The only reason for a "one" rating is that there is no "ZERO." The ONLY saving grace is that the…read morewindow air conditioner worked. The Inn is interesting only in that it is an historic structure. It was once probably quite lovely. But you enter from the parking lot into a hall cluttered with stuff. Indeed, this is an indicator of what the rest of the inn is like--years of hoarded items, stuff, and more stuff, everywhere. Vacuums, bicycles, spare wood, all stuck in corners, an office overflowing with junk, tables covered in old newspapers. The whole place needs a deep cleaning and cleanout. The Inn was stuffy, like the windows had not been opened in years. Musty, dank, hard to breathe. With all that dirt and clutter, I would not be surprised if there were rodents and roaches. The room was small. The decor was old and dusty. The windows were filthy. As another reviewer mentioned, the bathroom was likely once a closet, and contained a tiny standup shower and toilet. And then of course, there was no hot water. The many pictures on the Inn's website illustrate wonderful breakfast options. However, we were told that breakfast was at 830am only and we were told what would be served--eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, and fruit cup. The breakfast we received consisted of disgusting industrial powdered scrambled eggs, white toast, and cold hash browns. There was bacon and fruit cups. The coffee was absolutely undrinkable and one of our party received their coffee in a dirty mug. At breakfast, after one of our party endured a cold shower, we told the staff there was no hot water. The innkeeper told us that the hot water heater was being worked on. No offer of refund or compensation due to the lack of hot water. The owner basically said there was nothing he could do--which meant there was nothing he wanted to do to make things right. So much for customer service. We understand that keeping an inn of this size running well is challenging. The inn's website belies what the inn actually is like. The reality is that the inn is dirty, musty, cluttered, and not kept up. Stay anywhere else.

My mom talked about this property for years. She lived in Pennsylvania and attended a wedding and…read moreshe was always convinced I'd love it here. I was living in California and every time I'd get back to the east coast, she'd suggest going here. Unfortunately, we never got to experience a visit here together after she suddenly passed from an aggressive cancer. It became my goal to come here and visit with her on my mind. Years later, I moved back to the east coast and booked a random weekend just for fun. I'm married now with kids so we made the drive here to experience all that the Omni had to offer. I've stayed at other Omni resorts and I wavered on what this place would land on ratings wise. Overall, it's a beautiful hotel with a lot of history that I loved learning about. My kids absolutely loved the indoor pool. It is as gorgeous as the photos look. It's a nice spot, especially when it's a chilly Pennsylvania day like when we visited. With that said, there isn't a ton to do here with kids. It was the perfect amount of time for us, but met other families who were struggling to keep their own kids occupied. There are some really nice trails around the property, which are perfect. And you can also check out some free toys and games from one of the shops inside. That said, if you don't have great weather, options can be limited. We didn't get a chance to visit the spa, but the space looks amazing from what I saw online. The rooms were spacious and well set up for a family. We ate at a few of the restaurants on site. Service was mostly on point though the tavern was really off. Our server was perfectly friendly but pretty much messed up the entire order. I would go back but not sure I'd be eager to rush back anytime soon. We did enjoy the experience but I think a few bumps could be worked out such as helping with our luggage upon arrival. We were able to valet but couldn't find anyone to help us with the bags and the rolling carts don't easily go over the front door to get inside. Between me and my partner, we were able to make it work. But it's those small details that make a property really stand out.

Afterward, we had lunch at the Frontier Tavern, and everything was fantastic. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food was absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding. Every member of the staff we interacted with went above and beyond to make our visit special. From the spa to lunch, the entire experience was memorable and truly exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, and we can't wait to come back again.

