This was a bad experience from the start. The owner Michelle has no people skills, she is not…read morefriendly and very rude. Her lack of professionalism is disgusting. She never welcomed and or greeted me and my daughter in a positive way. Day one I walked in and she was behind the counter, it took 10 minutes for her to even acknowledge me. Her husband is worse. He is very rude. He never said hello at all, what he did there I cant even say. He just walks around and gives intimidating looks. The week of recital came around and the lack of communication between Michele and the parents was non existent, unless you are on Michelle's good side. . She continues to say, I will email you the picture of the wig and socks the kids will need the day of. She never sent it, apparently my daughter needed a Huge Lollypop for one of her numbers. No one ever told me to make this for my daughter. My daughters teacher never told me, Michelle the owner never told me. Fast forward to the day of the recital, a parent who volunteers to help Michelle asked me for my daughters Lollypop. Her attitude was horrible towards me when I said "I didn't know she needed this, no one told me"... Everyone is so rude, the energy is bad. This was the first dance experience for my 3year old and it was the horrible. The husband was screaming at all the kids the whole time with this condescending tone to 3-15 year old kids. He was sarcastic and answered every question with an attitude. I volunteered to help back stage to be with my 3year old and her group all in the same age. No one gave me a run down on what to do, bring or need to volunteer. I thought it will be best to bring snacks, I prepared sandwiches for them. took the drinks, took them to the restroom, helped them get ready for the show and kept my eye on them. When the recital was over I helped clean up everything my group was responsible for. I picked up trash, put chairs back, helped the kids gather their belongings. I made sure the girls I was watching went to their parents. As I was walking out Michele (The owner) stops me and yells at me in front of my daughter "You cant leave" Everything needs to be picked up and cleaned up"!! The level of attitude was beyond me. She caught me off guard. I explained to her everything is done, my group is all cleaned up. She continued to scream at me and say ("Its not just your group its everything!!) You cant leave!! She practically held me hostage. I went back to see what else I could do to help and she went wright behind me to watch and make sure I did it. I felt so bullied, I felt hopeless in front of my daughter. My daughter kept saying "mom teacher mad"? I kept saying no baby, everything is okay. This is the picture my daughter was left with. I do not recommend this place or the people there. I was there for my daughters practices and the recital first hand, I witnessed these people treating these kids horrible. If you are a parent with grown kids and just plan to drop them off and leave, this is not the place for you. The energy and vibe is so negative. Trust me, this experience made me hesitate to sign up my daughter to any dance school ever gain.. After running this experience over and over again in my mind. It was the people... Michele and her husband along with any of those mean moms with the real problem. Dance is beautiful and god willing I will find the right place for my daughter.

What a little gem in Uptown Whittier!…read more Parking is a breeze even though there is a little bit of a walk, but there is plenty and it is free. Snacks and drinks are available to purchase; wine, beer, cheese/crackers, candy, chips, water. Bathrooms are plenty and clean. But let's get to the auditorium, shall we??? It's so adorable and fancy! The architecture in this place is beautiful, although kinda funky too with it's bright colors. The first time I walked in, I literally was amazed. It feels like a "big league" playhouse, yet it is small and quaint at the same time. Seats are very comfortable with legroom and not a lot of "pardon me, 'scuse me" issues since it is laid out with short rows. I've literally sat in the vey back row of the main level and was able to see and hear perfectly! Kudos for the acoustics. The temperature in the auditorium is also comfortable; not too hot, not too cold. A wide variety of performers at the Shannon Center! Plays, musicals, entertainers, all music genres! Check out the Hawaiian series too. Need something artsy and entertaining to do? Check out their website and see all the upcoming acts.... you may just have your next date planned! Wonderful job Whittier College! Shannon Center is only list of places to "go to" when looking for something to do. CHEERS!

Came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon to catch the Whittier College Department of Theatre's…read moreproduction of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) and was more than pleasantly pleased by both the venue and the comedic performances. While, yes, I am a biased and proud aunt of the female lead, I was still able to cast my biases aside and review the venue as a whole. That said, my niece rules, my niece rules,my niece rules. First off, the parking was super convenient, free, and located on the same lot and block as the theatre. The ticket prices were fair, as they went for $15 bucks a pop. Not too shabby for 2 hours of live entertainment all while supporting the college theatre department. The theatre was on the larger end of the small side. I'm not too sure if there's a larger stage, but the one that we were in seemed to suit the play nicely. I enjoyed that aspect because I really got to appreciate the nuances of each performance, attention to detail, and engage in the communal aspect of being part of a live audience. Good stuff. Oh yeah, the restrooms were also pretty big. On the downside, I wish there would've been more variety at the snack bar during intermission. Not a big deal. Go eat after the performance at one of the many local restaurants nearby. Also, the seats were padded chairs, so be sure to shift your position after some time. Overall, loved it! It's a shame I hadn't attended any previous productions, but rest assured that I'll be returning for more. Support the kids, support the arts!

The commute alone was extremely difficult--about an hour during rush hour traffic--which made getting to class very stressful. When my daughter told me she no longer wanted to continue, I contacted the studio hoping we could come to some kind of reasonable agreement since she had only been enrolled for two weeks. Instead, I was told I was required to give 30 days notice. What was frustrating is that I do not recall signing or even receiving the studio's policies beforehand. In fact, the policies were not sent to me until February 6th, after I had already emailed them on February 2nd about canceling. The most upsetting part of the experience happened during my daughter's last class. She asked what time the class was going to end, and the instructor/director sarcastically told her "bye." My daughter is seven years old, and she came out of the class crying because she felt embarrassed and hurt. No child should be spoken to that way by an adult, especially in a children's activity where kids are supposed to feel supported and encouraged. I understand that studios have policies, but there should also be transparency and some level of understanding when a child has only attended for a short time. Between the lack of clear communication about policies and the way my daughter was treated, this experience was extremely disappointing.

I left some items while practicing at the studio, and reached out to the owner, Laura, to see if anyone found it. They responded immediately and told me they would let me know if anyone saw anything. After this, I reached out for an update each day for 7 days and they effectively ghosted me. I was extremely worried and attempted to contact them over text, email, and DM, seeing as they would not respond to me anywhere and confirm that they had found my items. Because this was an extremely frustrating situation with no resolution from the owner, I left a Google review at the time that this happened, at which point the owner contacted not me, but my coach, and made it extremely clear that they would neither return my items, nor confirm that they even found them, unless I took down my review. Despite making it very clear that these items were important to me and I simply wanted confirmation that they were safe, the owner instead withheld that information and withheld my things from me until I took down an honest review of her business. The studio is not a bad location to dance, but do so at your own risk as the owner does not care about the people who come to their studio, does not communicate, and will go to any length (except being a better business owner) to keep her image.

I feel so fortunate that the HIC concert series came to the Downey Theater. There were 8 musicians that performed traditional Hawaiian music. The first set led by Patrick Landeza and two musicians on guitar and keyboard; followed by David Kamakahi, Jon Yamasato and Kawika Kahiapo. I especially enjoyed the casual atmosphere, each musician spoke and gave little insights on the songs performed. They spoke of the history and meaning of the lyrics.
