Avoid their VW service center at all costs! I cannot speak for the other brands, but the VW service center has been a nightmare. My family are loyal VW car owners. My Sister has one, my parents and my husband and I. I took my ID.4 in for a recall. When I picked it up, everything seemed fine. Then, I put my niece in the backseat for a ride and during our travels she went flying off the backseat!! Turned out, the service center removed the entire back seat to access a panel and never put it back in place. Imagine if this was something more serious like forgetting to put the brakes back on! We immediately called them to let them know so that they would be more careful to for the next customer's safety. The following month (July 2025) my dad scheduled an appointment for a recall on his ID.4. They told him it would be a whole day and they would call when it was ready. The whole day (Friday) passed - no call. We called on Saturday and got no response. They were closed on Sunday- leaving my parents with no vehicle all weekend! No explanation, no updates, no apologies! We called and asked to speak with a manager and transferred to the CEO's assistant. Left a voicemail and never heard back. It's been 2 weeks... This service center is not only inconsiderate, but could put your family's safety at risk. read more

I very rarely leave reviews, but I wouldn't recommend this location for service. I made an appt as a new customer for an oil change/inspection sticker. After nearly 2 hours waiting onsite, they told me they made a mistake with the sticker and had to redo it because a computer update erased the results. I was told it would be another :30 and agreed to stay as long as it didn't go past :45--I had to leave to pick up my kids. When I had to leave, they came back and told me they couldn't finish the inspection process because there were 3 customers ahead of me and I had to come back. They then tried to charge me for the rejection sticker and told me I wouldn't get in trouble with the sticker if I got pulled over after I asked. I came to this location because my family and I are leaving for a road trip across several states tomorrow. Not only did I not get what I came for, but I spent my morning in their waiting room as they deprioritized my appointment due to their own error. After expressing my unhappiness with the service, the associate went to help another customer right next to me and proceeded to laugh together about the interaction. It was so unprofessional and just gross for a VW-affiliated establishment to treat their customers that way--nonetheless a brand new one. I will never be returning to this location. read more

We brought it in for work two years ago and told them upfront if it needed a transmission to not fix it. Car was in for almost a month. I have purchased 4 new cars from Commonwealth motors.This last one is a VW Tiguan 2022. I have had it in for service because it smokes blue smoke they say it normal for new cars. Its a thinner oil. The past couple of months the check engine light cames on, can't just take it down they say you need an appointment.so you wait for a week and a half for the appointment.for them to look at it for 45 mins. For them to tell you that it is reset and if it comes on again to call them to make another appointment. Because the cylinder head will need to be removed and cleaned. Well it came on again made another appointment to wait another week and a half. Bob comes out to tell me that they reset it and they are going to have to schedule an appointment to remove the cylinder head to clean it. Are you kidding me !!! Bob tells me this is common on the Tiguans. So I asked why wasn't it done while I am here ?he tells me it takes 4 to 5 days per car to do this and their are 3 cars ahead of you. So I'm looking at 3 weeks. I leave and two days later my check engine light is on again. But I'm being patient and I wait three weeks and one day. No call!!! so I called them today to see if we can make an appointment and he tells That there's 3 cars ahead of me. So In my mind I'm thinking three cars three weeks ago and now three more cars. So I asked can we just make an appointment? Bob tells me that he's not sure when they will be done and that I will have to wait for a phone call!!!! I asked him if he had a rough idea of when he thinks he would be calling me he started to get an attitude and said LIKE I SAID IM NOT SURE WHEN THE CARS AHEAD IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE DONE!!! RUDE ( I have my work schedule two to three weeks out with my job so I just wanted a rough idea so I can try to plan and keep some days open on my end. I said if your to busy should I take it to another dealership where its the check engine light? He said GO AHEAD THEIR JUST GOING TO HAVE TO DO THE SAME DIAGNOSTIC. I said ok you don't have to be rude,don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. He then says WELL I DONT KNOW HOW ELSE TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU! I was just trying to get a rough idea like 3 months? 