Kara was able to give us everything we asked for as we planned our dinner party celebrating my husband's 75th birthday. Every detail was executed perfectly. We even had a palate cleansing sorbet between the soup/ salad course and main entree. And to top it all off "Irma Cake" for dessert. If you've never tried these cakes, you are missing something wonderful. Carrot cake, coconut cake and red velvet were all delicious!. Our servers were very good and they provided us with a private space in the main dining room with a partition. This review is for Ace's as a whole. They do offer catering, but this is for the actual physical…read morebuilding that can be rented for events. Let's hit on some of the positive things first. Decent size on the inside that allows for a variety of events to be held within. Decorations make the space look elegant. The dancefloor is a decent size. The bar area is capable of serving a multitude of drinks. The food was on point. Now, let's get into the nitty gritty of this place. Parking is atrocious. Yes, there is a parking lot adjacent to the building and some on street parking. Be mindful of the residents in the area, there are driveways that could be blocked. But also be mindful that Ace's management don't care if the parking lot for Ace's is being filled with vehicles that have an intention to go elsewhere in the neighborhood. If you bring this to their attention, the owner will tell you that they all work together in the neighborhood and that it's not a problem. Translation: not my problem, too bad your guests didn't show up earlier even though we were not open. The bathrooms inside are so small and cramped that you could and can get hit by the stall doors when you are using a urinal. Reminds you of a very old firehall. Or maybe a church hall with no windows. Guests were well behaved during the event. Mindful of the neighborhood. But the owner of the business makes assumptions that the guests "damaged" a planter outside by shoving a glass beer bottle into it, and took to their own personal Facebook page to blast the "wedding guests." Funny thing is, the bar area did not serve beer in bottles and alcohol outside is prohibited. But let's make assumptions to cover our insecurities. Since I seem to be focusing on management/owner here, let's go a little deeper. Be mindful of the card box if you have one for a wedding. I mean it was nice that they secured the box part way through the wedding, but did not let anyone know they did so. Then when you want to retrieve the card box the next day it is like pulling teeth. Or maybe the owner is keeping it as ransom for something. When attempting to reach the owner to set up a way to secure the box you get chastised that he does not read texts while he is out conducting business via the catering business. If that's how you run a business, let someone else do it. You are allowing your personality to shine through and it is not appealing to attract business. Also, be mindful that you are basically in charge of setup and clean up of your own event. And god forbid if you have multiple things going on that would make for multiple trips here. Yes, you did read that correctly, you are responsible for cleaning up after yourself directly after your event. Such a good practice for an event space. Also, keep receipts from this place. Write a check, keep the ledger updated. Receive an email, keep it. If you do happen to get a receipt, keep it. Also, make sure that you schedule around the owner's time as he doesn't seem to understand how life works and that people have jobs. Remember, keep those receipts because once you have paid off the fee, they will attempt to say you are short without proof, so save your proof. If you have a crap attitude and run your business short of a scam, maybe running a catering/event business is not for you. Or maybe you should take a course in personal relations and learn to at least be fake a smile and keep it to yourself like everyone else in the world has at your age.

I've wanted to attend a convention held at the Blair County Convention Center for several years,…read morebut the distance and costs didn't work out until now. The convention center is easy to find, being a short distance off of Interstate 99. Parking is adequate with both a front lot and garage on the side of the building. Convention center is surprisingly large but easy to navigate. Setsucon, the convention I attended, did not use the bottom floor. Top Floor has a good amount of space that includes both main event and meeting rooms. Even with an estimated 1,000 attendees, the top floor was not crowded. Bathrooms were larger than expected and able to handle a crowd. The cafe area the convention center setup had many options that were surprisingly good and inexpensive (everyone seemed to rave about the meatloaf.) There are also many dining, entertainment, and shopping options in the surrounding area. Blair County Convention Center does have some flaws. Elevator to the attached hotel is a potential choke-point due to being very slow. The attached hotel, a Courtyard by Marriott, is small for the size of the convention center. But between the hiking trails and finding Summer Smiles Honey Farm the weekend was a blast. Possibly not romantic but a really great time. I was searching for Honey Farms in the area to pick up some local honey. When I found this Farm I saw that it was run by two women and I knew that I had to go there. Even though their hours that they were closed on Sunday I sent them a text just hoping that maybe for Memorial Day weekend they had different hours. I was pleasantly surprised, actually ecstatic, when I got a text back inviting us to the farm. Not only are they a honey farm they also run Airbnb. So if you're looking for a good time you can always rent out one of the air B&B rooms and then order their homemade food that is made in their kitchen on the farm. Honestly can you think of anything better than waking up and eating food that you were looking at or you can walk through. This was a great find. We also learn that they do pizza in their pizza oven that's outside, and music. I honestly cannot wait to go back. I purchase some honey, some bread, some eggs, and some of their butter. We then took a walk on the property with the dog and ended up in the barn meeting the rescued goats, pigs, and cow. Honestly it was great. Darci one of the owners, who showed us around, was absolutely wonderful. She was so warm and friendly and allowed us to see how she runs the farm all from a text message request to buy honey. That was the best part. Not only did she open up shop for us she talked to us for at least an hour and allowed us around the property to see how she runs the place. It was great. If you are looking for a place to stay while in Somerset stay here. They have four Airbnb rooms that look so fun and the menu that they cook up in their kitchen looks great. Just a sample the bread and the butter with some of that honey, yum yum. I can't imagine that anything that she cooks would taste bad. Try it out if you're around the area. You will not regret it.

At the end of the wedding the catering coordinator asked me for a tip. There was a 21% gratuity on the final invoice and they never let me know where that went to when I asked. The seating/set up chart I received was NOT how it was set up the day of. There was a wedding the day before mine and we had to intrude on them to have our rehearsal which was unfair to them (I just hope their wedding turned out better than ours). The ceremony site was left over from the day before and a complete mess we had to realign the chairs ourselves. If you take Tim up on officiating he might decide to back out last minute and not tell you and have someone else do it who let's their phone ring during the ceremony and NEVER turn in your marriage license until you get a state representative involved. Their response was a $500 refund which I did receive but for the amount of stress they put me under on my wedding day that I shouldn't of had to deal with is unacceptable.
