Tried Mike's Custom Kuts in Walt Whitman Mall after searching around for someone to tame my beard. Got a great haircut and beard trim from Joey. Online appointment was easy, place is great. Confident this will finally stop my revolving door of Dix Hills / Commack barber shops! read more

Called at 4pm and asked if they accepted walk ins. The guy on the phone moves the phone from his face and asks, "yo this guy is asking about a walk in should i just say no?" Proceeds to tell me yeah not a problem, come in. I say okay i should be there by 5:30. 5:36 comes after driving 20 mins to get here and they no longer have time for walk ins. read more

Walked in with a crows nest of hair, expected a botched job. Left pleased with a refreshing sense of confidence. A beautiful interior with a pleasant atmosphere and all the workers get along really well. It was my first time there but I recommend Vinny, I showed him a pic of what I wanted, he walked me step by step how he'd accomplish the look and given my hairs receding id say it was quite the challenge. but he did me right and recommended the proper product I should use. If you're looking for a cut I highly recommend this establishment! read more

Terrible customer service, unfriendly. The barber who cut my hair didn't even seem like he wanted to be there and did a terrible job. Prices were also outrageous. Definitely would not go back again read more

Came here for the first and it was amazing! I have a hair pulling disorder and wanted to get an undercut to help prevent more damage. My barber was Joe D and he was so nice! I explained my situation to him and he never questioned my "breakage" or bald spot. I wish more stylists/barbers were aware of situations like this because it's embarrassing to talk about and the questions they ask make people with this disorder more insecure but Joe wasn't like that, he made me feel comfortable. For once in over a decade, I was able to relax in the chair and not feel on edge. I would recommend this place to anyone because the staff is so friendly and Joe did an awesome job with my hair, it gave me my confidence back! read more

Mikes Custom Kuts - Barbers Near Me - Smithtown, New York

Have to give a shoutout to Mikes Custom Kuts from todays experience, I went to the location at The Walt Whitman Mall, they just opened about 2 months ago. Walked in for a cut while I was passing by, the place was bumping and every chair was filled, but the guys came to greet me and told me it'll be about 15-20 min for a walk in, so I waited up. Got cut by Joey the manager, and he was super personable, down to earth, and knowledgable about cutting hair, the guys been doing it for over 20 years. He gave a solid cut, good tapeup, helped the beard get shaped up and also trimmed eyebrows and all. We talked about plenty of things from Los Angeles to Food, and it was a great experience and a respectful cut. I'm in NY from time to time, and when I'm in Huntington by Walt Whitman Mall, talk to Joey and he'll hook you up. I'll be back, you should go too, and bring your friends . 5 stars read more

Mike's continues to impress me...Joey A does a phenomenal job on my hair & beard, the vibe is great, the shop is kid-friendly, prices are extremely reasonable. Not about to try another place now, that I've found Mike's. read more

Just walked out of Mikes Custom Kuts about 10 minutes ago, had to write a review: After my beard was butchered by another shop, did some research and found Mikes (I don't even live in Suffolk County). Got my beard trimmed and shaped by Jay. Not only was he personable, he was Incredibly knowledgeable, took his time, gave me tips on how to grow out my beard, and actually had a plan on how to shape my beard as it grows - THIS is a real barber. Jay has a ton of experience as a barber/hairstylist and it shows in the quality of his work. I didn't mind the drive, it was well worth it. Shop was clean and had a great vibe. Thumbs up, 5 stars! I don't typically leave reviews unless it's well deserved - good or bad. read more

I've been coming here for a while now and can safely say that this is one of the best shops on the island. The staff here is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Even though I don't know many of the barbers here except Mario I'm always welcomed warmly by everyone. Shop is incredibly clean and modern. This isn't one of those run of the mill mom and pop shops. Couldn't recommend this place more read more

I came here on a recommendation and with no appointment. The guy who greeted me was nice but then I was farmed out to the unfriendly timid kid with no apparent license. I sit down and tell him what I want and he proceeded to not do what I asked for. I had to convince him to use the straight razor as he tried to convince me the buzzer was better. Why offer a service that you can't provide?? Then he used some shave gel in a large container as the, preferred standard, hot shave cream dispenser was "empty". He shaved my neck like it was his the first time he ever did it, I have to go home and finish it. Then to top it off they only take cash, but you'd have to know that because it's not prominently posted and it's 2021 and who doesn't take a card? Anyway it was my first time and last time there, thankfully I had enough cash on me to get out of there. At least he buzzed my head right, that's about it. read more