8 years? after the warranty runs out??? Then he tells me a month and a half. All he had to say was probably another 6 weeks I would have been fine. I have been very patient with them and to have to deal with Bob from Volkswagen service treating people like that what a shame. I guarantee you, I will not buy another car from this company I guarantee you my friends that have also bought three cars from them because of me bringing them in to buy there. It will be the last time. 7 cars total from 2012 to 2022. Not no more. He should not be talking to people. He has no customer service skills. I have been in retail and customer service for over 30 years so I know what it takes to deal with people so I personally try to be polite and patient as possible but this person take's the cake. I bought a used golf at a mom/pop shop. I had problems right from the get go with car that thankfully were covered under VW factory warranty so I took to Commonwealth. Right off the bat they do a 31point inspection and they found I had a oil leak that they fixed. They also found the issue wrong with the car and replaced a part but the car was still indicating a check engine light they couldn't diagnose. They got me a rental and dwelved deeper into the car (took 4 days). They found multiple coding issues and fixed. Car runs great and no more check engine lights. I've been a commonwealth customer for almost 20 years and this is my 1st VW experience and I'm still pleased with the experience. read more

This is the closest dealer to where I live but they seem to be the most difficult to schedule service with. In the past I've been told I need an appointment for service for minor repairs or maintenance. Today I had an issue with my sunroof that prevented it from closing so I drove to Commonwealth in an effort to at least get it closed and wait for parts to come in. Upon pulling up, the young man who greeted me was very polite. He consulted with his manager and returned to tell me that my car couldn't be serviced today. I sent over the paperwork to Mike two days ago. Mike just as I was speaking with him decided to send this erroneous message that he's waiting for paperwork that he already has! Mike decided that the dealership won't acknowledge the fact that the parts manager touched the car and should not have touched the car. The parts manager messed around with the fuses and as indicated in the previous response form the "Parts Guy" he admits he dropped fuses and that the radio was not working after they were touched. He admits it! Thus why would he not admit that it is very interesting that the horn did not work after he touched it! The fuses to the horn were blown and other work was done. I can acknowledge that perhaps some of the work done on the horn was not related. However there was half of the problem at least was because the horn fuses were blown and messed around with! As we learn in elementary school -- take responsibility for your actions. It is a value that is learned in childhood that Mike and Commonwealth clearly has lost this important value. The dealership ie parts guy touched my car, admits to playing around with the fuses, and admits that the radio was not work and that the he dropped fuses. I tried to call Commonwealth and left voice mail messages for the general manager, service manager, sales manager, business office, and told those who are operators who important it is that I speak with someone. Perhaps the operator should have taken my seriously! This is why I did not bring the car to Commonwealth. I would not drive on 495 North before Thanksgiving without a horn. And if no one is going to get back with me I was forced to go to a local mechanic. I expect Commonwealth to take responsibility for their actions. I called VW Customer Care for help and they were very nice on the phone and did their best. Certainly this dealership does not care about complaints from customers even when they complain to Customer Care. Instead they just want to try to send messages on the BBB that they don't have paperwork that they do have days a go! I also requested a meeting with the General Manager from Commonwealth Motors. I am requesting a meeting in person with the General Manager and owner to discuss this and to request that the parts manager agree to taking full responsibility that he should not have touched the fuses. I expect an formal written apology, and I expect some compensation for the headache, nightmare, bad customer service, not getting back with me to the point that I had to go to VW Customer Care and BBB for a response. When I got a call finally from Mike the service manager (although expected a call from the General Manager to make an in person meeting) he was upset that I had called the BBB and VW Customer Care and made an excuse that he never hear of this before! That is not true--- listen to your voice mails. Businesses and Customers should be civil, courteous and polite in their responses to complaints. It is important to remain professional and productive when participating in the BBB complaint process. read more

