I had never been to a landfill, that is, deep inside the crater on the edge of the action, flanked…read moreby busy bulldozers and hovering seagulls. But I was tasked with helping family remove roughly a ton of non-recyclable material. If you possess the hauling capability and personal energy, this is a great way to save $400-$500 dollars. Instead of paying an exorbitant fee to have a trash company place and retrieve an industrial dumpster at your property, you simply go to the Mesquite Landfill entrance gate, have your vehicle weighed, and pay $175. You then traverse a circuitous path on dirt roads around, over, and into the landfill, back up your truck and trailer, and dump your unwanted materials by hand. It is that simple. Just remember that you'll need a truck, SUV, Jeep, or some-such vehicle with off-road capability. I strongly suggest bringing a mask, gloves, and eye protection, and to wear shoes and clothing that you won't mind parting with. I wore boots that, afterwards, I immediately bagged and gave to my local shoe repair once back in Vegas. If you have a weak stomach, this is not for you. Skip breakfast that morning for you will struggle not to vomit. The smell at ground zero of this or any landfill defies articulation. It is unlike any hellish sour stench you could possibly imagine: a general population beatdown and relentless gang rape of your olfactory senses, a miasmic stew of rotting roadkill scrapings, medical waste, retirement home diapers, slaughterhouse refuse, chocolated kitty litter, Diddy CDs, expired Frosty mix, Harris banners, and capped collegiate washouts who couldn't pay their bookies. It is a landfill in Texas after all, Hades' Anus, not the pastry case at Dean & Deluca in Manhattan. Thank god we did this in November and not July. The staff at Waste Management Mesquite Landfill were very helpful.

I know, a dump is a dump. But my reason for the 5-star review is the smell! While it may look &…read morefeel like a typical landfill, there's no smell! This is the only dump I've ever been to in my 37 years on planet Earth that didn't have me wanting to puke while being there. I don't know what their methods are but to me that's amazing! I've been a few times but I had to dispose my old bed recently which caused me to make an appearance there. The dump is actually in Creedmoor (It says Buda on Yelp) & FM 1327 is a quiet & pleasant little road to travel along. The nature preserve surrounding the landfill is also pleasant to look at & is kind of cool that the landfill is trying to make good use of the land surrounding it. The overall cost of disposing my old bed + large boxes left behind from the new bed ended up being around $67. That with the $45 U-Haul pickup rental + gas was still cheaper than paying the furniture store's $189 disposal fee. The employees I dealt with were friendly, had good attitudes, & from an outsider's perspective they seemed to be well taken care of by the company they work for.

Their single‑operator trucks will not move a bin if a car is nearby, even on public streets where homeowners have no control. The only remedies offered are insufficient: a couple of extra bags next week or paying double for a return trip. This is not customer service -- it's a penalty for their own cost‑cutting. Speaking with a supervisor confirmed they have no flexibility or willingness to help. Very disappointing.
