lived in Alphabet City for a few years and just a couple of doors down from my building was Matilda's: a Tuscan-Mexican fusion restaurant. They served guacamole with basil, which I loved. It was great to see it on another menu and it tasted amazing. For dinner, I went with the turkey Cobb salad. I really enjoyed it. The blue cheese crumbles were a tad funkier than I usually like, but that is my pallet. Our sever was great. I wish I could remember his name. He was extremely friendly and on his game. We came by at 7pm and put our name in for 2 on the patio. We were told it would be a 45min wait but it took 1 hour and 15min. Not terrible but worth noting because this isn't the first time I've had to wait longer than the predicted time here. The patio is so cute!! It's great people watching because it's right at the corner of Woodward and 9 mile. You can watch the cars and sunset on a beautiful night. The bar is great although not open yet at the time of this post. The patio is heated so it's comfortable even after the suns gone down. Food is EXCELLENT!! I always want to come back. We over ordered so we could take home leftovers. There are plenty of vegan and gluten free options and tons of regular options of course too. Service was great! Damn, I'm totally bummed to see COMO's clocking in with anything lower than a four star because my friends and I absolutely loved it. As an out of towner I asked my local tour guide (an old friend and lifelong "Detroiter") took us here because he was showing off Ferndale and suggested that they make a good version of Detroit-style pizza. While I've had it before, my fellow travelers were about to take their first few bites of a style of pizza that they'd never had before. They loved it. Our party of seven ordered three different pizzas and this is what they were: "JOSHUA J" Pepperoni, Jalapeño, Spicy Honey "GRANNY" Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Caramelized Onion "MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS" Crushed Meatballs, Sausage, Pepperoni, Bacon It seemed that everyone had a different favorite but for me it was the Joshua J as that spicy honey finished every bite off just right. First time here with my gf from a friend's recommendation. Definitelly worth the trip! I got the Joshua pizza with vegan cheese because of a lactose intolerance and it was appetizing for sure :) really loved the juicy tender thick pepperoni added to this pizza. The little things like the juicy pepperoni had me mesmerized at how that changed up the taste factor. The subtle honey topping took it over the top and is worth. I can see why this is the house favorite now recommended by our awesome server! Also tried the margarita they had! It was refreshing and a good pair with the pizza. When it comes to pairings with certain alcohol I'm not a huge connoisseur but I loved the way both worked together haha. Try it if you need a suggestion for a drink. Parking was free in the parking lot next to restaurant for the Sunday we went. I believe it's free on weekends and 1.25 an hour on the weekdays. Come early to the lot for lunch since it definitelly got busy towards 1pm when the lot was filled up. Outdoor seating with the heaters above the tables is an extreme positive to any outdoor setup. I think the level of heat was comfortable for me and my girl on the windy weather day. If I wasn't driving, I'd probably try the marg tower. A table nearby had it and looked worth it. One word to describe this place - YUM! First time here and it won't be the last! What an awesome restaurant. Located in beautiful downtown Ferndale...just minutes from 696. Como's is serving up thee best Gluten-Free pizza I've had. I thought I had great pizza from another restaurant down the street in Royal Oak, this place knocks my other review out of the park! Plenty of parking, located in the back of the restaurant. You can pay at the parking machine or download the Park Ferndale app on your smartphone and you can manage your time right from your phone. That way, if you're having fun at Como's you can manually add more time on your parking spot instead of walking back to the lot. (I ended up doing this). Now for the restaurant, really masculine inside, with warm woods, light blues, and leather seating. I loved the interior but the outdoor section (where I ended up sitting) was soooo big! I found out through the server that they have a Live DJ Wednesday-Saturday starting at 7pm. As for the food, I ordered the Create Your Own Gluten-Free pizza with vegetables on top. Honestly, AWESOMMMMEEEEE PIZZA! I have never had crust so puffy, so fluffy, so crunchy yet soft on the inside. The pizza took a bit longer to come out but it was worth the wait. I also ordered the Antipasto Salad which was fresh, crisp, and clean. I loved it! Overall, the staff was very kind and professional and the manager was absolutely on top of her game. Let me start with the location and ambiance. I did not know a lot about Como's, but you can find it easily on the corner of 9 mile, in Ferndale. You literally cannot miss it. I had planned to go to a different restaurant before I noticed Como's, not knowing what this quaint restaurant had to offer even if you're Vegan. The vibe I get from Como's is friendly, and welcoming. If it's your first time there, and it was for me, I was greeted by one of the managers who gave me a bit of history of in addition to one of the wonderfully friendly gentleman who also provided me some details about Como's menu and how they've grown to become such an accommodating place; it was fun to learn about their growth. The menu is simple, and that's a good thing. While the menu is primarily for those who do eat meat, there are some pizzas on specifically for Vegans, and if I remember correctly, you can alter the ingredients for those to your liking (apologies to the staff if I remember that incorrectly). I ordered the Vegan Wimp which I'll post a picture of here below. It's a little spicy with vegan cheese, hot honey (vegan friendly), and peppers. The crust is also gluten-free! I do not normally like gluten-free products. But this pizza hit the mark, and it reminded me of a classic Detroit-style pizza with the crispy crust. Yum! Service was as fast as they could be while short staffed. I got the mustard salmon that came with squash and greens. The salmon was pretty good, it came with a thick layer of the mustard seasoning/jam on top & I liked the squash too. The greens were drenched in either oil or butter or a combination of both. We got the Italian Guac, Cheese Bread, and the Joshua J pizza and they were all delicious but of these 3 things I would probably opt to order the Joshua J again if I could just choose one. The spicy honey on it was such a highlight for me. The only thing that wasn't as great during our experience, is that we felt super rushed through our entire meal. The restaurant wasn't all that busy when we were seated but about 10 minutes after our food came, our waitress asked us if we would like our check and then when we said we weren't quite ready she came back with boxes for our food which we were still working on. Yesterday evening (7:30pm or so) the place was full. The service was ok, but the gave us the wrong salad order. I ordered the greek salad at the patio bar to share with my spouse. They brought the Antipasto out and it turns out the lady seat across from us and it happen to them 3 times. The pizza was good. It took a while to come out. I had to ask how much longer on the pizza because most ppl around the bar who where sat at the same time as me were leaving and my main meal had yet to arrive. The bread/crust was thick, not to my liking but it still tasted fresh. It can definitely use more sauce. That sauce tastes amazing on the joshua j pizza. Though, every thing ordered needed more seasoning. Lol. Right after I questioned the food being ordered; i was told the kitchen was backed up. The Moscow Mule was great! This pizza is the real deal, a home run. The family and some friends stopped here for dinner after Zoo Boo, everything was closed there and we needed some grub. We were seated as a group of 8 outside on a Friday with no wait (yeah!). The decor, inside and out, is very cool. I want to sit in one of those comfy looking couch/booths! The outside has long elevated tables with TVs spread around, and heaters above that made it pretty tolerable. And the view is really cool out to the streets. Service is very attentive without being intrusive. Our server was on top of everything, brought what we needed without having to ask. We decided to get the antipasto salad and MWL pizza. It came pretty quickly, and the salad was really tasty. It does have a dressing that's a little different, so you might want it on the side. I liked it, one of my daughters didn't. A friend of mine is gluten free, and I've heard great things about Como's gluten free pizza. I made a reservation and we were seated very quickly on the patio. A few years ago the service was just crazy, which again, I understand restaurants are so busy. The service and food this time were great and the atmosphere was really nice.