This place sucks. Makes me never want to buy/lease a car again. Went in with my wife to lease an Atlas and agreed on a price with the agent (which was higher than I wanted, but we needed a car and there was a shortage of inventory, whatever). The sales agent was nice enough, but this place is just so poorly managed. The Commonwealth Volkswagen dealership didn't have a finance specialist on duty because of a death in the family, which is fine, but it didn't seem like they had any backup plan should a finance specialist not show up for work. We were bounced around their Volkswagen, Honda, Kia and Nissan dealerships until we could find someone who could process our lease agreement. Then, a day later when I called my insurance company to add the new car to my insurance, Commonwealth had issues with receiving the documents sent to them by my insurer needed to get the car ready for pickup. Commonwealth emailed my insurance company a letter with fax and email info that apparently is not used. When we called Commonwealth to figure out the disconnect, they told us to tell my insurance company to send the documents to another fax number. Of course, that didn't work either because nothing works at Commonwealth. Finally we got fed up and told our sales agent at Commonwealth to call our insurance company himself and get the documents, which he finally did. Why they didn't just do this in the first place after we told them we had added the car to our policy, I have no idea. Again, poorly managed. I bought my new '13 GTI here in March, and it was a surprisingly pleasant, hassle-free experience, even though I dislike negotiating and always dread the experience of buying a new car. I first asked for a price quote over the Commonwealth website, and not only did they give me a quote immediately, but it was a very competitive price. Most other Boston-area VW dealers I contacted refused to give you a quote online, and just play games with you by saying the "best quote" will be when you walk onto their lot. I went to visit Wellesley VW first because it was nearby and got good reviews, but they refused to meet Commonwealth's price, and the salespeople weren't particularly friendly. Josh Palmieri was my salesman-- definitely try to get him if you can. He was chill, patient, and never tried to pressure me. I also like how he mostly stayed quiet during the test drive instead of trying to talk my ear off about features of the car that I already knew about. I also like how I went to sign the final papers, the folks in the backroom didn't pressure me to buy warranty extras or paint protection or whatnot. Ok, so after letting it all sink in over 2 months I decided to up the stars. Well, they did decide to make things right after putting up a fight. The thing is, they wanted me to pay for new window tint because I was sold a car with "illegally dark" tint. Best thing yet is every car I have seen has darker tint than mine. Anyways, they wanted me to pay for it as if it were my fault. Finally a manager jumped in and agreed that I shouldn't have to pay, because it was a feature of the car that I was buying. They also have been constantly emailing and calling me. In every message they tell customers to let them know if something is unsatisfactory, so I did just that. Many times and no one ever bothered to call me back, not even one of the owners who even called to "make sure everything went as smooth as possible and welcome to our family." I've also responded to their emails and no one writes back. In all, the experience was meh, the car and other inventory they have is awesome though! The people are fairly nice, but if there is one thing they lack, its follow up skills. They seem to try very hard to be customer service oriented, but they lack actual customer service skills. Talk to us like humans and not like a marketing pitch. They also sent a delicious box of cookies as a thank you for buying my car, which I still loooove. read more

Great service and trustworthy service advisers. I have been using this dealer for the maintenance of my 2006 Passat (2 years). The hourly rate is identical to the regular garage down the street. For the same price I am getting factory trained technicians and warranty. I have always dealt with Mark Defrancesco. He is very honest and explains all the suggested repairs. I really like that he understands that it is a 10 year old car and never tries to push me to do unneeded repairs. Always gives me a great price as well. I had a tremendous experience at Commonwealth VW! I had seen some videos online from a former coworker who had recently begun working at Commonwealth. We did not work together long, but he was amazing with customers during that time and I knew him to be passionate and customer focused. I contacted Michael and he invited me in to discuss some of the cars on my mind. He seemed to know exactly which model would fit in my budget, meet my needs, and make me most happy to drive. He showed me a few cars on the lot I was interested in, but he recommended the darker grey VW Tiguan. He had me sit down to test out the front and back seats. He showed me the trunk space and some other features. After the test drive, I knew Michael was right. This was the car! I had a pretty painless experience negotiating. Michael had my car appraised and brought what I was looking to spend to the sales manager, Mark. Mark came back with a fair offer, which I countered only to ask for a bit more on the trade in order to avoid negative equity. We had