The people and the place were great. Just wanted to pick up the new blood hunt and X-force and check out what they had. Cool statues of superheroes like Deadpool. Prices were the same almost everywhere...cover price. Was hoping some discount on grafic novels, but no such luck. The guy at the counter was kind to let us use the restroom and even gave us ideas for things to do in San Juan Capistrano.

Top notch game score with just about everything you'd expect for game nerds, especially those into miniatures and gaming systems, as well as the more casual board games for families, friends, and even kids. 'Comic' is in the name and they do have comics. However, the back issues are definitely on the light side and you're better served if you're looking for this weeks newest releases from DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, Image, and Boom! And yet the TPB and graphic novel inventory is solid and they'll order whatever you need. The staff is always responsive and emanating, they've got a big game table area, and they regularly host game nights. Arguably, Comic Quest is the best game store in Southern California. Plus, they have comics.

Is there a game room that can be rented by any chance?

    Do they sell yugioh cards?

Yes, we do. Come on by!

    Does anyone play games here?

Yes, lots of games are played here. Boardgames, Miniature games, card games, etc. Check out the website event page for details: comicquest.org/events. Or call the store during business hours. Thanks for the great question.

Do they buy used table top games?

Comic Quest doesn't normally deal in used items except with cards from TCGs. Perhaps if it were something extremely rare that they would want to get their hands on, they might purchase it from you. Otherwise it's not something they normally do.

Are there Star Wars comic books available?

Hi Mikaela, yes we do carry Star Wars comic books. As well as Trade Paperbacks (collections of comic book stories). There have been some great Star Wars comic books -- come on by the store and check them out.… Read more

The artist actually lives upstairs and actively paints and sells work downstairs. The space is always open during Laguna Beach Art Walk (first Thursday of each month) which is when I first discovered it. Michael Phillips is truly an Idiot Jenius just like his business card says. Michael is very approachable and happy to talk about his art. His paintings are hand drawn and painted, without the use of computer design aides, so his work is really unique. The best part is that each painting has a secret message! The paintings tell stories and usually have some social relevance. One of my favorites is Michael's take on a famous Norman Rockwell painting called "New Kids in the Neighborhood" that was about racism in the 1950's. The Durden version, "Moving Stars," has Starwars kids meeting up with Star Trek kids! Its a totally new take on how kids can play nice despite their differences ;) I also love the superhero clothesline piece. The secret words are the Batman theme song, "Dunna, dunna, dunna, dunna!" Its such a great idea to have the costumes hanging and make people test their trivia. There are several versions of the clotheslines, princesses, villains, female fashion icons, sports heroes, tough guys in movies and even a musicians version called "One Love." Michael doesn't do commission work any more since he's busy branching out into t-shirts and continuously making new work to keep up with his fans at the Sawdust Festival every Summer. So his original paintings sell really fast. The studio gallery has giclee reproductions for sale (he only makes 50 of each painting). You can also get paper prints ($25 or 2 for $40) both framed and unframed (5x7" frames are only $20). The greeting cards are hilarious! One of my favorites is the princess clothesline birthday card that reads: May your pumpkins always have wheels, your mice have GPS, your frogs be tall and handsome, and your watch remain forever at eleven Wishing you a bipity bobity birthday Happy Birthday Princess SO CREATIVE!!! But, the best find were the jigsaw puzzles!!! Such a great idea to take awesome colorful images and make them into something the whole family can enjoy. (99 pieces for $25 and 1000 pieces for $40) I think its remarkable that his prices are so reasonable especially for being an artist in Laguna Beach. Most of all, I love that he makes art for people of all ages. I'm going to love cartoons forever and his pop-art cartoon illustrations are just too good. You can see what's new from Durden Art on Facebook or Etsy but I think its so much more meaningful to meet and purchase from the artist in person.

As I tried to leave, the door employee accused me of not scanning nine items. Another associate rescanned my ENTIRE basket -- it totaled $81, just a $3 difference -- yet she still insisted I "missed NINE items." That makes zero sense. A manager and another employee wanted to rescan my whole cart again. After reviewing my items, I decided I didn't want 5 of them. They took those items -- but never refunded me. When I asked about my refund, the door employee demanded I double pay. Exhausted, holding my dehydrated toy poodle puppy, I tried to leave. She then physically blocked my path, kept demanding double payment, and even flipped her name tag over to hide her identity. Another associate laughed at me and said I'd "have to wait a while longer." By then I had already been standing there for 15 minutes being harassed. I was treated like a criminal despite fully paying, staying calm, and showing my receipt. I left without the 5 items and without my refund. I've contacted corporate and requested camera review. This store's behavior was hostile, humiliating, and completely unacceptable. It genuinely felt like something out of American Horror Story. The way I was treated was disturbing, unlawful, and a violation of my rights. Avoid this location at all costs. After tonight, I'll be carrying pepper spray -- and if I hadn't been so stunned, I would have called the police. No customer should ever be treated this way.

**4-Star Yelp Review**…read more **Great Two-Story Barnes & Noble at Irvine Spectrum - With a Couple of Hiccups** I really enjoy this Barnes & Noble location at the Irvine Spectrum Center. It's one of the nicer bookstores in Orange County with a spacious, bright layout spread across **two full floors** and an impressive selection of books. From bestsellers and new releases to sci-fi, cookbooks, kids' sections, and more -- everything is well-organized and a pleasure to browse. Upstairs is still my favorite spot: grab a good coffee and a pastry from the café, then settle in with a book. The relaxed vibe makes it easy to unwind and read for a while. And the location can't be beat -- stepping outside into the lively Irvine Spectrum Center with its fountains, palm trees, shopping, and endless food options turns any visit into a fun outing. That said, during my recent visit the escalator wasn't working, so I had to take the stairs while carrying books and drinks, which was a bit inconvenient on a two-story store. The bathrooms were also out of service, which was disappointing. These maintenance issues knocked it down a notch for me. Overall, it's still a solid bookstore with a great atmosphere and unbeatable surroundings. Clean, well-stocked, and friendly staff make it worth visiting, just hope they get the escalator and restrooms fixed soon! **Visited: May 2026** **Would I return?** Yes, but I'd check the facilities first next time.
