i took a four-week beginner's wheel-throwing class, attended a private birthday party for wheel-throwing, and did a hand building class at common ground pottery and every experience has been all different, but all consistent in terms of how much fun it was and how great the instructors were! colton was the instructor for the four-week class + hand building class and was always patient and helpful, while g was the instructor for my friend's private party and was such a vibe and super nice and also patient (esp. with a room full of beginners at a party). the studio is so cute and well-decorated and welcoming. there are so many different options for classes depending on your interests and themed hand building classes (i took the sanrio/hello kitty mug workshop)! great for beginners and i appreciate all of the options that there are to get started or find something that you're interested in. read more

I had taken an 8 week pottery class at another location a decade ago. I got that creative urge to tak another and chose the intermediate class at Common Ground Pottery. Little did I know I was WAY out of practice and not really up to intermediate level. That didn't stop me though. I pushed through the stuggle and came away with 3 respectable pieces. That is due in large part to instructor Colin. I wasn't always able to follow what he was doing but he was patient with me and showed me close up what to do. I still wasn't able to pull the exact shapes I was envisioning in my head but I am happy overall with what I was able to make. I was actually worried about one piece and even went back to the studio to have them toss it. I had gouged the side and patched it back together. I was afraid it would blow apart in the kiln. But I was assured it would be ok. And guess what? It was! Of my three pieces, the large bowl I made as a fruit bowl is my favorite. This is followed by a flower vase. My least favorite, a bottle, is the one I was worried about blowing up. I botched the top a bit but I made the best of it. I hid the top by turning the piece into a table lamp. And now I like it just fine. Some small regrets I have are that I wasn't really able to finish the pieces. I trimmed the vase and the bowl. I wasn't able to trim the bottle since it was made on the last day of the class. I also did not get to glaze these for myself. But Colin took down my glaze choices and that was done for me. And they came out beautiful. The vase and the bottle, similar shapes, were done in a denim blue. The bowl was supposed to be green but came out a little more aqua with some iridescence. Looks nice but not as dark as I was imagining. I don't know that I'm ready to jump back in to pottery again but I do still have some other ideas. I keep thinking I want to try hand building since I've twice done wheel throwing. I'll be sure to keep Common Ground in mind for that and see what they have to offer. read more

Super fun wheel throwing class!! It was my first time trying wheel throwing. At first it was a little hard but I got the hang of it later. The instructors G and Jahson were so nice and super friendly!! We had so much fun experimenting with different shapes and ideas we wanted to create. I loved how super informative our instructor was demoing how to wheel throw and she helped whenever I was stuck. I can't wait to try it again soon! read more

*Hello Kitty Mug Workshop* on 03.07.2026 at COMMON GROUND POTTERY in Henderson! I booked the class as soon as it popped up on my Instagram feed! Of course my algorithm knows I love Hello Kitty, but then again, who doesn't!? It was a 2-hour class which was mainly to create a masterpiece of your own creativity! Lol. I laugh because in my head I envisioned my design looking just like the advertisement, but I tried my best and still had fun! I even went on a solo date and sat at a table with other first-timers who were also there by themselves. It was easy to start convos with each other, especially when it came to questions. The mug base was already pre-made, we just had to select from the dozens on display. Grab it with caution since it's still wet. You're then mainly working on the design. Thank goodness for the two hours, because it was just the right amount of time! I chose to use a stamp, just like a cookie cutter, but you can also select a stencil to work from. The instructors were super kind, informative, and friendly!! For the first few minutes they introduced us to the various tools, processes, and designs available. You'll also need to decide if you're going to return to paint later (extra cost) or just the one color and glaze already included as part of the workshop. The drying period is 10-14 days, so I think it's about 4-6 weeks before you get to pick up your final product. The studio buzzed with excitement! There were two different classes going on at the same time, but the noise level didn't distract. There were also examples from previous workshops so you can get a better idea of what the possibilities are! I can't wait to return to finish my project, and to book future workshops!! Thank you to all staff for your awesomeness! Some of their work is on display and for sale in the merch corner! read more