**fixed my review because I never read it before posting and realized my thoughts were not very clear When it comes to kids, not my place. I brought my toddler here (who usually LOVES haircuts) and it was not a great experience. To start, when I entered the shop there were three people. Person number one sat in the back right hand side one his phone. Person number two was in the first chair on the right side giving a hair cut, and person number three was on the left side first chair giving a hair cut as well. Now, before I start, let me make sure to explain: maybe this was just an off day for everyone. For starters the place was beautiful, clean and well maintained.- that's as far as my positive experience goes. This was my first time there- not in a barber shop- just first time in THIS barber shop. I am "newer" to the area and I was hoping to find a barber closet to our home- we typically travel about thirty minutes to our current barber. Maybe I didn't understand the way this shop works- i walked in and was immediately uncomfortable, I'm used to being greeted "hi, how are you?" Or "hey, what can we do for you" even a "yo what's up why you in my shop" would have been sufficient at this point. Instead I stood at the front door wondering if I should stand there, sit and wait our turn, or just grab a seat. Person #1 (phone guy): never even turned around. Person #3 (left side- in front of me): had acknowledged my entrance with an eye roll and continued his haircut- when he finished his haircut- he STILL never said hi, instead he grabbed his phone and did his thing. Person #2 (right side): finally spoke after about three mins of awkwardness- in all fairness he was doing hair and was truly paying attention not on his phone- he told man #3 to do my sons hair. The gentlemen who was asked to cut my sons hair was not happy at all. My son began acting out (which is not this mans fault) at this point the whole experience felt like a mess and I didn't feel welcomed and now my son was being a handful- I was ready to leave. There was not communication on hair style or cut between me and the barber. Actually, there was still not even a hello. In all fairness maybe he was a mute- The final result with my experience was this: I was disappointed with the haircut- and I should have spoken up- I try not to be insulting to someone who tries- but the more I look back at the situation this was not a lack of skill, this was just someone who didn't want to do his job for whatever reason. I paid, and while leave another patron entered: and what do you know? He was greeted. I was definitely insulted. And maybe this was just a "chance" situation. However, I will not be coming back to find out. I did go and have my sons hair fixed by his barber- whom he had no problem climbing into the seat and sitting for. I tried this placed based on yelp reviews. I sent my husband there as well (prior to our trial) he said he doesn't love it because no one can give a good cut) in all fairness- he is picky with his hair and no one lives up to his barber back home- I happen to think his hair looks great- although he does have a lot of cuts when he comes home. I can't comment on his actual experience because I have not been there for it. My husband had been there about four or five times- he likes to cycle around to see who he like best first- he wasn't thrilled and is no longer going to be a customer. read more

Shoutout to the troll on the 1st review for this place. Brand new barber shop that has great barbers and its always busy. Central A/C for me is a must as I get hot and sweaty easily and I have never had an issue with being too hot under the plastic apron thing. Joe is my barber and is great with making appointments and getting me in the chair. I get a lot of compliments after every cut!! So reach out and go here....you will not be disappointed with your cut! read more

We took my nephew here for a haircut today. This place is very clean and has a nice modern feel to it. I think my nephews barbers name is Nick - he was very friendly and took his time cutting my nephews hair. My nephew is very happy with his haircut. They are a little pricier than most hair cutters but it is well worth the money. We also did not have to wait. Mikes Kuts is conveniently located off 347 and has ample parking. I highly recommend coming here for a haircut. In fact I wish I had more hair so I could get my own custom cut! read more

Richie, been gettin cut by him since he started over 2 maybe 3 years ago. Great guy, always is ready for whatever style I'm lookin for, very personable. Goes above and beyond to make sure his customers are happy when they walk out the door, won't get cut by anybody else. read more

While they prefer appointments, on a hunch I went in and asked about their best hot towel shave, and a haircut. It took lots of preparing with no notice, Mike Klaus, the fellow who took me was super accommodating, explaing step and it was a really terrific ecperience- great shave, fine conversation, and a very good haircut. Every guy should experience this at least once in their lives. I'm going back. read more

Took my son for a haircut. He wanted a more stylish cut than what he was getting at other places. The place is real modern and trendy. Great employees, clean and the hair cut was awesome. Highly recommended! read more

Wayyy over priced. They don't do anything special. $26 for a cut and then tip. The kid didn't even give me a good cut. I left pissed!!

