So funny, we laughed so much! The scene changes were cleverly done and the costume changes for each character were brilliant! The actors never mixed up any of the 21 characters that they played between them. We felt like we had seen 21 different characters in the play. No one missed a line, and here were LOTS of lines! I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone! I had never been to the Sam Bass theatre before and for those who haven't you're in for a real treat! There are 52 seats! Everyone has a great view! There is a little bar area to the left of the theatre where they offer drinks, including wine and beer. Take cash in smaller denominations as it is cash only and the suggested "donation" for drinks start with sodas for one dollar. At the interval there were some little snacks to eat, a fruit platter, cheese and crackers etc, this was complimentary, very generous and welcomed by all! All in all we had a memorable evening and we both absolutely loved it. Thank you to the Sam Bass Theatre, we will be back!!

This doesn't mean much to most people, but I think it is what made the school so welcoming and family-like in the past. In recent years, I have heard nothing but bad things, with parents and students alike feeling that the school has become more about the "business", more elitist, and more snobbish. I haven't been back since 2014 so I cannot comment on the accuracy of these statements, but something to keep in mind. This is a review for the adult classes only. I've danced for most of my life, but have not focused on any particular style. I tried out both Adult Jazz and Adult Ballet. Jazz was great - there was a thorough warmup, some across-the-floor combinations, and then an actual piece of choreography that we were going to learn and perform at the school recital! The instructor was awesome and friendly, accommodating the wide range of skills in the classroom. I didn't like ballet as much, but that's probably because I'm more used to the standardized class formats that are used at company feeder schools like Boston Ballet and Ballet Austin. There was less structure in the ballet class and - even though there were only 3 students that day - I felt like corrections were too generalized, unhelpful, and not given enough. Overall, a great place for recreational-level adult dance, but if you want to really work on and perfect your technique, I suggest you go elsewhere. The adult classes are really geared towards beginner-level individuals. Not a bad thing, just not what I needed at the time.

The moment you enter the arena doors, there is a vendor who will take your pic with Minnie & Mickey Mouse (a cut out I think it was), and vendor's selling little pink tiaras, and glowing, flickering cups full of dip-n-dots ice cream, pizza, pretzel's, and drinks. A lot for the Littles to take in! Inside the arena it's cool (but not really too cold), and big and you can just FEEL the energy. There are hawkers walking around selling all sorts of glowing, moving toys, blinking cups, and of course more food. We had tickets for aisle seats and we arrived pretty early so we ate our popcorn, cotton candy, and dipping dots (because what else are you going to eat when you are at Disney on Ice?) while waiting for everyone else to arrive and trip over us.  Once the show began, the Littles never took their eyes off the ice. I actually missed most of the show, I spent it watching all their different faces and reactions. And it was worth the ticket price.  The show was fun, and fairly fast paced through most of it with a storyline that covered many (maybe most, I can't remember, that whole my attention was diverted to the Littles) of the Disney characters, through holiday and birthday themes, and lots of color.  The Littles did get a little scared when the Halloween with Jack Skellington and The Disney Villain scene played, which was a little darker and menacing (for their age). Overall, the Littles did very well. There was some lap hopping, but not the run around, scream because they can't get down, oh look my new best friend in the row behind me, pet the strangers head, oh gawd we gotta leave trip I thought it was going to be. It was a nice adventure that ended super quietly, as they were asleep five minutes after we pulled out of the parking lot! We would definitely like to do this again :o) Tips: About 10 rows up is probably one of the best places to sit. You are up high enough to see the whole floor, but not so high that you feel removed from the action.

We had an aisle seat in the front row of section 13 (seat A1), which was nice because the characters often climbed onto the podium immediately in front of us to wave at the audience. I specifically wanted an aisle seat was because I KNEW we were likely going to have to walk around a bit or leave for breaks during the show. My daughter didn't end up needing to leave our seats other than a little before intermission and during, but we did do what many other parents and kids did and stood up, bounced around, and danced with their little ones (while being careful not to obstruct anyone's view). A lot of the audience consisted of very young children below the age of 8. In my experience, they don't really have a lot of patience and you really need to keep things fast-paced and exciting to keep them engaged. Some of the sequences were a little dragged on including Mickey's Fantasia bit with the brooms, which could've been more appealing with more lights and sparklers. Minnie's Japanese sequence had a nice set with cherry blossoms, featured beautiful music, and lit-up fans. However, this too was a bit dragged on. Intermission was 15 minutes long and well-timed. My daughter was repeating "all done" and asking to leave 3 minutes prior. The second half of the show was far more entertaining and opened with music and characters from Lilo & Stitch. She had said during intermission that she didn't want to go back to our seat, but as soon as the music started, she was the one pulling my arm and walking back towards our seat. The Disney toys in the souvenir stand were low quality and you would've probably been better off buying something ahead of time from your local toy store or online. They also sold disgustingly syrupy snow cones in souvenir cups. My daughter loves ice, so next time I'll ask for plain ice in the cute (though overpriced) Disney cup without the syrup. We saw A LOT of Disney characters including all the princesses with the exception of the cast of Frozen.