a deal in a brand new 3 year lease! I finished paperwork with Marshall (I believe - his middle name is Ralph!), who was filling in from Nissan. He helped me select the right care package for my needs, not overselling features that didn't fit. I picked up my brand new car today and I am thrilled! In the past 3 months, I've had a handful of experiences with the service department @ Commonwealth Volkswagen and have been, for the most part, thoroughly impressed. My first experience was for a routine service - scheduling was very easy and convenient, and the end result was an oil change and a serviced car. No complaints, and I'm much happier having my car serviced by VW certified technicians than a random mom & pop shop. Worth the money in my opinion. My second experience was less than satisfactory, but that was with the parts department. I needed a spare key to have an auto-starter installed. I was assured that the valet key would be sufficient and included a chip as it was tied to my VIN #. Long story short, the valet key is useless for anything other than manually unlocking the door and is just an $80 piece of plastic. They would not refund me because it's a custom order/vehicle specific. I'm not happy with their specific customer service or lack of knowledge in what they sell. My third & fourth experiences were back with the service department, and spectacular. My coolant light had come on in my car, and I was afraid I had a leak. They saw me within in hour and did some quick, verbal troubleshooting. It was agreed that there might not be a leak, so they topped my fluids off and told me to keep an eye on it. When the light came back on a couple weeks later, it was determined that I did have a leak and scheduled an appointment to bring it in the next day to run some actual diagnostics. After discovering a leaking water pump and agreeing to a price for the job, I had the work performed. Again, can't beat the VW certified techs & warranty. When the job was completed I got a great call from Chris letting me know he did some above and beyond research, and found a little known extended warranty on the Touareg's and this was covered. All in all, I've had fantastic experiences with the service department, and will continue to bring my car there for anything that comes up. after looking around for a Passat SE with Tech, I went to Commonwealth as they said they would meet or beat other prices. First, the pricing did not even meet that of Wellesley or Colonial VW and then they low balled my trade saying it was in an accident, even though there was a clean CarFax and it was a Cert Pre-owned. Needless to say, after wasting two hours, I left without a deal. I went to Colonial in Medford where they gave me an extra % $1500 on my trade and got me where I needed to be and all within one hour. read more

Hind sight 20/20...I should have read the reviews before going in... My experience with the service department has been similar to several I've read here. My wife an I traded a Honda Accord for two new 2014 Jetta. Hers is running OK for now, mine has had some problems. Before the two week check up the driver's seat squeaked every time you move, even putting your foot on the brake would make the seat squeak. When we drove in for the check up, I mentioned this to whoever took the keys from me and they said they would look into it. After about a 1/2 hour they came to get us on the waiting room. When I asked if they had fixed it, the guy checking us out had supposedly no clue what I was talking about. He said that a squeaky seat could be anything and that they would have to keep the car for a day, so I made an appointment for the upcoming Saturday to drop it off. At the end of the day they called, they could not replicate the problem. I picked up the car and as soon as I sat down on the seat it squeaked. I left the dealership figuring I would just live with the noise - it wasn't that aggravating and I could always just turn up the radio. A couple of days later, a hammering sound came from behind the dash, I called and they gave me an appointment for the following Tuesday (almost a week later). When I dropped it off, I asked to speak with the manager (Mark). Him and I went for a drive so he could hear the noises, both from the dash and from the seat. He said he heard them and they would take care of it, it would be a couple of days. At this point the car had 650 miles on it. Mark called me the next day and said they had identified the dash noise and they had ordered the replacement part, the technician apparently could not replicate the noise. He asked me if it was sporadic and I said no, it happens any time, day or night, cool or hot. So he said they would take care of the dash and he would work with the technician on the seat noise. Never heard from them again. I went to speak to the dealership about the issue and they said they were still working on it. After some arguing over my disappointment with the vehicle and asking about lemon laws, their answer was, you bought the car, it's your problem not ours. Before I left, they put me on a rental (that they are paying for supposedly) and made me drive the technician around to make him hear the noise, the salesperson