Imagine this. You are walking down Main Street USA in Cartersville, Georgia. You have left the Christmas Store, walked across the tracks, and back to your car. You would love a nice craft beer, but this does not seem like the right town to find anything really spectacular. There is a handwritten sandwich board with the words "Come Hell or High Water" written on it. You walk into an olive oil shop and head to the back and ... a hidden taproom?
Yes, this is the Cartersville speakeasy of taprooms. And, yes, it has some beers from top ranked breweries like Mason Ale Works, Toppling Goliath, The Veil, Mast Landing, Parrish - oh, stop it Greg.
And the place did, kind of, start as a speakeasy. During COVID there were hard restrictions on how many people could congregate. But Georgians, being rebels, wanted to get out for a good brew. Bingo! Come Hell or High Water (never asked if they were going to open Come Hell or High Water, so that is a question for another trip?). They closed the door that leads into the shop and started pouring.
Talking to the person that orders the beer, they also have a unique method of ordering brews. SHe looks at Untappd and tries to buy up everything that is in the 4s first, then the upper 3s. You won't find many, if any, low ranked beers. And you can check the list ahead of time, as they are on Untappd as a verified venue. Her distributor has her at the top of his list, as he knows she will buy the best beers in quantity and sell through them
There are 12 beers on tap. They also have a monthly mug club, that includes a free beer each week, special events, and a growler fill each month. You also get discounted cans, wtih bigger discounts if you get 12 oz cans. And you can mix a 4 or 6 pack. I was beer running for my beer share group and saved the cost of the membership the first time I grabbed brews.
You are not staying in Cartersville? Fine, are you driving past? If so, it is about 10 minutes or so off I-75, so a half hour stop and you can bring home some top notch brews. I was traveling back and forth from Florida to Tennessee and this was a regular stop for me. And the prices are better than both Ocala and Nashville for a bottle shop. read more
