Community Concern for Cats has been an important part of my life in multiple ways: as a foster parent, as someone who has adopted cats, and also donated to the organization. Running a rescue is incredibly hard, especially when it is 100 percent volunteer run and dealing with such a high volume of cats. Despite this, the care and commitment they show is remarkable. It is very clear that they deeply care about the cats, and it shows in how well the animals are treated. Every cat I have fostered and every cat I have fostered or adopted from Community Concern for Cats has been extremely well cared for and truly loved. These cats are very lucky to have ended up with this organization, especially when so many other cats are euthanized simply due to lack of space or resources. Spay and neuter has unfortunately not fully become the norm in the San Francisco Bay Area, although it has improved over time. Organizations like Community Concern for Cats are essential in making spay and neuter a reality and saving lives. I cannot say enough about the sweet, dedicated volunteers who care so deeply about the cats and work tirelessly on their behalf. read more

After weeks of trying to contact the person fostering she finally got in touch and had completely changed the criteria for the kitty for adoptions. Never was even given a chance to meet the cat. Then tried to foster another kitty and was told we should go the Martinez shelter and adopt one. The lack of response, chaotic organization, and apparent reluctance to adopt out the cats without an FBI background check which we would have passed anyway led us to this less than flattering review. So grateful for this lovely company bringing new furever families together! CC4C came on my radar at the time of my previous kitty's passing, the lovely doctor I worked with made a donation in his name to this charity. I never forgot about them, I set up my Amazon Smile to benefit them, and I knew when and if the time was right, I would get my next little fur baby from them. For years I kept an eye on their website, just enjoying the sweet faces. And then finally one morning near the holidays in 2022, something in me said I should take a spin on their website, and I saw the sweetest face and most heartwrenching story of sweet little Lucca, a 3 year old tortie. And it was love at first sight. I ran into a couple challenges getting in contact with her foster, long story, but the CC4C team helped me so much and soon I was at their adoption event in Walnut Creek hanging out with my soon to be new kitty! The screening was very thorough, they definitely want new pet parents to take it seriously and provide a good and safe home. They even let me borrow a carrier to get her home safely that I could return the next day. And her lovely foster checked in with me a week or so in to make sure my new kitty and I were getting along and adjusting. Last November, I submitted an application to adopt a cat in foster care under CC4C. The foster mom (Tina) was so helpful. She asked me what qualities I was searching for and selected 6 kitties for me to meet at her home. When I arrived. she had them in large pet crates in a separate room, so I could take my time to visit with each one. She provided detailed descriptions and known information for each one. The third one I held (not the one I applied for) was the one that stole my heart immediately. She was so sweet and relaxed in my arms. After Tina completed the paperwork for me to sign, I took her home along with a bag of dry cat food provided by Tina. She was in perfect health and up to date with vaccines. We were looking to adopt after unexpectedly losing our last cat in early January. After looking at the available cats on the CC4C website and communicating via email with one of the volunteers, Marilyn, we decided to go to their Saturday Pop-Up Adoption in Walnut Creek. We were the first in-line to get in (they have reduced the number of people inside due to COVID, so we had to wait until the people fostering the cats had finished bringing in all the cats) and met with a volunteer who talked with us after reviewing our adoption form. She suggested that we look at Smash Mouth, an adorable 7-month-old female. Well, we fell in love with her immediately and after getting to know her a little more, decided she was going to be the newest member of the family. We've decided to rename her Matilda. The entire process, from arrival to heading home with our kitty, took a little over an hour and was very easy. The volunteers at CC4C were friendly and answered our questions. I also received a follow up call from Marilyn this week to check in and provide a little more background on our kitty. I can't say enough about how fantastic the people at CC4C were to work with. This wonderful organization helped me with an awesome cat who really needed a forever home. My daughter was unable to keep him because he needed a home with grown up people, and hers was full of littles. I tried everything to integrate him into my home with my resistant 11 year old male cat, but it just wasn't happening, and both cats were unhappy. Community Concern for Cats got Max in to see a vet with a complete check up. They helped us verify his chip, updated all his shots, and gave him a clean bill of health. I provided pictures and they set up an awesome online profile for him that really showed off his sweet and goofy personality. Their weekend adoption event was the perfect place for prospective new owners to meet Max. He met several people, but he chose his person a few weeks in. Numbers were exchanged all around so that everyone could feel comfortable about the transition, and assure support for Max's new person should they need it. ,I discovered Community Concern 4 Cats when four kittens were born in my back yard last spring. A friend suggested I contact Community Concern 4 Cats which I did immediately. The volunteer I spoke with was so helpful! I decided to foster the kittens until they were ready to be adopted. During that time, CC4Cs had them spayed and neutered, gave them the necessary shots and medications to be sure they would be healthy when adopted - all at no charge. They also coached me on how to socialize kittens to be sure they would make good pets when they adopted. When the kittens were ready for adoption, Judy, my CC4C volunteer arranged to have them featured on several websites which yielded wonderful adoptive parents. One of my favorite memories is of a 12-year old boy and his mom who adopted Pepper. As they were leaving with his new kitten, the boy said to his mom "This is the happiest day of my life!" Wow what an amazing set of Ladies Lea, Aubrey, Sue and Diana at the CC4C Martinez Pet Food Express. After finding 4 baby kittens who were EXTREMELY malnourished and infested with fleas, they jumped to action to help me with them. They were a shoulder when 2 didn't make it. The knowledge that they have is extremely valuable. I later discovered that there were over 15 neighborhood cats and kittens being fed by my neighbor who was so overwhelmed and did not know what to do with them all. (Neither did I ) Once again these ladies at CC4C showed up! Literally! They came over multiple times to help trap the cats, get them spade or neutered, find them homes, gave medical attention and most importantly stopped the vicious kitty cycle and now we are down to just 2 neighborhood cats! Unfortunately my neighbor passed away and I know how grateful and comforted he was to know that all the cats have found "furever" homes. My second cat came from this place. She is now the best companion for my first cat. The person who helped me was very responsive. She did everything super efficiently. Within a week I had my cat home. The staff made sure the cats go to proper homes. Very good sense of responsibility. If you are rejected, I think there are ways that can help with being accepted. The most important is to have your home cat-proofed - safe, a lot of higher space to hang out, no disturbing kids, etc. If you can show you are prepared and you care, you are ready to go. We adopted our sweet little Violet from Community Concern for Cats last year and the process was so smooth that we decided to go back and adopt another little guy recently named Finn. They are our two little angels and lucky to have them. Violet and Finn are two of the most sweetest well adjusted cats we could ever ask for. They were about 3 months old when we adopted them and came fully house trained. You could tell that they came from loving foster homes because they were ready to snuggle from the start and not to scared of us. Finn was fostered with bigger dogs, so he was not at all intimidated by Violet who is twice his size and only a few months older. He was a tiny little guy and is fearless yet sweet. They are the best of friends now. CC4C tries their best to keep the websites updated with the most recent kittens, but do several adoptions each weekend. I found that the best way to check on current adoptions is by checking their facebook page. They have great relationships with local vets and spay clinics, so we were able to get our cats fixed without additional costs and shots at very low prices. Both cats were also micro chipped for free. I would recommend going to CC4C to rescue your forever friend, it was a great experience. read more

