You gotta check out "The Universal Sphere." It's a unique cinematic experience inside a 39 foot ball. It's free and it's fabulous.
Just being inside the building's massive street level floor is itself a wow experience. There is also a comfortable cafe just up the very large escalator (across from The Sphere.)
Next, head over to the 19th street side of the building. Go into the Four Seasons entrance, then bear right to take the express elevator to the 60th floor!
The elevator is a little tricky. Here's how it works:
1. Wave your hand in front of the digital panel area.
2. Press your finger on the digital bar for the 60th floor. If you do this properly, the digital panel will tell you which elevator to step into.
3. Step inside and that's it. The elevator will soon take you RAPIDLY skyward.
Yes, it goes fast... like that crazy Willie Wonka elevator. (Really!)
One other important thing... this is a GLASS elevator. If you suffer from any kind of height anxiety, this might be difficult for you. I happen to have a slight case of this and I found that kneeling down and being near the elevator door made this ride okay for me.
(Your ears will probably pop.)
At the top... it's beautiful. And it is absolutely a wow experience.
To your left is the way to the incredible JG Skyhigh lounge. Wow!
Whatever it costs to eat here, it doesn't matter - because being here is so stunning.
(Yes, you can go up there just to look around. And all staff members are welcoming.)
The building has another restaurant on the ground floor called "Vernick Fish." During this visit, I skipped seeing this eatery, but I imagine it must be really good.
The Comcast Technology Center is the kind of building that has the best of everything where every staff member you encounter is absolutely polite. I can also say there is an abundant security presence here. And everything is Spic & Span clean.
If you want to experience The Universal Sphere, google it and make your reservation. Or if you are already there, just ask their friendly Sphere attendants if you can get in on the next show. (They run about every 10 minutes.)
If you want to visit the restaurant on the 60th floor and don't think you can handle the glass elevator, talk to a Four Seasons doorman and see if he can arrange a trip up on the freight elevator. This will involve a security officer accompanying you. (If you're doing this, it probably would be a nice gesture to tip the doorman for this assistance. Maybe the security officer too.)
In summary, even if you are only visiting the public spaces inside the Comcast Technology Center, it's still a terrific excursion. I highly recommend it. read more
