Firstly, My husband and I are not big comic book readers. We have friends and family who are though. I have heard many stories about how interesting they are and seen many Comic related shows and such. So when my husband said let's go to our local comic book store, I was surprised. Comic Quest has been around for a while and I know it must be doing well enough to stay in that location. Even though it is tucked back at the end of the street you can still easily find it. Anyways, the guy that helped us was very informative and helpful with what we were looking for. Since I know next to nothing about comics or what to look for in a comic I was glad there was someone there who was intelligent and kind enough to show me to what I was looking for. I do love Wonder Women and have gotten into the Walking Dead recently, which is what brought us to this store. They had plenty to choose from and for me really good prices too. In the past 21 years, I've seen a number of comic book stores come and go in south Orange County. There's a reason Comic Quest has not only survived, but continued to expand! Not only do they have a great selection of comics, but there are plenty of board games and role playing games to choose from as well. They have the appropriate accessories for everything as well: plastics and backing boards for the comics, a huge dice selection, miniatures for the wargames, and more. The employees are very knowledgeable about the products, and are very helpful. This is the store to go to if you like comic books, board games, war games, or role playing games! read more

Tucked away at the end of a lonely, tiny, side road in a seemingly forgotten part of Lake Forest is a hidden gem called Comic Quest. They have a surprisingly great selection given the size of the store...a brilliant use of space! They also have a decent sized gaming section as well. Excellent comic book store, great selection and outstanding customer service! A special day, my 5 and 6 year old boys picking out their very first comic books, and we weren't looking to just buy something, we were looking for a great experience and an awesome memory. Kyle greeted us at the door and was very generous with his time, taking the time to explain the history of comic books, the superheroes, the different ways they could build their collections and much more. I play Magic here on the occasional Friday night. Both the staff and players have always been friendly and nice. Their Friday Night Magic events are free, so if you are a new player I definitely recommend you to this shop. Nothing kills my stress like reading comics so I was stoked to find this local spot to pick up my fix of the newest reads recently. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the shop is big. Admittedly, I go straight to the new marvel rack get my books and go but there seems to be a great selection of all kinds of things. I love this place - I've been coming here for almost 20 years and it's not a place I'd be embarrassed about bringing my girlfriend or mother to, let alone any of my non-geeky friends. It's pretty much the opposite of the Simpsons "comic-book guy" stereotype (which makes me think the review that mentioned that is a plant/shill for somebody else). The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and even if they're not familiar with a piece of esoteric trivia they're always game to talk about it and learn more. Stuff sells out occasionally, but since they always offer to reorder anything for no charge and hold it for you that's no reason to complain, especially since the industry is so messed up that stores are stuck with unsold comics. I can't blame someone for not wanting to lose tons of money because they dared to be optimistic about a new book! And if you're really concerned about not missing any books or too impatient to wait for a reorder, they have subscription service and will hold all of your books for you until you can pick them up at your convenience, and they knock off 10% of the price to boot. I'd say that saves me money, but I always use that extra cash to buy more comics! You can sometimes find cheaper books on the Internet, but that doesn't come with the chance to hang out with other fans and talk about the industry. It's like a bar but for geeks! If every store was like this I think comic book stores would be shown in a much more positive light in the media/amongst fans. read more

Being that I don't drive, despite me being 17, this really the only comic book store I can go to. This doesn't mean I haven't been to other stores. Not certain if its the stockholm syndrome talking or I haven't been going to the right comic book stores when looking else where, but this is the best one I've been to. My first experience going here was when my brother drove me in the summer of 2012 where I picked up an issue of Deadpool #44, and I've been reading that book over-and-over until two weeks ago when I learned the Deadpool series restarted with Marvel Now!, when I picked up a collected edition of 1-6 at Barnes & Nobles (I know "Shame on Me"). Being that they are only at issue 22, and I already had 1-6, I felt like I can finally follow a series from the start without needing to many back issues. Now enough of my love of the Merc with the Mouth (MAKE THE MOVIE GOSH DANG IT!!!) and back to the store. When I walked in I I was warmly greeting and got straight it picking out my books but was kindly interrupted by the clerk (This was a good thing). He told me that they had more of the collected editions from that series and showed me where they were, so I was going to buy 7-12 as well as 13 (because dat cover art doe) but my card was declined (My fault not his), because I apparently didn't have as much money as I thought (CURSE YOU LATE NIGHT AMAZON SEARCHES), but he didn't make me feel embarrassed by it so I sadly put back 13 to get 7-12. While doing this I noticed the price was $3.25 instead of $2.99 it said on the comic, this didn't bother me because I get that they need to make money to stay in business and it wasn't that much more (But if its your first time here be aware of that). I'd have to say that this is really worth the walk there and will recommend them to all my friends. read more

Came in for free dice day, I found a good deal on a warhammer 40k model. I brought to the counter to check out & they told me a different price! They would not honor the sticker price. Natasha was very helpful and the gentleman also in the store was pleasant. I can't really comment on the quality of their comic book selection though it seemed sufficient in quantity at the least. Great selection of games, especially table top miniatures (plenty of GW sets and FFG minis). They also seem to have plenty of activity as far as tournaments for various games like a FLGS should. I will try a tournament sometime this year and hope my initial experience holds up. :) read more

I love comic quest. They have a friendly staff and a wide range of comics and comic related merchandise. However my favorite thing about the store is their range of board games, paints and dice. They have a whole room for these items. They also have a back area for tournaments and gaming. I haven't used it bit it there always seems to be a lot of people enjoying their games back there. read more

