What can I say. It was delicious all of it. I went there for the free lentil soup, and splurged a bit on their chickpeas stew. Everything was great. The vegetarian options were plentiful. The hot chocolate was to die for. The vibe of the spot was cool, it made you feel like you were going into an island restaurant. I would love to go back.
Review #1300 In continuance of Yelp's month long vegan shops was the event at Secret Garden, which almost seemingly was hidden, literally. I arrived around 5:30PM; it was dark and the location was almost unnoticeable, but I had to see fellow Elite, Lina, standing in front. I made my way to the counter and spoke with the young lady, at the counter, who I later found it was the daughter of the owner. She was awesome, as she informed me that the lentil had sold out, but I was given the chickpea curry, which was excellent. It became very brisk and the soup came in handy. Also, we were provided an additional drink. I wanted to support the business, so I purchased a spiced chai-- it was a hot drink and I preferred over the cold drink. Overall, this place was excellent. The soup, drinks, and customer service. I would definitely recommend and would suggest that some sort of signage be put out take it more noticeable at night. I'll definitely return here, in the future!
Roots and culture, boho chic decor, piping hot teas. There was good music playing with great menu items and comfy tropical decor. Great selection of vegan and healthy options, smoothies. Juices and teas. I would come back just to try the whole beverage menu...especially the drinks curated by horoscope. My lentil soup was so tasty and just settled your body...yum
The secret garden is a magical small space. It reminds me of reruns of the magic garden tv show It featured two women who sang educational songs and told stories and talked to puppets. There was a garden that flowers with cards that had jokes written on them. Anyway I like the green benches, mirrors and the unique way the menu is hand written throughout . Thanks Yelp for this community event, I have been here before had never had the food. I actually finished the last of the lentil soup. It surprisingly had black eyed peas. It was very flavorful and filling. I tasted cardamom smoked paprika and a dash cinnamon . I could be wrong. The hot chocolate was delicious. I slipped a little bit on the premises and then carefully walked to the bus stop to enjoy the rest at home. This is a very peaceful place.
All my Yelp instincts flew out the window in the cold that I barely remembered to take a photo of the goods. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Secret Garden BK has some really great lentil soup and drink. A part of me is still traumatized by early 2000s vegan food, always in fear that I'll pay too much for a flavorless plant-based entree. And even when the flavors are there, vegan food is almost never salty enough. But Secret BK's lentil soup proved to be super flavorful and perfectly salty. I would come back just for the lentil soup, which is great because it's the perfect treat for the winter and fall. The hood healer is also a nice non-caffeinated drink that's almost reminiscent of a horchata, but milder and more soothing. Both the soup and the drink fit the vibe of the calm exterior. There's a safe spiritual space created by the smell of incense, jazzy lofi/neo soul tunes, books, accessories, and chalkboard signs. Service was also warm and welcoming. While I didn't mind sitting outside for a bit, it was a little too cold to stay and nowhere to go to the bathroom. I can definitely see myself coming back in the winter/fall for takeout, but would likely wait for the spring and summer to sit outside and try their smoothies. Alert Alert, I've found a hidden gem! I hadn't been back to Secret Garden since the pandemic, and must've forgotten how delicious they are. All Elites were given a large cup of lentil soup and a Hood Healer iced beverage. The lentil soup was warm, hearty, and perfectly spiced - I ate about half and reheated the rest later. I'm not usually a lentil girl but this was SO flavorful and delicious, I ate the whole thing. The hood healer tastes somewhere between an iced chai and an iced chocolate - it was refreshing and just a little bit rich; perfect for a warm fall day. I also grabbed an oatmeal cookie, which was crispy and paired perfectly with the hood healer. Despite being a small space, Secret Garden makes good use of their sidewalk space. Their was a vendor selling crafts, upbeat music, tons of benches, and even a chess set and deck of cards. Their greenery and decor brightens up their block. Service was lovely and I will definitely be coming back to try some of their astrology themed beverages!
Loved getting to try this vibey little cafe in crown heights. It's always nice when owners decorate their businesses with a unique aesthetic, giving it personality. That is definitely the case with Secret Garden. The lentil soup was absolutely delicious. Especially impressive given it's vegan. I wish I had the recipe because I would make it at home all the time. The hood healer was a refreshing sweet treat that gave me elevated chocolate milk vibes. I'd happily come back to try some of the vegan meat sandwiches. Hands down one of my favorite Black Owned Vegan spots in Bedstuy. The spot is magical. The decor is beautiful, the handwritten signs are charming and their food and drinks are flavorful and nourishing. I had The Hoodhealer hot and it was delicious. I've never tasted anything like it before and will definitely be back to order it again. The Vegan Lentil Soup was also delicious. I loved that there were also black eyed peas inside. I can definitely see myself coming back to get this during the colder months.
