It's right on Massachusetts Street just to the outskirts of downtown. I saw toys from my youth. I saw more recent toys. I saw stuffed animals and T-shirts. Check out the pictures because my descriptions are not gonna do this place justice. The folks that were working there were extremely helpful and friendly. If you're anywhere near Lawrence Kansas, make sure you stop in and patronize this small business. You'll be surprised what you'll find. I'm going back to Ohio with a smile on my face. WOW! There are not words to describe this facility. I am amazed that a facility like this is so…read moreclose to me. For starters, it is a beautiful building. Visually stunning. The giant flag sails above a lovely reflecting pond T the entrance. The walkway to the entrance is simple but allows for reflection. There are many informative and interesting displays. There are permanent displays and temporary exhibits. The permanent displays revolve around the life of Senator Bob Dole and World War II. The temporary displays usually focus on a contemporary issue of interest to the public. Both types of displays are well done and have tremendous visual appeal. I have enjoyed all the displays I've seen at the Dole Center. One of the things I love the most, though, is the impressive guest speakers they host. There have been world leaders, members of Congress, former presidents, world renowned journalists and the like to speak here. They also regularly have study sessions for the public. The events here are free and they encourage public participation. The Dole Center holds events all the time and they change monthly. They have running series of informational activities and I appreciate the variety. Additionally, they have an extensive archive of research documents for the public to use. One of the mate redials can be checked out and you must use gloves to handle the papers. I appreciate the opportunity to use these documents in research. Just recently they had a guest book for the public to sign for President Bush's funeral. They were forwarding the book to his family and I applaud this offering, I got quite emotional on my visit. Great place to learn more about history, politics, and current events. You will not be disappointed.

The highlights are tons of memorabilia, a beam from the world Trade Center and 2 stained glass pieces. Word has been out on this place for over a decade now, but it's always a treat to experience…read more One year way back when, they had issues with crazy, CRAZY traffic and people parking alongside the highways all around. Everything has been remedied, as far as I can tell, and it's a pleasant stop if you can time it right. (Typically around Labor Day weekend and the following week). We took our girls for the first time and they enjoyed it. They had to get used to the fact there are boatloads of bees, but the bees are in their own, symbiotic world at that point. They have a few fields, all a very short drive from each other. This last trip up we went to their little general store and ended up having an impromptu dinner from a BBQ truck they had up that weekend. Just a magical night that unfolded with these vibrant yellow flowers all around us against a dark gray sky. If you're too early, it doesn't hit the same, and if you're too late, you'll know it. For two to three weeks around Labor Day, Grinter Farms is the place to be and the sunflowers are the main attraction. Family and engagement photos, candid pics, selfies, panoramics and more. It's fun for all ages. The main field, which is the smaller of the two, has a small store for gifts and collectibles. The second field, about a quarter mile down the road, is made for exploring.
