I love their eggplant and meatballs. I have some advice for the management. When someone (me) calls to place an order and asks "do you deliver?" Train your staff to say "yes we do, but there is an additional charge of $5.00" She did ask if I wanted to tip the driver. Which I said "yes! Add $5.00" Total bill for 1 eggplant sandwich 2 meatballs and a side of Pasta 1 tiny piece of tiramisu (used to be much bigger) $47.00 I think NOT saying there is a delivery charge is deceptively wrong. Last Sunday afternoon, we decided on a whim to get take out pizza. The parking lot was fairly crowded so we thought it would be a long wait. We were presently surprised. We ordered a large Cheese Pizza and a large Pepperoni. The nice server told us 15 minutes and boy that's all it took!! We took the hot pizzas home to the family and they were delicious. Nice thin crust with a delicious sauce. The pepperoni was evenly distributed and the kids loved it. It's a lovely restaurant with an Italian feel. I highly recommend. Usually great pizza. This review has to call out how much less you get, for so much more. A regular at Westwood, I get asked "is this ok" and have been put on the spot for burned (blackened) or what tonight eventually measured a 14" (s/b 15") pie, that I wasn't sure was under done, with missing cheese. I'm not that old, but remember when 14" was small and 17" large. I also remember Comella's "2 cheese, for $15-17". Inflation, I get it. Comellas's, you can go up in price or down in quality and portions. Doing both is a turn-off. read more

I asked how long it would be they said a half hour. an hour later I called to see where the order was they said it's there for pick up. they said it would go out with the next driver. I have been to Comella's in Newton - perhaps 100 times over 5-10 years living near there so I know them well. Was happy to see them take over the Victoria's location along my work commute. Love their "Pa's or GrandPas's Mess". When I was tight on money we would buy the large family size and my friends and I would go in on it for a good food at a great value. We had that nearly exclusively (great meatballs, and sausage, and my wife loves the Parm Mess called "Brothers" I had a club meeting for 12 and catered it through Westwood and we had a perfect dinner (Grandpas/Chicken Parm, Ravioli, Salad, Antipasti and 3 loaves. The only thing I thought and still think was subpar is their bread (same in Newton branch) it seems dry and stale most of the time. Not sure why - it is as if they baked it 3 hours before and it is old - Perhaps it just doesn't make it home OK but not great. Westwood - Counted the days until they opened. Food is good - the same quality seems there. This branch seems a bit disorganized staff wise as there (perhaps as they are new and might still be training). There are a lot of people there, but it didn't seem to run too smoothly. Hope that gets worked out as I am a fan otherwise. Update made over a year later before I finished posting my draft for review. One of the most important thing IMO is how a restaurant handles a bad experience and upset customer - I had two orders screwed up after some menus o line service change, and was extremely impressed with the manager who spoke to me personally when I came back after not getting dinner. C Being called by name by the manager that day, and a week later to apologize personally to me was impressive as it showed he actually cared they screwed up a loyal customer. Ever since I've been back there, every single time he's personally greets me and remembers my name. Professional, and as polite as can be which was impressive! When i lived in the area and they first opened I thought was good and one of the better options around so I thought I would pickup dinner from here when visiting the grandparents and being it over. It wasnt the same. The mess I ordered was less than par. Only had ziti and a few meatballs thrown in and tasted like it was just mixed with store bought jarred sauce. Pizza was to say not cooked well done .. it was uncooked dough. Once redone it was still not cooked.. flavor bland and disgusting. How hard is it to cook a pizza? Decent comfort Italian food. Pizza is cheap but better when you eat it right out of the oven - it doesn't sit or reheat well. Salads are uninspired: very basic and feels like you could do the same thing in your kitchen in 30 seconds for under a dollar. The "mess" is where they really shine. We love the eggplant and meatball mess (aka, "The Nephew" on the menu) for its huge portion ( 1/2 bucket is a serious amount of food) and it's really quite good. Also notable are the wraps - the Cobb and the Caesar both nicely done. Is it the best food ever? No, but I don't think it's pretending to be. Family friendly - we have little kids we are regulars a couple times a month price conscious - they have very cheap pizza...so they earned 4 stars. Comella's is just fine. I dont order their pizza takeout. I have before, and it was cold and soggy. I haven't had it in person. Normally, I order some sort of simple pasta for takeout. It is the kind of thing I could make at home, but usually order because I dont have the time. And that's what Comella's is to me - a quick fix when I don't have any plans or time to prep. It would also be a nice place to take kids after practice and games. Food is good but not great, and the main issue seems to be inconsistency. Everyone is always friendly. The service here was pretty bad, I ended up getting someone else's dish. The pizza was mediocre as expected. Nothing special about it. Nothing crazy here, would not go on a date here or even bring your friends here... I was questioning whether or not to even write this review. This is the type of spot that you bring your kid's sports team after a game, kids will not care about the pizza being meh and their orders might get mixed up but hey, the kids had fun right? Food is always hot and tasty. I like how the counter person always shows me the pizza in the box to ensure it is cooked to my satisfaction. The interior is attractive, neat, and always clean. Service is prompt and efficient. I like the menu selection and the limited desserts are just the right compliment to the entree choices. Bar is an added bonus. Parking is ample. I wish they would have more than one phone line or have more than one person working the line for quicker order placement, especially on Friday's. This place is a nice addition to the town and has proven to be a great neighbor to the community. read more

