Aaron's Barber Shop in Saint James NY was one of the most uncomfortable barber shop experiences I have ever had, and it deserves only one star. The haircut itself was ok at best, but the way I was made to feel during the appointment completely ruined the visit. While I was sitting in the chair, one of the staff members started going on and on about how angry he was that a previous customer had only given him a ten dollar tip. He kept complaining, making comments, and clearly wanted someone to agree with him. The entire time I was sitting there knowing I only had ten dollars in my pocket for a tip myself. Instead of relaxing and getting a normal haircut, I spent the whole time feeling stressed, embarrassed, and uncomfortable. Tipping should never be pressured or guilt-tripped by the staff. It is unprofessional and completely inappropriate to talk about customers like that right in front of another customer. It turned what should have been a simple, easy appointment into an awkward situation that I could not wait to escape from. There are plenty of great barbers in the area who treat their customers with respect and don't make them feel like they're not tipping enough. Sadly this experience at Aaron's Barber Shop was unprofessional, uncomfortable, and more than enough for me not to return. One star. read more

I can't say enough good things about Aaron's Barbershop! Walked in looking for a fresh cut from my son and he walked out with one of the cleanest low taper fades he has ever had. Steve is a true artist with the clippers--every detail was on point. The fade was low, sharp, and honestly, massive in the best way possible. The vibe in the shop was great, too--super friendly and relaxed. You can tell they really care about their craft and their customers. Took quite a long time for my cut to get done and I told Simon to not push back my hair line because I already have a pretty big forehead yet he wouldn't listen. Sure he's a perfectionist but to the point where he kept making little adjustments and cutting me I have 3 different locations where my head is scabbing do to the cuts and the blades must not have been clean because I got a rash in the back and I've never had that before. The hair cut wasn't good but the people were very nice. Won't be going there again. read more

Simply the best. This is just like an old school barbershop with barbers that have over 50 years of experience combined or more. They will give you a great haircut plus an old school straight razor shave and massage. I have been going to Aaron for over 15 years and my kids and I are always happy. They have exceptional patience with young kids too. Aaron also does some challenging charity work by cutting hair for a disabled men's home. Seriously this barbershop is the best around. read more

Just wanted to take a second to give some kudos to this shop and our barber Steve. Everyone in the shop is friendly and recognizes/greets you upon entering. We are regulars and always have a great experience. Steve has been cutting my son's hair since his first cut about a year and a half ago.. colton's first cut looked more like many children's first hair cut and consisted of tears and fear but Steve worked so well with him. He met him where he was comfortable (which in the beginning was in the waiting seats‍). He helped Colton transition quickly to the seat and made haircuts such a positive experience. Colton talks about Steve all the time and actually loves getting his haircut. He even made sure there are some children's books so my daughter is entertained while waiting for her brother when she come. So thank you, Steve! Stopped in to have my beard trimmed & lined up and was blown away by the experience! For $16, Simon trimmed my beard with clippers, performed a clean shave of my neck & edges with a straight edge razor (after a hot towel/lotion was put on my face of course) & he even ended the experience with a shoulder/neck massage. Watch out if you want a beard trim! My husband went to this place one time and came home with a completely crooked beard. He would not allow me to post a picture but it is about half an inch lower on one side and much thinner then he asked for. He was clear when he left that he was unhappy with the service but he still had to pay. I called to ask for a refund on my husband's behalf and they told me to come in. When I got there, the owner did not apologize for the poor service and only asked if he liked his haircut, which he did. Both the owner and the barber who poorly trimmed my husband's beard tried to negotiate a refund with me. The barber said $5 and the owner said $7. I am not sure where the discrepancy came from. The owner said, "he was happy with the haircut," as if to imply he should only have to refund for the beard trim. Based on the phone call I was expecting a full refund, but I will let future customers decide for themselves if you think they were just to negotiate. No apology was given for the poor service that was issued. We love supporting local business but he will definitely not be going back after how the refund process was handled. read more

I moved to eastern Suffolk County in 2009. Since that time, over 3 years, I have not found a barbershop with a barber that I felt was able to give me a haircut that I was satisfied with. I went to many different barbershops/hair salons. More than a dozen within 10 miles of my home. None of the barbers l had at these shops could give me a good old fashioned regular hair cut that I was used to. Finally about two weeks ago I landed at Aaron's barbershop in St. James, NY, on middle country road, to try their harcutting. I was immediately greeted very cordially by Aaron when I arrived. I said to myself this is quite different from the treatment received at all the other shops I went to. After a short wait Aaron signaled for me to come to his barber chair. I sat down and he perused my haircut style. He asked me how do I want my hair cut. I told him regular but short. At this point he said that my previous haircut was a mess. Which I myself agreed with. Then he began to work his magic and transform me into the person with a haircut style that I was always used to since a boy. Aaron is a very charming guy, carrying on conversation that was very enjoyable and amusing. I was so pleased with the treatment that I had my hair colored as well.