On my most recent trip home this time I needed to have a place where I could do some work as well…read moreas have some peace and quiet. I needed a kind of vacation when I knew I was going to be busy with family all weekend. One where I could unplug after work and be done with everything and have some me time. I have stayed at several hotels in the Johnstown area before and had a range of great to horrible stays. Kind of trying to find the best place to stay while in town when I opt to not be with family. This was basically the only place I had not been to in the area (to note: there are just some that I will not even try). The Hampton Inn in Johnstown sits overlooking Route 219, looking very prominent and close to everything. The reality of it is that when you get off the highway you have to go on a bit of trek to get there. It sits off of the connector road from the shopping plaza to the industrial park. At the end of a cul-de-sac that has nothing else on it. It's out of the way, but still feels connected to everything. I do say, use caution when you exit here. The entrance to the place sits almost at the crest of a hill, almost a blind hill where if you are not paying attention you could be taken out by a vehicle coming the one direction. As for the hotel itself, it is fairly newly remodeled. It has the newer outside look with the abstractness and coloring. Inside gives a welcoming, updated take and allows for things to flow. From the main entrance you come into the lobby area which flows into the seating area for meals and out to the outdoor area where the pool is located. But, if you are me, you used the app to check in before arrival and used the virtual key so you could completely bypass the front desk. When I booked my room, I used the Hilton app and selected a regular room with a king bed. When I checked in that morning I was assured this was correct. However, when I arrived and got to my room, I had a accessible room. I feel like they just put me in this room since I selected a late arrival. I also feel that this room could have been better used for someone that truly needed it. But, what I can say was amazing about the room, and this is probably the top thing, is the proximity to a side door and the parking lot. The bad thing, and this is tops in regards to bad, is that it sat right across the hallway from the housekeeping area where they leave the door open all day while they work and you not only get to hear their music, but smell the laundry being done. Try working from your room when you have music playing in the background from across the hall. As for the room itself, it was decent. Fully remodeled in the sense that everything was updated. With holdovers from things past. The most notable thing was the air unit. It was so far into the room that it acted like a shelf for items and a hinderance when you wanted to close the blinds. Also, it was slow to respond to your choice of temperature in the room. It was freezing in my room for nearly a day before it caught on that the 70 was for warmth since it was rainy and cold outside. I actually had to crank it to 82 for it to kick over to heat for me. Vinyl flooring, comfortable bed, fridge in room, desk space, seating area round out the room. But the bathroom, I was not a fan. With it being an accessible room it felt like I was sitting in a high chair toilet. I'm short, but I've never been toilet short before. And the shower, they tried their best here. I now understand the drain placement in the middle of the bathroom as well as the shower. It did not matter how I positioned the shower head, half the water pooled in the middle of the floor. I had that shower head pointed every which direction I could and that bathmat was no match for the amount of water that came out of the shower stall. The one plus side here was the complimentary breakfast. Each morning it was something different with constant items. Waffles, yogurt, juice. But the hot items would change, eggs one day, omelets the next. Checking out was as easy as checking in for me. I used the app and out the door I went.

The people working here are friendly, the hotel is newer and in good condition, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean and well lit. Breakfast starts at 6am - not 6:30 like at some Holiday Inns - and offers a reasonable number of varieties of things to eat. Coffee is good, juice is available. And they still have the walnuts, cinnamon, and brown sugar for their oatmeal. There aren't too many choices of where to stay in this area but this is my go-to and also the go-to for all of my coworkers as well.

Because I had booked online I was given whatever room was available when I showed up, to give you a bit of forewarning, I got the accessible room which affords you a lot more room than a typical room you book. I will say that this place did it right. When I lived in the area the Holiday Inn was your typical older style. Then they decided to do a total tear down and rebuild. With them doing so they really made this place one of the newer and nicest places to stay in the Johnstown region. It sits on Scalp Ave. and feels like an island unto itself. Right next to a medical building, grocery store, and small strip mall. The strip mall offers a choice to eat so you really don't have to go far to grab a bite to eat or get in your car to go somewhere. Checking in was a breeze and I got through that fairly quickly. Once checked in I made my way to my room which was off the lobby area. The lobby area is a nice area with ample space to relax and this is where the free breakfast is served. It is bright, clean and just feels fresh. Even though my room was off the lobby area it was easier to get to my room by using an alternative entrance. I was the last room on the stretch of rooms and prior to the staff area. It was quiet in the area for being so near the lobby that I had no idea at times I was near the lobby. As I stated, my room was an accessible room which meant that it was larger than most. But it didn't feel empty. The bed was comfortable, I had a foyer type area where the fridge was located and allowed for me to store items. The bathroom was spacious and the shower was amazing. I was able to relax and not feel like I was being bothered or bothering other people. I can see why this hotel is a used for events when they are in town.
