The current occupants, Crown Liquors, have here a solid selection of Craft Beer, Wine, and Hard Liquor across 2 floors; the street-level main floor and a great wine cellar area in the basement. It's an easy, convenient walk from anywhere downtown or the Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave) corridor. Historical Tidbit: The building itself is a fascinating piece of Indianapolis history. It was built in 1894 to function as a more permanent home for the Indiana Dental College (IDC). For a couple of decades, this was the spot where the city's dentists trained before the school was acquired by Indiana University and moved to its current location several blocks west to the campus of IU Indianapolis. In my opinion, crown has a wide selection of quality, distilled spirits, at what I find to be reasonable prices. It is possible to find unique and interesting items at their stores. It is a chain, and they do have a robust searchable website presence. The staff are generally very helpful. So, if there is something in particular, you're looking for, and can't find it at a crown liquor location you're visiting just ask. Often the staff will be able to recommend another location and perhaps even be able to check with staff at that other location to see if the alternative store has what you're looking for.

Since that time I have made one or two return trips to find the store clean and safe, It is easy to locate the items I need. Recently I was preparing ingredients to bake Brandy Snaps Cookies using a British recipe that called for a very small amount of brandy and I did not have any. This store sold several varieties of brandy in tiny bottles, which was helpful as I didn't think I would need any more than the 1 tablespoon the recipe called for. The clerk was helpful in recommending what I needed for the recipe. In fact, other customers in the store looked up the recipe on Pinterest and suggested the particular type of brandy I needed for the recipe. The store is clean and the staff is helpful and friendly. I wouldn't say I am a regular customer, but when I need a specific item, it is always available and I feel safe shopping at this location.

Every single person who is inside the store is required to have an ID proving that they're over 21. It doesn't bother me; I always have all that stuff in my purse anyway. What does bother me is people complaining about the rules. Y'all quit that. Those people are just doing their jobs, and anyone over 21 knows that they must keep an ID on them at all times. Don't be an ashole. Bring your ID, and Be Nice to the employees. That bulletproof cage they work in just might be there for your own safety. Just sayin'