that sold me the car came on the ride, both said they heard the noise - the technician even said they had a similar problem with earlier year Jetta and he knew what the problem was. I hear nothing from them again for another week and a half. They called me on a Saturday morning saying they can't fix the car, come pick it up. I refused and demanded that they fix it or give me a new one and said they could call me again on Monday since I was leaving town for the weekend. Monday morning I get a call from Mark, threatening me and saying that I had to come pick up the car and drop off the rental or I would have to pay for the rental myself. When I asked if my car had been fixed, he said nobody could hear the noise. When I pointed out that he himself, the technician, and the salesperson had heard the noise, he apologized for being rude and said he would talk to the technician. That same day I called VW headquarters and told them my story, they assigned the regional case manager to my case and he called me the next day. He informed me that he had spoken to Mark and Mark had said that nobody could hear the noise. So far the regional case manager has been of no help. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else for servicing your car and buying your car for that matter... read more

This week picking up our pre certified 2009 VW rabbit paying in full trusting that the dealer will live up to their agreement. they seem VERY disorganized. Also earlier today i bring in the car to pick up the registration and to have them do the inspection sticker. The VW service passed the car and put a sticker in the windshield and tells me the tint in the windows is too dark and i have to have it changed. i go back to sales and tell them of the situation and they tell me the car they just sold us they have to either remove the sticker or remove the window tint. I said to the sales person i assume you are going to fix this. He smugly replied to me that if i want to keep the tint i can try having it inspected somewhere else but that he is not willing to jeopardize the dealerships license to do state inspection stickers. If the dealer sells a car with windows tinted darker than what meets state regulation this should of been corrected prior to point of sale. Now 3 hours of my time had been wasted with no apology from the dealership... Did i mention we PAID FOR THE CAR IN FULL? They sales person also refused to tell the service inspection to put a rejection sticker in the windshield. So I let them remove the inspection sticker. There is still back ordered paint that had been promised. there is a crack in the grill in the front bumper this was noticed today also considering the car was viewed in the evening and picked up in the evening i did not notice this until the 2nd time it was driven. When you buy a car in MA you expect to have it in ready to pass inspection....if not what do you do? Return it perhaps... we will see what tomorrow brings! Shopping for a TDI Touareg. Saw one this morning on Car Gurus a 2014 Luxury Package with 19" wheels and it was World Auto Certified for $33,500. So I sent in an inquiry to verify all of the info. I got a response from Ashely, stating the car is still in the "process", but available and yes it is a Luxury Package. I responded and ask for a copy of the original sticker form the car, she sent it and just as I suspected, too good to be true. It was actually a Sport model with Navi and 18" wheels. Also, it is not Certified as advertised. I sent a message to the President Charlie Daher, no response. Ashely did tell me they were going in to correct the errors. I just checked, all the info is still wrong but they raised the price to $35.999 for a car with less equipment and not Certified! I think I'll do business somewhere else. read more

I am unsure why Commonwealth would say "shop us last" I shopped with them first and felt absolutely no need to go anywhere else. From my initial contact with Marshall to make an appointment to the service that I had at the dealership with Mark and Edwin I was beyond impressed. The entire team is polite and friendly- in my opinion true professionals. The guys went above and beyond to find the color Jetta that I wanted and I pick up my car in just a few short days. So I went in to buy a Jetta for my son. We had a great experience with Jeff and quickly arrived at a price. But then their incredible complexity of trying to buy the car starts. They epitomize why everyone hates going into a dealership. Back and forth getting the paperwork. Duplication. Specific visit to sign where we thought we were getting the car - nope - they need few more days etc. Apparently they haven't heard of Covid or seen their competitors are literally dropping off cars to their new owners having never been to the dealership. Way too complicated and elsewhere is infinitely easier. Latest is I'm having to chase them to get the deposit back. 6/24 - told people were on vacation but will take care of it. 6/29 manager back and processing it that day. July 8 still nothing. . I contacted the attorney general to try and help me as well. Overall seem like good people but think it's car buying circa 1982. Go elsewhere. read more