Not so secret because the vibes of this place are hard to miss. The Garden is an oasis that offers a welcome break from the street. Walking up to the covered counter feels like being transported to another place. I got three things. First, I had the iced hoodhealer without the honey to make it vegan. Honestly, it was sweet enough without it, and totally refreshing after the bike ride to get there. Second, I got a cup of the chickpea stew. I was hoping to snag their lentil soup, which comes strongly recommended, but one sip of the stew was like no regrets. Thirdly, I got the curry sandwich with a side salad, another top item from their menu. I couldn't put this down and finished it. The curry filling was flavorful, and the salad with its thin slices of crisp apple was a fresh compliment. I love love love Yelp's recent campaign to support veggie/vegan restaurants, which is totally in line with their focus to support small businesses and the local community. Well isn't this little spot just adorable? Am I vegan? No. Did I enjoy the lentil soup and the Hood Healer? Sure did... they were both delicious. The hood healer was served over ice - the cardamon and chocolate flavors meshed well and was surprisingly not too sweet! I'm a savory person, gheregird don't appreciate sweets too often - this hit the spot. The lentil soup, I brought home and heated it up a little later - great flavor! There was a slight twist on the soup - I definitely tasted a bit of a coconut flavor in there as well. The outside of this place is a vibe and was all that was open today when I visited. There is a window you walk up to place your order - the woman who was working today was sweet and took care of me right away. The decor was very hippie, cool and cozy; music was playing and there were a few seats outside. If you're vegan or if you're not, Secret Garden has something for you - something that will lift your spirits. Thanks so much, Secret Garden - I'll be back for some of that goodness
Thank you to secret garden oasis and Yelp for the experience. Secret garden is an outdoor location with seating outside and a window to order from. Was greeted promptly when I arrived and my order was taken. I wasn't really sure what to expect but I was wowed. I tried the hood healer drink and it was sooo good!! When I read what was in it, I wasn't sure what to expect but it was so good and chocolatey. Didn't know how all the flavors would go together but they blend beautifully. As for the lentil soup, I'll support their claim that it's the best one in bk. Definitely the best I've tried ever. Wonderful place with wonderful people. Thanks again!!
WOW. I haven't been able to stop thinking about this place since I visited and I plan on going back today. This incredibly gorgeous little outdoor walk up community space serves feel good meals and unique drinks, with a focus on plant-based ingredients and holistic health. I tried the Hood Healer which I can only describe as heavenly. I decided to have it cold (because I'm psycho) and I finished it in about 10 minutes. Chocolatey and cinnamony, made with coconut, tumeric, honey and cardamom. I cannot WAIT to get this for my partner later this month. I also had a hot cup of lentil soup to go, which was magical. A heaping serving of healing goodness with herbs and spices. Outside there are places to sit, books, handmade jewelry and incense for purchase, and some free colors and snacks for kids. The menu looks to change often so I can't wait to try more!
Delicious is the one word that I would choose to describe how the taste of the vegan lentil soup, the hood healer drink and the matcha latte that I purchased. All three menu items were absolutely amazing. The hood healer drink really impressed me. As I sipped my drink, I was intrigued and delighted at the same time by how good it was. This is a bespoke and inviting neighborhood storefront. On a Saturday afternoon, they only had a sidewalk walk-up counter available. Not sure if they have indoor seating on other days. They had a table and a few benches for seating outside. The Hood Healer beverage was delicious. It was served iced, but I think it would be quite tasty warm as well. It had cardamom and chocolate and was not overly sweet. Even though it was cold, it felt like a sip of comfort and coziness. I also tried the coconut latte, which was pleasantly sweet with very subtle coconut flavor. The oatmeal raisin cookie was a nice balance of crunchy and chewy. The vegan lentil soup was delicious. It was wonderfully flavorful and hearty. Absolutely a must try. The menu and featured dishes were displayed across colorful handwritten signs. A great business to support locally! read more
This is a very cool experience and it was nice I was invited to this experience. I love the place a lot with the exterior decor. It was a bit much though with the menus all over the place. The menus were scattered and placed in different places of the restaurant. There's no indoor seating and just outdoor seating with the benches and tables. They got a chess game set up. It looks like you're enchanted and in a witch's coven when you're here. They got drinks for each horoscope and many herbal drinks. As part of the community experience, we got to try the Hood Healer, which consisted of cacao, turmeric, cinnamon, coconut, honey, and oat milk. It tasted really good. They honey kept sitting at the bottom of the drink so I had to keep on stirring the drink to mix the honey in with the rest of the drink. I also got a vegan lentil soup and it was pretty good. It was a bit salty. There was a lot of cooked onions and not that many lentils though. The consistency is very thin and watery. It was very green. Overall, the good healer drink and lentil soup were really good and healthy. It was very nice to have that on a cold day. Thank you Morlene and Yelp for this experience. read more