Love this place!!! My boyfriend and I are getting in to Magic and the staff has been awesome in helping us learn and pick decks. We went to the Magic night tonight and everyone was so awesome! I've been on a quest, no pun intended, for some dice to get my Dungeons and Dragons on! I've went to 3 different comic book shops with no success. Then i walked into Comic Quest. They had a rack but none of them seemed to be for D&D , then i turned around and saw the cabinet! OH MY what a wonderful cabinet! Its a multilevel cabinet that is on a carousel system theres two buttons on top of the cabinet that rotates the levels. Soo many dice! Fair prices, i'll be back!! read more

Although prices aren't super expensive, but compared to other comic stores prices were more expensive. Comics that you could easily find for $3 are marked up to $5 and it isn't the biggest price difference but when it adds up and the potential money that could have been saved there is a difference. read more

This place is a little messy, a bit disorganized, a tad hectic, and VERY charming. They have a good solid selection of comics, though they lack in Golden and silver age stuff (alas, like most places) but for modern and current age stuff you will find a good selection. They also do tons of miniatures and dice for all different games. Definitely a shining star of minis in the neighborhood. You'll find reaper bones plastic and metal, pathfinder 28's, war machines, warhammers, and tons more. My only complaint here is that they aren't organized, so I spent a lot of time taking all the minis off the racks to make sure I wasn't missing any. Friendly employee, too, who actually talked to me about my purchase and made a human connection, rare in customer service especially hobby shops. Kudos. Missing one star because the minis are tough to navigate, but I'll definitely stop back by when I'm in town. read more

This rating is mainly for their inventory. I went in on a Saturday afternoon and they still had several copies of recently released issues from the prior Wednesday!! I love this. A lot of other shops I visit fail to order enough stock and usually sell out of top titles in less than a day. But not Comic Quest. Also was thrilled to see several recent variant covers that were well stocked, again another thing some other shops don't do unless you special order them. Bravo Comic Quest. This is my favorite place! They stock the place to the ceiling with everything cool. They have a huge selection of new comics and the largest collection of graphic novels I've ever seen (and I travel a lot). Besides comics they have a huge selection of miniatures (games workshop) and a lot new board games. My girlfriend doesn't mind shopping with me because two of employees there are female, and she can browse the board games while I shop for comics. So she doesn't feel as out of place as some other places. The staff is usually very friendly. the only downside is that they rotate a lot so you don't get to know them as 'regulars', and some seem to experts in comics while others are experts in games. so it is hit or miss on their knowledge. read more

Subscription patron who dropped about 200 a month; received a voicemail when I was out of town that I needed to pick-up my books so a week later I show-up to grab my books. The kid behind the desk calls his boss and tells me "He said he called you two weeks ago and said it was your last warning." Really? It was a week and you threaten a high-value customer who spent 300 the previous month on DCs new 52? The guy behind the counter was trying to be nice, probably because I was there and he had to deal with me and said I could pull my issues from the shelf. You're right, the customer should do the work to do business with you, are you kidding? I asked for the owner's name, it's "Dom" - My response was "why don't you call Dom down here and he can pull my issues." Oh, he lives in Long Beach, he really can't make it down here. This is one of my favorite comic shops because they not only have a wide range of comics, including the independents, but they also have games, figures and painting supplies for the figures. They are fairly large as comic book shops go too. Most shops I've been in are half the size. The best part of the store is the employees. They are friendly, helpful and enthusiastic about their stock. read more

Comic Quest has a great selection of board games and comics, as well as a decent range of card games and minis games too. The store staff are knowledgeable and friendly and that's really what makes this such a great place to shop. They have a game room where they host frequent meetups for Magic (free, friendly tournaments in a variety of formats), Warhammer, Pathfinder, board games, and more. The usual crowd is decently casual and exceptionally friendly, making it perfect for new and old gamers alike. Overall, a great store! read more

Comic quest represents the old time geek experience, holding everything I could ever want. Their miniature selection is incredible, their paints always in stock, and they have some of the most obscure rpg books you can imagine. Their prices are fair, their staff have always been extremely helpful ( spending a good 20 minutes just to find the price on a obscure book that I was just interested in finding the price for, that wasn't in the system) people can say what they will about this place but I know where I will always come for my fix of comics, miniature and board games for the week. read more

This is an awesome store! I have been going to Comic Quest for over 25 years. Don is always trying to update the store to keep it current and relevant so it dosent become one of "those comic book stores". Their boardgame selection has grown tremendously in the last 2 years and is easily the best place to buy american style and Euro style games in the area. Their comic and miniatures selection, as always, is great and their staff is awesome too. They are always willing to answer questions or get the answer if they dont know it. CQ is very unique in that it offers a huge selection of products in both comics and games. The store is split 50/50 between comic issues/books/toys and miniatures/wargames/boardgames/rpgs. They have a fantastic selection of trade paperbacks, and a great wall of current issues (especially recently, with all of DC's New 52 on-shelf; which is great for those rolling in to get into comics). There is also a huge selection of dice (my favorite!), as well as miniatures, and books for tabletop gaming, and even some of the most popular brands of trading card games. I think its impossible for anyone to be knowledgeable about every genre and every individual product stocked, but the staff tries their best to be helpful and I have always found them friendly and successful in answering my questions. CQ has also revamped their subscription policy format to make it more clear and noticeable (after issues with subscribers not reading/fully understanding said policies). I think that CQ's responsiveness to any complaints they encounter makes them loyal to their customers, which isn't found in a lot of places.
