Clearly, staff was there. The 4 they had aren't being used properly. Long lines, poor communication, and zero urgency to help customers. This isn't a staffing issue, it's a management issue. There is a whole wall of branded Dodger's gear, a wall of JanSport backpacks, lots of brown, black and red plaid flannels, stuffed animal toys (like a bright blue whale!) and lots of fun printed t-shirts and jackets. The folks who were there helped to carry things to different parts of the store for me (since I wasn't able to on my crutches) and they were great about checking in just the right amount as I browsed. The staff was in the wrong and was trying to charge the customer more. When the customer proved she was being charged the incorrect price, the staff began yelling at her and acting completely unprofessional. Completely unacceptable! The biggest selection of clothing is women's, although there is a small children and men's area. The shop is in a lovely former private home which also houses the offices of the Assistance League. There are plenty of housewares and decorative items and I often purchase greeting cards there for 75 cents each. The icing on the cake is that the Assistance League was the first nonprofit, non-sectarian, non partisan organization started in the western United States. The League's origin goes back to the great San Francisco Fire and Earthquake when Anne Banning, a Los Angeles society woman, and some of her friends, assisted victims of the disaster. Years later, in 1919, the first chapter of the league was formed and the work continues today. The money raised by the Assistance League goes right back into the local community and supports the arts for youth, among other things. You can drop your donations off during the hours the shop is open.