***WARNING*** This is no longer a legitimate rescue. Their non-profit status has been revoked on May 15, 2021 by the IRS and no taxes have been filed or paid since 2017 tax year. This is my experience; In June/July 2021 Northgate Kennels handed over approx. a dozen cats and kittens to Gemma Boyd claiming that they were abandoned. At least one or more of these cats were not abandoned, the one was my service animal Gracie. She is a 17 year old fully trained cat that can sense when my blood sugar drops too low. And last year she detected a tumor in my arm that turned out to be cancer. To say that she is a godsend would be an under statement. When I discovered that she had been given to this rescue I immediately called Gemma. I figured being a rescue she would do the right thing and return her to me. But after leaving two messages she didn't return my call so I called the Sheriff and before taking a formal complaint the Deputy said he would call and speak to her or leave a message. She did not answer her phone or call the Deputy back, but she did call me. She said she was returning my call which I knew was a lie, she was only calling because she received a message from the Sheriff's Deputy. In my conversation she was rude, condescending and judgemental and refused to return my cat/service animal. When she realized that I to rescue, foster and train cats and have been doing so for more than 30 years, she offered to replace Gracie with another untrained cat. Gemma clearly is ignorant in regards to the bond service animals have with their owners and training it takes to be a service animal. Not every dog or cat has what it takes to be a service animal and Gemma clearly lacks the experience to make this determination. I declined the "replacement" cat and called the Sheriff Deputy. This issue still isn't resolved and I still do not have Gracie back with me. This is my Gracie. read more

I wanted to adopt a pair of kittens during COVID shelter in place, CC4C was the only place that seemed to be actively responding in a timely fashion. Angela provided a ton of help through the whole experience from answering (lots of) my questions over phone and email, filling out my application, arranging a visit, and everything else that had to happen before bringing my babies home. They were part of a number of cats at an adoption day and were listed on Petfinder. The kittens had a runny nose which we were advised would clear up and not pose a threat to the cat we have at home. We took them to our vet. One of the kittens was so sick he required antibiotics. He began to have difficulty walking. We took him to a specialist. Long story short: HE IS TERMINALLY ILL. My young family adopted two sweet kitten brothers from a foster through CC4C and we had the best experience. Communication was excellent and the kittens have quickly become inseparable with our baby and older dog. Renee was wonderful to work with and made the process of adopting easy. We just brought the boys in for their neutering surgeries, the cost of which was covered in their adoption fees, and they have recovered beautifully. My understanding is that many of the negative reviews here may be from those who were turned away from adoption during the application process. We've been a foster family for CC4C for the past 2-3 years, and also have donated money to help this organization. I've worked with several of the key volunteers, including Renee, Angela, Candace, and Virginia. They all care very much, and they are staying busy with things such as fostering, trapping, spaying and neutering. This whole organization is run by volunteers who only want the best for the cats. I'm sad to see a few negative reviews by people who don't understand that those at CC4C only want the best of the cats AND the adopters by making good, responsible matches (not every home is right for every cat), with the wellbeing of the cat as the most important element. Their hearts are all in the right place, so please be understanding and patient with these dedicated rescuers. I contacted this organization to help me trap 2 teen cats that are in need of medical attention. One is paralyzed from the hind legs, the other has an open wound to a leg. Susan from this organization contacted me today 9/20/22. While giving her information regarding the cats, she proceeded to tell me to go to tractor hardware supply, buy a cat trap and basically do it myself. She also began to belittle me asking me how old I am as if I wasn't capable of doing it myself. I ended up hanging up on her because I just don't have the energy to argue with stupid people. I took this call while I was at work and only had a few minutes to talk. I am a ER nurse and work long hours. I am very busy or yes, I would have done it myself.
