I walked in here looking to sell some clothes and all the staff I interacted with were rude, especially the older lady actually purchasing the clothes. I don't think I did or said anything that deserved such treatment from her. The entire time we spoke her lips were pursed and she was cold and short with any questions I had. I asked for my clothes back that they were going to purchase and dropped then off at value village out of spite. The 30$ they were going to give me was not worth being treated that way. Won't come back here again. Thought the blonde chick behind the counter was just having a bad day or had something wrong with her, so I ignored her devastatingly pursed lips and attitude towards me for no apparent reason, but turns out after reading the reviews that she's just normally like that. Yikes. Worst encounter I've had with another person really... she picked out one item from my full bag and attempted to give me $6 cash for a brand new item I've never worn once, just took it back as I'd probably get at least 3x as much selling online. I want to like Common Sort so badly but the staff ruin it every time. They are extremely rude when it comes to buying, making the seller feel shitty and like they're an inconvenience. They also have this "I'm so much better than you" attitude. It's so unnecessary and definitely not how retail associates should ask. I just went into the common sort store on Quessn east and was very disappointment while I think the store has some cute items i came in do do a trade. when i walked in i was not greeted right away and was not greeted with a warm friendly hello as the first time i went into the store. the girl working was very rude and didn't seem like she wanted me in the store . she did not look at my items and without looking she decided she would not be purchasing any of my items which i think are suitable for the store based on what they have in the store. this was so disappointing. i was so exicted to purchase some new pieces but after this experience i will never go back to this sotre. she didn't even give me a chance from the moment i walked in the store she had already decided i was not a fit for the store or atleast this is how she made me feel. :( read more

I read a few of the reviews before I decided to post. This place takes the time out of the treasure hunt, and most of us don't have much, so I think pricing up a bit to save us some is fine. Being that I swap stuff frequently, I disagree that turnover is low; the new stuff just gets sold first. I appreciate that, rather than investing in ambiance, this shop keeps prices fair. I don't shop second hand when I need something to wear tonight. I don't bring a list, and I expect eclectic, even among the personalities. The team are real people, who have bad days too, and this keeps time with the unpretentious vibe I have come to enjoy at both the Common Sort locations. In addition, I have gabbed with the proprietor about her photography, which is both on the site and in the store. Her employees moonlight as the models. I really like what this says about the business. Before I discovered Common Sort, Kind Exchange was my first stop. They have high volume, but little quality. It was only a shade more rewarding than thrift shopping, and most of their resale is in H&M (for example). I would shop at malls if I sought items this common. In addition, what they offered in trade was an insult, and I found some items they "rejected" (which I "donated") for sale a few weeks later, on the main floor: not cool. When consigning items, you place a lot of trust in strangers. Your Mom wouldn't like it. I consigned twice before I discovered swapping. In the first instance, my most expensive item was mysteriously shoplifted (a Valentino suit they'd priced at 700), and too bad for me. In the second instance an item was damaged on the floor; the owner called me "honey," and insinuated it came in that way. I much prefer the cash in hand approach to the stress and bitterness. There are a few neat shops with similar offerings, but I am thirty-something, and my interests are not those of downtown core consumers. The staff at Common Sort seem to have similar priorities to mine, and are aware of what's relevantly going on nearby. I don't go out much, and I don't spend much, so when I do it is about more than goods acquisition. read more

Queen West location. Honestly, the staff here are unhelpful, clueless and pretentious af. They always act like you're interrupting their day, no matter if you're buying or trading. Especially if you're trading. I don't know who hires them. I came in to buy something and inquire about a trade and THREE girls at the cash couldn't serve me. Two completely ignored me and the third just walked by and said that she needs to do something else right now. I've been shopping there for five years and it's getting worse and worse. Prices are ok but the merch has gotten really worn and old-looking. There used to be lots of nice stuff at reasonable prices, now it looks like Salvation Army down the street. read more

To me this is the best of all the locations. I've been to all of them. There's a great selection in an array of sizes. The staff are less snobby then at other locations. They actually try very hard to help you find something. The racks are also meticulously organized. It's not overwhelming to browse. read more

I JUST FELT SOMEWHAT COMPELLed. ( sorry, just noticed caps) to write a response to perhaps afford an anawer to the post as it related to not taking $ 200.00 boots etc. First, as one who enjoys fashion to the maxxxxx !! and, that said, has amassed a rather large and varying array of fashion, I offer up a reply as it relates to that aspect, then, from a business of any nature or commodity situation, as I see it and from "my prospective" . FIRST: FASHION - We all have a living spaces. Most, I am sure include the neceassaties of life, ( furniture, fridge/stove etc.). That said, space can then become a determing issue. Space for one who enjoys fashion, like myself and space for those who sell it, ( or again, any other commodity). With the trends in fashion, although perdicatble to some degree as it relates, for example, to the basics, ( I.E.- the little black dress), accesorizing it, is what may make the, BASIC "little black dress" and individuals own signature piece. Allowing a business to have the space to keep "the basics", which the general buying public is seeking, and may be looking for there, as well as everywher else, remembering this is a basic) store space also still has to be allocated to carry the "accessory niche"). From your post profile name, and although I may in fact be totally incorrect, and I do apoligize should I be, incorrect, I will bodly make the "assumptiom / presumption", that you perhaps are female. That said, and again looking at your posting, ( as it relates to "myself and fashion") ,( I have been photographed many times at various locations and venes simply for my fashion choices), I see that you refer to $200.00 boots. Unless they , In my opinion, were very specific type boot that a very specific type fashion savvey woman buyer was looking for, I feel just the product itself, is "self limiting", as it relates to the stores prospective for resale. It would have to be the very unique type boot, $ 200.00, or $ 2000.00, that I feel a woman would purchase to wear to the office with her skirt or dress, (pencil or not)! Having been with my wife for 19 years, ( she very involved in fashion design), feel that should I being the one seeking to purchase a "STAND OUT" fashion style for myself, I would consider my first and primary space, stores of this nature. Remembering of course, the basics could be found elsewhere, being the "fashion rave". as it is often said in real estate: LOCATION!!! LOCATION!!! LOCATION!!! The salesgirl/cashier was friendly and helpful and I found most of their items to be decently priced. I did however find some nice shoes which I shockingly found out cost $55, which seemed a tad high for second hand and I ultimately did not buy them. Their selection of clothes is small, but they're undoubtedly selected with more care than say, Value Village. I haven't found any clothes the few times I've been here but on my last venture I did find a nice polyblend tie, pretty cheap too-- just ten bucks! I'd say that their women's selection is far better than their men's . They carry the usual vintage/thrift store/hipster dresses/women's clothing. common sort has a pretty cool deal going on where you can trade your clothes in for credit. how it works is that i bring in clothes, the owner prices them for what she would sell them, and gives you half that amount in credit to apply towards the purchase of other clothes in the store or if you dont want to buy anything you get 25% of that deemed price in cash. you can also do a combination of the above, as in get 50% credit from one garment to apply towards another and trade in others just for cash etc. now i dont know if this is a good deal or not money-wise, because ive never tried this before, here or anywhere else, but the prices are good enough that it is likely as good as it sounds. ( i saw a few suit jackets/blazers for about 20 bucks). its good to know that its there though; whether youll be happy with the price she sets your clothes at is a different story. i will definitely come back here for some shirt choices, as there was quite a selection of some cool designs. i wasnt that impressed with the mens pants selection as there wasnt that many from which to choose and they seemed very much like each other. there was quite a large shoe collection for women with some nice unique choices. read more
