Just plain awesome! Lots of cool planes to look at....Lots of detailed info from wars of yesteryear. Super friendly people and a great selection of gift shop finds. The tour can be guided or free roam...being on a time crunch we chose to roam and ended up spending more time there than we thought. Definitely worth the visit if your in the area.

Had no idea this was here. We were able to visit because of the sunflower summer program. My husband is really into planes ands loved it.

I expected a few old relics scattered around the museum, but this was certainly not the case. They have a vast collection of combat aircraft from every era. Since I've been reading a lot about WWI aircraft, I was delighted to see how many aircraft they had. It takes about three hours to see everything in the collection. They also have a well-stocked gift shop. Paul gave us a personal tour of both hangars and the aircraft outside. Another treat was meeting volunteer John Plum, ninety-two years old. John is a retired American Airlines captain, and so am I. We were both based at ORD, but we never met. John and Paul are just two of a dedicated crew of volunteers that make this a delightful experience.

I took my grandson. Wide variety of planes both original and scale replicas. The flight simulator was one of his favorite experiences. The gentleman doing it was so sweet, patient and knowledgeable. The number of planes in the hangers is very impressive. They are everywhere! On the ground and above.

I stopped on today, due to a promise I made to myself that I would one day tour. I loved it. I have always had a fear of flying and the history of the planes and the wars that were fought with them was so impressive. The battleship display was my favorite and the blue angels plane. If you haven't been here, I highly recommend it. And it is not a modest museum, I think for topeka, it's very informative.

Not for "air combat," but real cute.

If the subject matter piques your interest and you have a couple of hours, I would definitely recommend this stop. Plentiful free parking and the modest but clean facilities, along with all of the friendly volunteers get you started, with plenty to see. To be accurate, I'd say a bit more than half of the planes were in a storage/restoration hanger, but still of good interest and gave some overview information. There are quite a few art pieces, along with scale models, a computer flight simulator, and lots of history on different military events and personal stories, too. If you would like to see a impressive yet modest collection, and a bit of local history, I would definitely recommend the Combat Air Museum.

They gave us a scavenger hunt at the front desk that takes you through the whole museum and if you finish it you earn a fun souvenir button or snall toy :) Even if history isn't your thing this museum is vibrant colorful fun and informative and is a true gem and a worthy day trip for any and all.

This entire building taught me nothing about Kansas.

There are also sensory stations that encourage imagination and creative exploration. A brand-new indoor water area is set to open on June 10th, which will be an exciting addition. The outdoor space is just as impressive, featuring nature trails, a sandbox, water play area, treehouse, bikes, and more. We especially appreciated the separate toddler-only zones that keep the littlest ones safe while they play. With so much to do, we easily spent around 3 hours exploring. You're welcome to pack a lunch and enjoy it at one of the indoor picnic tables or outside in the peaceful pollinator garden. Highly recommend for a fun, interactive, and affordable family outing!

I like that adults have to be with children in order to enter. We decided to go ahead and get a year long membership. With the membership I could put my grandchildren on it and they can even go with their parents if we are not with them at no charge. There are also workers spread throughout the area who are so very kind and do a great job at keeping the place picked up and organized.

The exhibits were amazing. The videos and interactive media were all functioning. DYK there were actually five cases that were combined and argued in front of the Supreme Court in 1954, combined they were known as the historic Brown vs Topeka Board of Education that ended segregation of schools in the U.S. in 1954. The Hall of Courage is an interesting exhibit that shows videos of discrimination on both sides. It attempts to mimic the feeling that folks back in the 1950s and the Jim Crow South had to deal with. The building also has a recreation of a kindergarten in Topeka during the 1950. Where teachers believed that play was the highest form of learning. So children could let their minds run free and creativity develop their curious minds. The Legacy Room has plenty of exhibits. I particularly liked the Wall of Courage, that highlight post-Brown heroes, and the Protest in Music exhibit that had songs from Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, to Public Enemy. I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to learn more about the case and be on the grounds where the one of the cases originated. This location presents the information well, and visitors cannot help but feel proud about the event.