Being Italian and knowing flavorful sauce, I think theirs is a let down. Their dough is tasty, but they don't put enough sauce on their pizza. We paid 25 dollars for 2 pizzas with 2 toppings each. I think you can hardly call it that if it's only has one tiny slice of avocado per side! It did come with a ton of bacon but I asked for extra crispy bacon and it's still a little soggy. I first got the buffalo chicken sub sandwich and I really liked it. It was my first time there, and I am already hooked on it! The buffalo chicken wasn't too hot, and the bread wasn't too soggy nor overly toasted. The second time, my friends ordered a couple boxes of cheese and pepperoni. I caught myself eating 2 slices of each pizza, but I couldn't help it because it was too delicious. The pizza was prepared perfectly for handling. The crust was a little too thick, but I let it slide because I ate them all. I wouldn't really want to try the spaghetti ever again because it was too cold, soggy and mushy because it was mixed around in the marinara sauce. I'm not a huge fan of cannolis, but their's in particular was decent, although the creamy inside was a bit too excessive. The price was decent, maybe like a $ or $$. read more

Eating there is tempting, but for the last 6 months they have had one or two menus in the whole place....and they are folded pieces of paper that are stained, wrinkled and overall disgusting. Food quality has declined. Tonight my stuffed shells are runny inside. The fried ravioli used to be excellent but they changed them completely and they are inedible - outside is too chewy and the inside is a strange paste. So disappointing as this used to be our weekly go-to. read more

I've given Comella's a few chances now, and I feel the need to raise this review to a "Yay! I'm A Fan". That said, it probably should only be three stars, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Over time, they have gotten much better about pick up times. For the last year or so, there have been barely any two hour waits, and the service has been friendly, helpful and accurate throughout my last few visits. Being that they have such a varied menu of Italian food, and essentially the only "restaurant" on this side of Westwood, I've learned to be somewhat patient and go-with-the-flow. Too many places have come in and out of Westwood to get annoyed, you just take what you can get. Their menu is varied and includes the all-time Comella's favorite pizza (for only $5.99), pastas, raviolis, various 'messes' (great for family get-togethers or other larger events), salads, wings, sandwiches and more. You can find the full menu on their website. The Westwood location is also much larger than others (like Needham) and provides a boatload of seating inside, which can be a plus if you're looking for an eat-in restaurant. Still not my favorite restaurant, but they continue to get better, and now that there aren't the long, long waits and friendly, helpful service (and good prices), this place has become somewhat regular for me. 4 stars for Comella's in Westwood. read more

Sorry about this tonight put on hold at least three times during ordering process. Told 25 minuets and went to get order took another 30 minuets. Presented with like eight bags of food doubled everything in my order added a dish I never ordered double.. called to review order when got home and checked credit card charge was over charged 20.00$ got manager on phone was put on hold by her also. Busy night everyone getting back to Town after vacation week. Had on line order with same name on it. Accused of double order. Why would I do a grub hub and pick up as well. No answer. Well my answer think about ordering via phone.. I presume there was mix up as I was put on hold three times in ordering process and twice during read back. Once while trying to reconcile billing. Bad experience tonight. Sad because we like Comella's. I work down the street so I order from here at least 2 times a month. I usually order on-line for pick up to expedite the service since I am always too busy for lunch. All the times Ive went in to pick up thinking it was going to be an in and out thing since the order is already paid for online and I got an alert saying it was ready for pick up, it ends up taking at least another 10-20 minutes to get out of there. They only have 1 person at the counter, taking orders, answering the phones and serving as a waiter. I like Comellas but I will think twice before ordering from here next time because even the little orders are so time consuming. read more
