Aaron's Barber Shop in Saint James NY was one of the most uncomfortable barber shop experiences I…read morehave ever had, and it deserves only one star. The haircut itself was ok at best, but the way I was made to feel during the appointment completely ruined the visit. While I was sitting in the chair, one of the staff members started going on and on about how angry he was that a previous customer had only given him a ten dollar tip. He kept complaining, making comments, and clearly wanted someone to agree with him. The entire time I was sitting there knowing I only had ten dollars in my pocket for a tip myself. Instead of relaxing and getting a normal haircut, I spent the whole time feeling stressed, embarrassed, and uncomfortable. Tipping should never be pressured or guilt-tripped by the staff. It is unprofessional and completely inappropriate to talk about customers like that right in front of another customer. It turned what should have been a simple, easy appointment into an awkward situation that I could not wait to escape from. There are plenty of great barbers in the area who treat their customers with respect and don't make them feel like they're not tipping enough. Sadly this experience at Aaron's Barber Shop was unprofessional, uncomfortable, and more than enough for me not to return. One star.

I was already having a bad week and especially bad day…read more Normally this is my go-to barber shop because they tend to cut ny hair the way I like it. But recently they have been giving me subpar cuts, and to top it all off, they are about 30-40 minutes away from me. I've been going here for years because they are open the latest compared to any other barber shop around me and they fit with my schedule the best. Today, I walked in 2 hours before closing time. My haircut doesn't take any more than 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. Unfortunately, as a typical walk-in , I sat down and waited for about an hour before being told that they could not cut my hair because they were closing soon(there was over 1 hour of time left before closing). So overall, I drove 40 minutes, waited for about an hour, and then drove 30 minutes back to my house and ended up wasting over 2 hours of time today plus gas. No problem. I won't ever be coming back. Thanks for that last straw. Wish someone would've told me earlier maybe as soon as I walked in that there wouldn't be enough time to cut my hair, so I wouldn't have wasted an hour sitting down...

I went to get a fade and this is what happened. I pretty much took it as "get lost and don't come back anymore." Not really putting it on the business, more so on the barber. I guess my 15-20 dollar tip every time wasn't enough. Maybe it's because I'm not a big talker. I don't know. You just expect more when you're paying $60 for a cut regardless of interactions. Unless you're high () I just don't know how you let a customer walk out looking like this. I asked my friends to make sure that I wasn't overreacting but no we all agreed that it looked like I cut it myself...in the dark. We had a good laugh about it though so thanks for that.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our recent experience with Jonathan. My son had been…read moregrowing his hair long for years, and when he made the decision to donate it, we knew it was going to be a big and emotional moment for him. We wanted to make sure the haircut felt special, meaningful, and that he walked away with confidence in his new look. Jonathan exceeded every single expectation we had, and I truly feel grateful for the experience he created for my son. From the moment we walked into the salon, Jonathan greeted us with warmth and genuine kindness. He immediately made my son feel comfortable and excited, which was so important since cutting off that much hair can be nerve-wracking. He took the time to ask my son what he envisioned for his shorter style, listened carefully to his ideas, and even offered professional suggestions to make sure the cut would suit his face shape and lifestyle. It never felt rushed; instead, it felt like Jonathan was giving his full attention to making the moment memorable. The donation itself was handled with such care and respect. Jonathan sectioned the hair perfectly so that it could be sent off without waste, and he explained each step so my son could feel proud about what he was doing. It wasn't just a haircut -- it was a celebration of giving, and Jonathan treated it that way. He even paused to acknowledge how meaningful it was to donate, which made my son feel proud and reinforced the importance of his choice. That thoughtful attention truly made the experience stand out. Once the long hair was gone, Jonathan worked his magic in creating the new cut. I was honestly amazed at how he transformed my son's look. The style was modern, clean, and absolutely perfect for him -- it looked like the haircut he was always meant to have. Jonathan shaped it in a way that framed his face beautifully, and you could see my son's confidence grow right there in the chair. He kept running his hands through his new cut and smiling in the mirror, which made me so happy as a parent. What really impressed me was Jonathan's attention to detail. He made sure every piece of the cut blended seamlessly, and he explained tips on how my son could style it himself at home so it would stay looking fresh. He even suggested products that would be easy to use without feeling heavy, knowing that teenagers don't want to fuss too much with their hair. It was thoughtful touches like that which showed Jonathan truly cares about his clients beyond just the appointment. The atmosphere throughout the appointment was relaxed, friendly, and professional. Jonathan has a natural way of connecting with people, and he made both of us feel at ease the entire time. My son walked out of that salon not only with the best haircut of his life but also with a boost of self-esteem. As a mom, that's all I could ask for. I have been to many stylists over the years, but Jonathan is in a league of his own. His combination of technical skill, artistry, and genuine kindness makes him truly exceptional. This was more than just a haircut -- it was an experience my son will remember for a long time, and it marked such a positive transition for him after donating his hair. If you're looking for someone who can deliver a perfect cut while also creating a memorable and uplifting experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Jonathan. Five stars doesn't feel like enough -- he deserves so much more. We will absolutely be back, and I'm so grateful we found him.