Lentil soup was delicious and nutritious. The lentils might've been puréed, but this was much more Black Eyed Peas and it was hardy. Loved all the juice options It is a perfect place to go for a quick meal or spend a nice day as they have a cute outdoor seating area read more
Continuing the Meatless in Brooklyn month, I was stoked to visit the Secret Garden. As I walked to the garden, I really felt as if I was in the Caribbean. This hip oasis offers vegan options, smoothies, chai, soups and a chill vibe I was craving in a gloomy afternoon. Elites were given 16oz vegan Lentil soup or 16oz Hood Healer beverage. Joy, greeted me and prepared my freebies. She has such a nice spirit and was very welcoming. As she prepared I was looking at all the offerings posted around her window. One post has drinks by horoscopes; how did Secret Garden know that Virgos ( moi) love lavender and vanilla bean? The Hood Healer beverage has cacao, coconut milk, cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric, vanilla and honey. My lovely items were ready and I wanted their spiced chai iced to go as well. The Garden offers delicious sandwiches like vegan chopped cheese and chicken salad and vegan blt. There are reggae Sundays to chill, relax and listen to beautiful music. I drank the iced chai as I headed back to the bus to go home. It was absolutely delicious; I love cardamom so much and the chai was just a perfect ending to the afternoon. Thank you Morlene, Joy and the rest of Secret Garden and Yelp! To get here: Take shuttle or "S" train from Franklin Avenue Fulton then walk to C train Euclid Avenue bound. Ride 3 stops to Utica then walk @10 minutes to Lewis Avenue. read more

This was such a nice event. I have really enjoyed the vegan restaurant Yelp events. I came on a windy Thursday and lentil soup sounded like a great idea. You definitely couldn't miss this place. It is so cutely decorated--it felt like a true oasis in the middle of Bed Stuy. I checked in and ordered two lentil soups (my mom wanted one) and a Hood Healer (hot). The lentil soup was very flavorful. I was surprised to find black eyed peas inside. The Hood Healer was delicious--just what I needed on a chilly day. It was perfectly sweetened and spiced just right. I would like to try the cold version. As I was waiting, I took notice of their offerings. Everything sounded yummy. Thanks to Secret Garden for opening their doors to us, and thanks to Morlene and Erin for organizing this tasty event. read more
As a vegetarian, it is delightful to be able to order anything from a menu. I love vegan places, and there are actually a few in the neighborhood. Great location, a few minutes from the A/C subway line, and accessible by bus. There is street parking but it can take a while to find a spot. Come here for a snack while you're working at the Macon library, or for an early dinner before a show with live music around the corner at LunÀtico. So happy about this partnership with Yelp! The hood healer is surprisingly good. My brain is always confused by hot milky drinks that aren't coffee based, but I really like the spice mix and it isn't too sweet. Stays blended through the end, no stray clumps of anything at the bottom. The lentil soup is delicious. The broth is so rich and creamy and the beans and lentils are cooked through without losing texture. It's flavorful without being spicy, and as filling as it is, it doesn't weigh you down. I'd love to have eaten the soup here but it was too cold and windy to sit outside, so I took my order to go. It stayed hot in the to go cup and didn't spill, which is impressive! The cookies are soft and rich enough to fatten up a paper bag (they're not vegan, so I think they might have real butter). My favorite is the oatmeal raisin. Editing to add: I just noticed from other reviews that maybe there is indoor seating? The door was shut when I visited, and the counter for ordering looked well established outside. Maybe they open the indoors later in the season? I'll have to go back to find out, and to try all the other soups and sandwiches. read more
Came on a rainy autumn day which is perfect weather for soup! The lentil soup was warm and hearty. It's obvious the soup was carefully cooked for a long while because the lentils and beans broke down, contributing to a creamy and thick texture. The Hood Healer is autumn in a cup. It tasted strongly of cinnamon and possibly cardamom (?) with a hint of coconut. I loved these flavors. So to have them all blended together was perfect for me. I love when Yelp highlights establishments in Bed Stuy. Secret Garden is a crowd favorite with a unique street presence. For this visit we received at the vegan lentil soup and the Hood Healer beverage. While you wait you can get dine free snacks, play games or read some books. I've been a fan of the vegan lentil soup which I received years ago during a Bed-Stuy food crawl. It was delicious and plentiful. The Hood Healer beverage can be prepared hot or cold. I got it hot. It has cacao, coconut milk, cinnamon, tumeric, vanilla and honey. It was tasty. Would definitely visit again. They also have beverages based on your zodiac sign and their menu is completely vegan/vegetarian. read more