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE A WALKI-IN. I started going to Mike's Custom Kuts when they were located on Portion road in Nesconset. I kept gong to them even when they moved a few miles down on Terry Road. I always liked the quality of the haircuts and the general friendliness. I stopped being a regular when one of the barbers went out on their own, but I still used them as a backup.. That brings me to today. I needed a haricut for an event I have this weekend. My barber was on vacation so I went to my trusty backup, Mike's Custom Kuts. I walked in and no one said "Hi", do you have an appt.. nothing. I sat for 10 minutes and still nothing. I decided that if this business does not value its walk ins, then why do I need to stay here wasting my time and for $30 for a simple haircut. I can go somewhere else and get neglected for less. read more

Mike's Custom Kuts is top notch. It has such a great vibe and all of the barbers are so nice. They also play awesome music too. I usually go to Richie and honestly i couldn't be happier. I was nervous at first finding a good barber when i cut all my hair off, but he was super cool and every time i go to him it is always exactly what i want, even better actually. Thanks guys. read more

I love my new haircut! Samantha was very nice, personable and paid close attention throughout my experience. The rest of the staff was also friendly and together they give the place a great vibe. Definitely coming back for my next cut! read more

The place is Awesome a bunch of Hair cutting Artist at work. Thanks Mike ! I'll be back read more

I had to leave a review after my sons last haircut. It couldn't be more precise. Mike was so detail oriented and was patient with my son. I showed him a few pictures I liked and he was able to replicate a style as my son had the "right" hair for it. He communicated how I need to style it at home, and what products need to be used to get the same result. I have been going to the barbershop for about a year now and whoever is available to cut my sons hair always does a great job. read more

I've been receiving haircuts from Mikes since the shop was located in Nesconset. Clean shop, great barbers all around (I see Joey A.). Price is right , if you want a good hair cut, you pay. I'm not a huge yelper, however sometimes a location needs some recognition for their good work. If you're looking for a good cut , head to MCK's you won't be disappointed. read more

I'm very disappointed in how i was treated at this place. Other then walking in and the place smelling like pot. Me and my two friends went in to get two lines each on the side of our heads for our mullets and all thought it was only $15 for a trim and he didn't even cut any of the back or top of our heads he charged us $25 because we were young and he took advantage of us. I would never go here again this place treats there customers like garbage. read more

Gary butchered my hair. He cut the entire top off that I keep long, pretty much gave me a wonky crew cut. Idk if he was on something that day or what but it's been a few months and it still isn't completely grown back, I had to wear a hat for at least two months it was that terrible. The owner wouldn't respond to the issue either despite me making multiple attempts to contact them. This wasn't a bad hair cut, this was a scalping. read more

I have been coming here for about 3 months getting my hair cut by Ryan and am always happy with his job. He's always consistent with giving me the haircut I ask for while always being professional and personable. He's always on time and the one time a client ran late he texted me to tell me he was running 15 minutes behind. The barbershop is always clean and is a great environment for both kids and adults. read more

After moving from the city to Long Island I tried 3 barber shops before finally finding the perfect one. I walked in and was greeted by Ryan who hooked me up with one of the best cuts I have had. Reminded me of exactly how I used to get it cut in the city. The shop is extremely nice and modern. He took his time and made sure the cut was perfect and explained his entire process and got to know what style I was going for. I would highly recommend these guys. You're missing out if you don't go to this shop. read more

This place sucks, save your money. Got a badddd haircut here and it was at least $5 more than most other places in the area that do a better job. It gets an extra star because the place is nice and well maintained. Run the other way, they had me in and out in like 15 mins and I still look like a mess. read more

I myself am a hairdresser/colorist and very picky , I like to feel like a client too , I was very skeptical at first with trying a new stylist considering failed attempts in the past, since I moved back to New York it's been rough until now , Danielle not only listened to me but blew me away ... I've never been happier , I'm usually telling clients what they should do with their hair so when she gave me advice on mine I kinda said to myself "ok, let me try" and I'm grateful I did . I shortly then sent my boyfriend and family and all my friends to her .. thanks so much Danielle and the team and mikes custom kutz, you have clients for life . read more

Mike and his entire team are top notch. I've never gotten a better cut anywhere, and I've tried plenty of places. They know current techniques and styles, are they execute them perfectly. Best barber shop on Long Island hands down!! I went a solid 2 years dealing with a barber just because he didn't completely obliterate my hair, even though he was super unreliable. I put out a Facebook post asking about a good barber. Multiple friends pointed me in the direction of a mutual friend Ray Altamura at Mike's Custom Cuts. I gave it a try and I now won't go to another barber again. He gives great cuts and is on point when it comes to reliable. I'm a manager in the car business (anyone in the business knows the limited time I have), so being on point and professional is everything to me. Two thumbs up to Ray and Mike's Custom Cuts. read more

Recently moved to the area and was worried about finding a barber shop that catered to my needs. I was tipped off about this shop from a friend/barber who works on the other side of the island. For another barber to recommend your shop, who is not employed by you you have to be doing something right. My first time in the shop I was a little confused since it's an "appointment only" type shop but I was greated immediately by the man I was looking for, alex. He was on his break and told me he could fit me in right now with no problem. I must say that I've never received more compliments or have had such consistency in years. After knowing him now for a very brief period of time, Alex has stayed late on his day off to accommodate me and make sure I got a haircut in with my crazy schedule. To me that is customer service and with an an employee like that, you have received my loyalty and a customer for as long as I live here. read more