OMG!!!! Soooo fun!!!! We did the 1pm Saturday morning Intro to wheel throwing Class. I've thought about trying to make pottery for a while but I didn't know what to expect, I really wanted to get hands on and that's exactly what we did! The shop is sooo cute!! Vibrant and full of life. G and Alpha were our instructors- they were so great!!!! Great instructions. I was just too scared to make a mess. Go in there and really get into it. I had no idea we would be able to play around and make as many pieces as we wanted in the 2 hours. 1 item is included with your class. You can make many more, you either purchase the others for $10 each or they'll simple recycle your art. So don't be afraid to have some fun with it. I wish I would have came with more ideas so look around online for inspiration before coming in! It was so fun tho! Great Saturday morning activity to get the day started! Can't wait to go back!!! read more

I did the matcha bowl workshop here and had a fantastic time! Our instructor (wish I could remember her name) was great! She was so thorough, helpful, and anticipated the needs of all students in the class. I had such a fun time and will definitely be coming back for more classes and potentially a membership. I hope Common Ground finds their way to downtown Vegas and opens another location! Still worth the drive tho read more

One of the few pottery places here in vegas that opened but I think they have some kinks to workout being fairly new. Went to one of their holiday mug workshops. First off there is not much if not any info of what to expect. Just that it was 2 hours and to wear clothes you dont mind getting dirty. The shop is very cute and decorated nicely. There was a separate room for wheel throwing then the main room. They were still setting up on arrival. There really was no welcome/intro and what to expect. Then lack of overall directions. The various mugs were premade and the handles. A few folks thought they would actually mold the mugs. I knew based off the time allotted that was not going to happen. I preferred this way especially because I know how time consuming that is plus most people have very little ceramic experience but I can see why others may have expected that because the ads and registration did not specify. There were stencils and tools. They had aprons if you asked but wondered why they just didnt put one on everyones chair? Some holiday themed tools but not much. There was one employee helping each of 3 tables. Our staff was very nice and helpful but she said her expertise was wheel throwing. My table was curious about paint because we could see finished item from previous workshops that were mostly unpainted. Someone had to ask about it. Pretty much they provide a free glaze of one color out of 5-6 colors. If you want to actually paint your mug you have to come back for $25 and you get 1 hour to paint. That kind of defeats the purpose of many peoples designs. Overall a little misleading from lack of info + disorganized especially for $80. I understand that they had to cleanup from previous workshops but it just seemed they are scheduling too many classes with too may people than they can actually handle and not providing info on what is included. The workshop definitely felt self-guided and not a "workshop" On top of that it takes around 3-4 weeks to get your item glazed and ready for pickup and the holidays are over by then? They said even more if you want to come back to paint it. read more

I would have provide more stars if the attitude with some of the instructors were different. I found the girl with a bun very dismissive when i first walked in asking for help in regards to my appointment time. Can't remember her name but she was in charge of the wheel class. The experience itself was really fun. They provide alot of cool tools, clay, aprons. They even provide a good amount of time for you to actually finish the project before you leave. read more

It was our first time trying wheel throwing and it was so much fun. The instruction was clear and yet not overly prescriptive. The environment is clean, relatively tidy considering how many people were in class. The staff was kind, genuine, and overall helpful in their instruction. They really made everyone feel welcome and encouraging students on how to try different techniques to manipulate the clay. So much fun! Thank you so much to the staff for making this a fun experience. read more

So much fun! We had such a good time with our pottery wheel lesson. The instructors were friendly, patient and so helpful. We had plenty of time to work on 3-4 pieces and got to choose which ones to fire and take home. They gave us several color choices and pick up in about 3 weeks or so. Highly recommend, and shout out to Colton, who is one of the co owners and so patient, enthusiastic and helpful. Wishing this duo every success! read more

I came across this new pottery place on Tiktok, and I signed my girlfriend and myself up for an Jntro to Wheel Throwing class for a date night! We were the first ones there for our class, so we go to pick which wheels to sit at and get our aprons. The instructor for our class was Colton, and he was super cool and helpful throughout the class! He gave us a lot of tips and tricks to help us create some basic pieces, and he did a great job at making sure that we were all comfortable with every step and reassured us that because we are beginners, it's okay to make mistakes and not be able to make super complex and intricate pieces from our 3 balls of clay. In the class, we were able to pick 1 piece/ball of clay that we liked the most to be glazed and given to us after the class. We were told that it would take 2-3 weeks for our pieces to be ready after the class, and I ended up getting the pieces about 2 weeks later! They were not lying when they said that the prices would shrink significantly (luckily we were able to successfully make a shot glass and ash tray). Would definitely love to come back and try out the Intro to Hand Building class and the throwing series one month! read more