*Updating this review to mention that if I had any ounce of thought to continue with this studio,…read moreit has gone out the window after reading the owner's rude and condescending reply to my review. I reached out via email last night explaining the issue and never received a response, I suppose because they're more concerned with their public image on Yelp than helping families. After reading this response, I'm pretty disgusted with the management of this studio. I am beyond upset and disappointed in the studio after what happened to my daughter during class last night. She loved her class last year when her instructor was Nicole, but this year she got Maggie. I've watched the class as Maggie pays zero attention to my daughter and instead focuses on the other girls who are doing really well. She didn't help my daughter as she struggled to learn the dance, she would just yell at her in front of the other girls and simply tell her to keep up. Last night, My daughter got frustrated during class tonight because she felt like she wasn't keeping up with the rest of the girls, so she cried and looked very defeated when I picked her up. After class, Maggie asked to speak with me privately in which she made it very clear that she doesn't want my daughter to return to her class. She said that the other girls are having fun and working hard while my daughter is always crying. She said she only wants dancers who will have fun and work hard. I'd also like to note that I've watched Maggie's interactions with my daughter while in class and she visibly ignores her and doesn't engage with her like she does the other girls. We had a great season last year when Eliana was in Nicole's jazz class, but unfortunately this year has been very disappointing. I'm incredibly upset with Maggie and her comments to me tonight, so we don't plan on returning. I would feel too uncomfortable sending my daughter back after we were indirectly told it'd be best for the class if she doesn't return. Unfortunately, I've already paid for the recital, the costume, and the tuition for March, so I guess I'll have to eat those costs.

I have attended a year end dance recital with ages from toddlers to teenagers and was impressed (along with many other parents/families). Their care and showmanship convinced me when my daughter said: "daddy I want to dance on that stage"... that's all a parent needs to hear to know that your child enjoys what they do and how they help the kids reach that goal. The staff is always informative, the facility is clean, they have basic coffee, cakes, and refreshments for sale while you wait in the lobby, and while you wait in the lobby... you can watch your child's classes on large screen TV's from the cameras they have mounted in the room. Personally, I think this is the best way to help parents monitor the kids and isolate the instruction. You can see that the kids are NOT distracted by observing parents and you can silently smile knowing that they are getting personalized instruction. In my daughters group there are boy dancers as well, and as you know, boys play like boys; the instructors handled all situations well and kept the whole class of 10-13 students on time and focused with instruction. Our daughter is attending the Jazz/Tap/Ballet and the program really does develop her skills in dance, understanding of the dance, and allows her to just be a kid to overcome stage fright or show nerves. I am not sure how long we will attend "The Dance Works", but we will as long as our daughter wants us to bring her there.

If Cory B comes through Austin again, do yourself a favor and go see him--you won't be disappointed. Now, onto the venue and menu: Started with an espresso martini--solid but nothing fancy. Strong pour (bartender was generous!), but the balance could be better. I'd give it a 6.8/10. Tried the Love Potion next--much better, really enjoyable. Solid 7/10. Appetizer: bacon mac and cheese balls--not our favorite. They weren't very hot, had a strange texture, and just felt off overall. Around a 5.5/10 for us. My wife got chicken tenders and fries as a snack--classic frozen bar food, but perfectly fine for munching during the show. A steady 6/10. Service was excellent--our server was super attentive, quick, and on top of everything. We never waited long for drinks or food. The venue itself is great for comedy, the show was fantastic, the drinks were good, and the food was... mid. But honestly, you're not there for the food. My advice: eat a solid meal beforehand if you're picky about eats, then come ready to laugh. Overall, an awesome night and a memorable birthday. We're already looking for our next show at this spot!
