My daughter went to CTS for just under a year. While she made many gains in her speech during that time, I am displeased with the professionalism of her speech therapist, Melanie. First, CTS keeps a different schedule for the summer months. Melanie offered my daughter's day and time for Speech to another family without first asking me if I would like to keep the day & time that we'd had for months. Second, when it came time to do my daughter's re-eval, Melanie emailed me the report. When I asked for her to review the report with me, she called me the next day and asked, "What questions can I answer?" I replied that I had not read the report because I thought the purpose of the call was to review it together. She then told me to hang up, read the 6 page report myself, and to call her back once I had read it. To say I was taken aback by her unprofessionalism would be putting it mildly. Once we did review the report, Melanie informed me that she recommended that my daughter be discharged. I asked her when my daughter's last session would be and she replied, "we already had it". There was no transitional period, no goodbyes, nor celebration for my daughter making the gains she made. In my almost 20 years of working in Education, I have never witnessed families being treated the way my family was by this speech therapist. My daughter is 3 years old, which can be a difficult age to work with. I do believe more professional learning should be in place for the therapists at CTS to provide additional strategies to them for creating therapeutic environments that better support very young children. read more
