There's a free wine tasting every Friday?! How'd I never know?! What a fun way to start the weekend. I've only been once, but our wine connoisseur was friendly and talkative. The wines he had us try were very good - especially the Argentinian Malbec. The best part was that all the wines he showed us were only $9 - wow. So nice to be introduced to a new wine that I actually like and then find out it's that cheap. After a certain point of the night, you have to wait in a waiting room and order what you'd like through the glass. read more

Apparently store hours aren't a thing. Dude literally told me to go away, he was done serving customers for the day. With hours until close. First time here, never coming back. read more

Clean store , good service ! Got what I needed quickly and went on my way to explore the city

Love this place. My roommate Charlie and I drink heavily all day and night. Hamn's and Crown. It's convenient and 200ft from my house. Great people and they even run a tab. What a godsend when you are 3 sheets to the wind and can re-up at our friendly neighborhood liquor store. Across the street from English Ivy another great place to drink the day away. Stay thirty my friends! read more

I gave them 1 star because you can't give 0. I live in the neighborhood and have to say the new owners have ruined this establishment. Next to no wine and you can't even go in to see what they have. The beer selection is poor and no one can see the liquor. I love all of the staff who are great people. Sadly, I will take my business elsewhere. What a shame. read more

Looking for free fun on a Friday night in the Chatham Arch/St.Joseph neighborhood? Turns out, Alabama Liquor has you covered. I've been meaning to check out their free Friday night wine tastings for years and received a monthly nudge from their Urban Times ad. The quick and casual tasting features three wine tastings and 10% discounts on those bottles for the evening. The store offers liquor, cheap beer, craft beer, and a decent sized room filled with wines starting as low as $8 (sweet, dry, you name it). The location is hard to be on Alabama Street within walking distance of Mass Ave and the Old Northside neighborhood. The exterior of the building and front entry room don't look like much but the back room where the Friday night wine tastings takes place is cozy and filled with good vibes. read more

Great service and selection of liquor. Conveniently located steps away from our airbnb. Definitely recommend!

This is literally your neighborhood L store when you're wanting a glass of wine to jump start your weekend! Lol. They have wine tasting every Friday that starts at 5:30... It's usually your neighborhood neighbors who come in and out of the L store and the employees are always friendly and helpful when selecting The store is extremely small but it's super cute. I love small stores where I can literally get what I need and get out. lol. The prices are reasonable and if you want to stay within a certain budget you can always ask for help. I wanted a semi dry wine.. and the employees there are very knowledgeable and you can tell they really do care about finding you the perfect wine to go with your dinner and what not. Positives: Location Friendly Small Helpful staff Wine tasting on Fridays. Cons: Wine tasting time frame should be longer :) read more

Not real pleased about the guy working the counter wearing a Trump hat under the sign with a rainbow stating that everyone is welcome. I'll find another place to shop read more

I recently moved to the neighbor and was happy to see a local liquor store in the area. My roommate and I popped in to check it out quickly one Friday evening. The owner was there, Terry, and was one of the happiest and most welcoming people I've met in recent memory. He greeted us with a warm welcome and then extended an invite to their weekly Friday wine tastings, along with some hilarious puns. It's great to support local, and I can't wait to keep supporting this business. Great service, local brews and distillery options, moderate prices, and convenient location = happy me! read more

