I've…read morealways been fascinated by how this city's neighborhoods, streets, and transit developed; this park is an excellent reminder of days gone by. it's a simple park (just grass, trees, and a few benches), but named after a complex and interesting man. a New York City local boy who was, at various points in his life, a media mogul, a magician, a World War One artillery sergeant, a politician, and an important member of Queens' American Legion community. when I walked by last week, saw a few people sitting there, drinking coffee, reading the paper, just relaxing. it seems well maintained, though that could also be due to its location. a nice break from - and yet right in the middle of - the hustle and bustle of city life. posts with horse-heads on top, clutching rings in their mouths, appear all around the perimeter of this Triangle. Trotting Course Lane, as it turns out, dates back to the days of horse and carriage; it was eventually straightened and made into Woodhaven Boulevard for those magnificent men in their driving machines, but a remnant of the original Lane itself is still there as a residential street intersecting Woodhaven. sidenote: I spent a good ten minutes hunting down the information necessary for this review, methodically going through Google Maps, Forgotten NY, the NYC Parks Department, and FourSquare. technology is wonderful, ainnit?

My friend lived in the corner house off the Woodhaven side and many a hot summer night we would spill out onto the Triangle for a reprieve from the indoors. As I drive by now and peer over for a quick glance its great to see the upkeep continuing and improvments being made for the next group to enjoy. Although not a park for young children nor dogs as there is too many cars in constant motion on two sides, it sure is a nice late evening and/or early morning destination before the traffic brings the noise pollution.

I saw the sign from the sidewalk and walked down the alley to the center's entrance and climbed down its steps. As I entered, I felt like I was walking to a great secret space in New York City. And I did. :-) I found the space to be great for this event and the many programs they do. The space seems to be like 600-700 square feet. There's a large main room, a few office spaces, and a restroom. The space was super clean, and everything seemed new, even the doors and paint (the strange things that a New Yorker notices). During the event, I met the board members and some of the staff. I found them to be approachable and super friendly. They told me about their various programs. They offer tutoring and SAT help, community advocacy.

They have their collections of books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and other media available for perusal and loan. There is even a large children's section that I used to bring my son to when he was younger, with lots of tables for reading and homework. The current pandemic lockdown has changed all that and all public spaces have had to adjust their practices accordingly. I am glad that Queens Library has made their collections available again via their website. You can search their vast catalog for any of their materials from any branch, put in a request and it will be delivered to your local branch for pick-up. When you arrive, make sure you're wearing your mask, check in with the security guard and you can then go to your designated cart to find your marked books or media. Checkout is a snap at the self-service desk by placing your library card on the scanner pad and then your materials. I really like the convenience of designated library parking spots out front. And when you are finished with your borrowed materials, the walk-up self-service automated return kiosk makes it even easier than picking them up. But if you really want to avoid human contact and stay buttoned up in your house, ebooks are also available through their website.

This library helped me not go crazy as a kid because I was the child of immigrants who struggled financially as well as not knowing navigating the USA. My 3rd grade friend informed me of free libarary because she was an avid reader. I still remember we had a book worm in class and she surpassed everyone with her love of reading. I was in second. I finally walked in today to check out since the library's renovation - haven't been back since high school when my parents moved us out of Elmhurst and it was BEAUTIFUL! I was amazed how modern, bright, airy and just so peaceful with lots of seats as well as plenty of people doing work/reading. Definitely will be back.

Took the books into the Children's Meeting area where there were many empty tables and chairs, so I sat down to go through the materials. A class had just finished. Parents had started to leave with their kids. A staff member asked the librarian, who is that person in the blue shirt. She came over and asked me where my kid was. I said I do not have a child with me. She said I can not sit here. I asked her where do I go? She said you have to go to the adult section. I was going to leave the books on the table. Staff goes it's a library take the books with and after you finish leave it on the table. Went down to the second floor it said Teen section- Confused was I not suppose to be there too. Had no teenager with me. There were tables at the media area. Sat there reviewed all the materials. Took books back to third floor and placed books outside of the Children's area. Where is the adult area? First floor? I see computers and people of all ages there. I did not see a sign. This is a very small library. People sitting on benches by elevator. Only three floors on this site. Had been here one time just to get catalog of activities at this library for family member. Tried to take pictures to post with review. Staff said you are not allowed to take pictures. Some of the staff is very abrupt and not the friendliest. Will I be back? Probably not. I am use to going to the libraries in Manhattan for they are bigger and staff are much more welcoming.

Recently, I had to go to get my FIFA passport book stamped. If you don't know, the library has joined in on the FIFA fun & they have passports where you go around the 5 boroughs collecting stamps. There's 12 stamps in all & I only have 4 of them so far. I work too much. Anyway, I went to the central library to get 1 stamp they have the cute soccer ball on top of the subway train. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the kids section had a different stamp. I was able to collect 2 stamps in 1 location and they were so nice about it.

He took his time to help me search for the book I was interested in, and he also escorted me to the bookshelves to find it. He answered all my inquiries and explained that a fashion show was about to start. I would have been in a rush to leave during this visit, but because the librarian was so helpful, I decided to stay for the evening event. I was able to use the self-checkout kiosk, and it was very easy to follow the instructions on the touchscreen. I observed a spectacular fashion show and had the opportunity to meet some amazing people. The upper eastside facility has a fitness center, swimming pool and a variety of classes (salsa dancing, guitar lessons, tech instruction.) Some classes reflect the large community of Asian seniors including English communication skills for Mandarin speakers. But there's also advanced beginner German! Unlike Saint Peters, this center operates seven days a week. They also offer three meals a day for a voluntary contribution of $1 for breakfast, and $1.50 for lunch and dinner. The fitness center borders on adequate -- a small room with some malfunctioning equipment, and not much of it. (I look at this as an alternative to Planet Fitness whose NYC locations pale in comparison to my Planet Fitness in Ardmore, PA -- but maybe not.) When you enroll, you can participate in programs at all Lenox Hill locations. (Besides St. Peters Church, I believe there's a center in the Village.) I'm a newbie to all this -- new-ish to town, but well over sixty! -- and from what I can tell, the staff and folks who participate are friendly and come from all walks of life.