The atmosphere of this shop exemplifies the experience . It feels like a tropical oasis amid the urban surroundings. The music and insence burning, bekons come take a rest and reset yourself. The food is unmistakably soul renewing. The earthy flavors and warm spices are comforting. Reminds me of Caribbean style country fare , Vivid aromas of outdoor fireside cooking. My son was with me, he did some coloring using the supplies provided. He then saw the chess set and immediately said he'd have to come back with his friend as they are avid chess players. He guzzled most of the Hood Healer drink ,we loved it. The lentil soup was equally delicious. The menu looks like a vegetarian's dream. I liked that there are whole food options and not food impostors " impossible burgers" etc. We then checked out the books amd handmade jewelry Of course my son indulged in the complimentary chocolate dipped almonds before we left. We'll be back for more food amd juices again soon and of course- a few games of chess. read more
I think this place is really special experience with a unique flair and charm. There is no indoor seating area which maybe problematic in a colder season. But the outside seating was cozy and cool and charming with books to read and music playing. I thought the cold hot chocolate was amazing with smooth creamy chocolate not overly sweet but flavorful with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. This place is truly a one-of-a-kind gem in Brooklyn. Beyond the hearty vegan lentil soup (perfect as is but I did take it home to add a dab of sour cream) and the delectable Hood Healer with rich cacao and notes of cinnamon, this is the kind of place I could see myself hanging out all the time. The incense, handmade goods, assortment of seating and entertainment options, all while looking out on a classic Bed-Stuy street, were exactly what I'd want in a community experience. Omg I wish could have that good healer on a daily basis. On a breezy fall afternoon that good healer warned me up nicely, I felt like I was home all cuddled up on my couch. The lentil pea soup was great as well but my heart and soul and are in love with the drink. The place was only open for takeout so we picked up at the window but the service and offerings are so nice. Will definitely be back in the area soon. read more
Wow! Meatless food can fun! I had a lentil soup that had black eyed peas. That soup had so much flavor and a little kick. I also had a chai hot tea while I waited for my chicken wrap. I asked for it without onions somehow they made it to the wrap I casually removed. This did not bother me because that wrap was so juicy. The texture of the fake meat there is no way! It tasted like a chicken patty. I also asked for a chipotle mayo. They do vegan mayo and I am a Hellman's dark blue cap girly! That vegan mayo hit the spot! I will be returning. Incredibly humbled to be selected to try this incredible spot! The person behind the counter was lovely and quick! They generously offered the most delicious lentil soup I've ever had in my life as well as an incredibly refreshing hood healer beverage. I came with a friend and they loved their heartbeet juice, coconut rose latte, and lentil soup. I imagine everything on the menu is intentionally crafted with love. I look forward to returning here in the future, perhaps when the weather is warmer to luxuriate with their delicious and healthy food while basking in the sunshine. They have plenty of outdoor seating options. read more
Received a warm lentil soup and drink, they came out steaming hot perfect for the cold weather. They don't have indoor seating , but the storefront is super cute. The barista told me the drink is like a hot chocolate, and she's so right! The food is delicious and the spiced well! My food came out in less than 10 minutes, and the street isn't too chaotic for parking! I would love to come back here on a nice day and sit outside. read more
Great vegan food in a beautiful, cozy space. You can tell everything is made with love upon the first bite. The hood healer was like a hug in a cup and the lentil soup was soothing (although there were a lot of black eyed peas in there which threw me off). I also got the curry chicken sandwich was really good. Will definitely be back for more! read more
I'm glad I didn't skip this event. I finally had the chance to drop by this past Saturday and they were super busy. It's a very tiny grab and go cafe kiosk on Lewis Ave but it's also really decorated well with all this bohemian hippy stuff and filled with fun colors and cute signs everywhere. I liked the little astrological signature drinks. I'm a spiced iced cacao! I was surprised with the Yelp order because I thought it was either just the drink or the soup and much to my delight she presented me with both. The Hood Healer came with cacao, tumeric, cinnamon, coconut, honey, and oatmilk over ice. That was such a festive fun fall drink. The lentil soup I had later but in all honesty I'm not the biggest lentil soup fan and this was the best I've ever had in my life. I don't know what they season this with but it's magic. I think it had coconut milk as well so it added that extra creamy zip to it. I'm a fan. The drinks and smoothie flavors are also all so fun that I'd love to check them out again. read more