I've driven by it, I've seen the homeless standing outside, and I've heard friends talk about it, but until the other day, I had never stopped at Alabama Liquors, and that's a "my bad" on my part. I'm sorry Alabama Liquors, please forgive me. About an hour before I had guests arriving for a cookout, I had a hankering for brats soaked in a nice dark German beer. The problem: I had no dark German beer, which only made me want it that much more. I knew I didn't have enough time to run to my normal store, so I made a mad dash to Alabama Liquors in hopes they had what I needed. They did.. and more. Walking in I wondered what was so special about this place. Walking into the "secure area" that I assume isn't open at night for customers, I only noticed 5 or 6 refrigerated coolers for beer, some liquor, and just a couple bottles of wine. Most of the 6-packs of beer had bottles missing from them, and I had to hunt for one that was full. I found the German beer I was looking for, fortunately, and headed up to the cash register. Then, I noticed the "other room". The "other room" is kind of hidden, and I wouldn't have seen it if I wasn't paying attention. There was no sign, there were no flashing lights, and there were no employees advertising it. When I walked in, I realized why people like the place so much. The "other room" is full of wine. It's priced pretty decent compared to the big stores, and a selection that I could look through for about 45 minutes to select the perfect wine. The "other room" made my take on Alabama Liquors make a complete 180, and I found myself wishing I had more time to browse. Checking out, the cashier commented on the German beer that I was buying. I mentioned it was to soak brats in, and he suggested mixing it with another (and thereby saving half a bottle of each for me to drink) to make the perfect stew for a brat bath. I'm pleased to say I took his advice, and the brats were deliciously fantastic. Give this place a try.. and don't forget about the "other room"!! read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. This place is walkable distance for me, so I continue to give them chances, but they are just inconsistent. When others come in, they are allowed inside the building to look for what they want. When I show, I'm not given this option. I've purchased from the store numerous times, showing my ID each time. I've often seen them not card others that they have seen before. However, whenever I show up, I'm asked for my ID regardless of how many times I've been there. When I ask if they remember me, I get yelled at. Today was no exception. The two workers were very rude, even shrugged their shoulders as if they didn't care about my question. However, they are very nice and respectful to others. read more

This place is everything you'd want a neighborhood liquor store to be. Great selection of beer, liquor, and wine! The staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable. They're also always willing to order something they don't have if they're able to get it from their distributors. Some reasons why I love this place -The staff (as mentioned above) -Location from me -The fact that I can mix and match any beers to make my own sic pack. I was surprised when I was told I could take a beer out of a new pack of 4 or 6 beers. -The wine selection is pretty stellar! -FREE Friday wine tastings! If you're in the area then definitely stop by this place. read more

Watch out for the crack heads and the old rich men... By far one of my favorite liquor stores in Indy with a fairly decent wine selection. I highly recommend the Santa Ema Carmenere from Chili, the reserve will set you back $13. It was thought to be Merlot grape growing in Chili but then later DNA tasting proved it to be a Bordeaux brought from France. Yummy and affordable! read more

Alabama Liquors is a great neighborhood liquor bar! They have a decent selection for a small location and are always willing to order something for you if they don't carry it. They have a great wine selection and often have wine tastings on Friday afternoons. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have great hours so you can drop in when needed. They also carry cigarettes and some mixers, including the occasional lemon or lime. Overall, for a small neighborhood liquor store they're excellent. You can definitely get better deals at other larger locations, but they're small, local and personal so I prefer to give my business to them. read more

Great local neighborhood liquor store. Good selection of hard liquor, beer, and cider in the front room; including cold drinks. Then in the back room is the hidden wine room! There is free tasting's every Friday night at 5:30. Usually it's wine, but one time I went and it was craft beer. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Great selection of wines; unique and not the standard wines found in the grocery store! Wines from all over the world and different varieties. If you live in St. Joseph or Old Northside, stop in! read more

I enjoy having a within-walking-distance liquor store with such nice guys running it. They always are pleasant and willing to chat it up, help you find what you're looking for. I've been back to their wine room and I've never seen that many bottles in such a small area! - will definitely have to come to one of their tastings if they still have them. read more

This place is small but surprisingly has a good variety. The wine room is epecially tiny but jam-packed with bottles. I stopped in on a Friday night and there was a wine tasting going on. The store gave me a 10% discount because I bought one of the "featured" wines. The bullet-proof glass can be a bit intimidating but everyone there is very friendly. The one time I saw someone sketchy hanging out in the parking lot, an employee chased him off. Overall a great store and -- bonus -- within walking distance for me! read more

This place is your go to neighborhood liquor store. Though it doesn't have the widest selection ever it does have plenty of locals who will crack jokes and make friendly conversation with you. Friday's they have wine tasting with cheese and crackers, crowded, divey, just about the right thing to help you "wine" down from a long week. On Sunday's they're open 12-5. read more

My friend had lived in this neighborhood for 7 months before we ventured down the street to check out Alabama Liquor. We were walking back to her place from the Pride Festival in June and decided to stop in. The place is super small--but stocked. Not a huge selection of wine but there was a selection of hard liquor to chose from. We settled on a tiny bottle of rum. We weren't gettin' too turnt before the bars. Check out was a little strange. It was hard to know where to form a line because it's such a small space. There were two lines going at once--or maybe my friend and I are just a lil awkward. (Likely) Great for if you live in the neighborhood! Small. Prices are fair. But I wouldn't venture out of your way to visit. read more

Unbelievable customer service. Great selection of beer and wine. Love being able to buy individual beers and there are no restrictions on which beers you can select like most create-your-own selections at other stores. On my last visit, there was a mistake in the amount that I was charged. I didn't catch this until a few days later. Lynn couldn't have been more apologetic and willing to make it right. This is not necessarily a convenient location for me but I will go out of my way to visit again. read more

A small neighborhood liquor store that offers wine tastings every Friday. Yes, please! Alabama Liquor is the store you should support if you live in The Old Northside, St. Joseph Historic Neighborhood, Chatham Arch, Herron Morton or any downtown neighborhood really. Small but good wine selection often with classical music playing in the wine area. A good craft beer selection offering some local brews. It's nothing more than a small neighborhood liquor store though so I'm not suggesting you drive in to visit it but if you're close, definitely give them a try for your go to stop. read more

A quaint community liquor store that host weekly Friday evening wine tastings from 5:30 - 7 p.m. The Wine Shop boasts a diversity of wines, beer and spirits. The owner and long time employees are delightful, helpful and knowledgeable. Either they or a rep from a wine distributor takes us on a journey of wine! Their prices are great as well. There is a group of long-time attendees who treat everyone who comes in like family. It's a Cheers environment for Wine drinkers. read more

Don't be intimidated by the bullet proof glass--this is an excellent liquor store! Their craft beer and wine selections are way above average, and the guys who work here are beyond nice. If you go at the right time, you can linger and catch a little of Jeopardy! or Brian Williams on the tube. Their set-up is kind of odd because all the wares are behind the glass. If you're just getting a pack of Luckies and a tall boy for the road, you can get full service, but otherwise you can go behind the glass and make your own selections. Even when the door is locked later in the evening, they've always let me in (but perhaps I just don't look like I'm capable of a hold-up!). The back room--which is accessed by creeping around behind the registers--holds a satisfying assortment of wine, and they always have a few different types on sale in the front. I've had great success purchasing random bottles of vino for get-togethers requiring an alcoholic offering for the host. The craft beer selection is constantly rotating. They carry all the local brewers, plus other regional suds. Tip: You can buy single bottles or mix-n-match a six-pack--they'll pull out a calculator and average all the prices of the different beers! This is one of the few businesses in my tiny neighborhood of St. Joseph, and I'm more than happy to patronize it. read more

A little out of the way, especially when you're caught amid sub-zero temperatures, and walking from a hotel downtown, near the Colts' stadium. Nevertheless, received good service, good selection, and acceptable prices. read more

Randomly stopped in Saturday night. It was the closest liquor store between our dinner and a friend's spot and we didn't want to show up empty handed. Great customer service and they have fresh lemons and limes. Like when does that ever happen? Made the pregame even better! read more

Guys in here are really nice. As of right now woodchuck is cheapest anywhere that I've found downtown indy. You can choose your own stuff rather than stand behind the bars/windows and order from the cashiers. They have specials today 4pack of kahula white russians were only $5. The place is very tight though. Being a semi petite girl it was hard for me to turn around much inside the place but I guess most people know what they want, get it and leave rather than browse around and look at all the specials like me. read more

Terrific neighborhood liquor store. Tiny space with a nice selection, decent prices and for the most part friendly staff. This place is a great place to have so close to home. The store is small but well stocked. Dont fear the glass walls inside, just give a nod and they let you right in to browse. I try to avoid this place at all costs cause the gay guy who runs the register is so unbelievably obnoxious. Ok beer selection but is higher priced than most local competitors, also all their 6 packs are always broken up and missing a beer or two. read more
