I recently had the privilege of doing difficult business with Tommy at Green Guy Recycling. The experience can be characterized by integrity at it's best. I experienced professionalism, courtesy, competency, accountability and more. This business checks all the boxes for me. It is locally owned, delivers high quality customer service, and services out environment. I cannot recommend more highly. Dr. Judith Thompson, New Braunfels read more

I've done my share of metal recycling, trying different businesses around the Austin area and I have to say Green Guy is the most friendly, helpful and organized of all of those that I have tried. From the time I arrived to the time I checked out I met the most helpful and courteous employees even thought it was 100+ degrees out. It reminded me of what customer service supposed to look like. Considering all that, I was very satisfied with the amount I received for what I brought in. read more

, and the rest of the crew were outstanding and took great care of me! Will definitely be back others about them

I rolled up on this place by accident and only gave it 4 stars cause the road around it so raggedy I barely wanted to go on it, but there was an exit sign and I only went on it cause I was tryin' to get on other side of it, but it didn't lead to no street, only to a dead end and a lil' house, so I had to back down raggedt road to go out.. but this really cool dude named MITCH answered my questions when I stopped to ask. I think he works there. He was very informative and helpful. So I would come back to recycle aluminum cans, but the rest I guess you have to vhave tons, but I would use the plane. I just know now not to go down "Raggedy Road". read more

I have used 3 different waste removal companies and the reason I switched to Green Guy was due to my experience with untimely pick ups and not being able to get in touch with said companies team members. After calling Green Guy they were responsive, friendly, clear with expectations and procedures and delivered a dumpster within 24 hours. They also were able to pick up in the same timely fashion time and time again. I enjoy Green Guys customer service and business model so much I used them for my personal home build in addition to my company use. I would recommend this company over any other competitor any day. read more

Great local option for recycling. Easy to get in and out of and the two employees I dealt with were very nice and helpful. Excited to see all the stuff they take so I can try to use the trash as little as possible. The whole recycling system isn't perfect but it does work for a lot of things. Give it a try, if you think one individual can't make a difference you've never spent the night in a tent with a mosquito! read more

Meet Kyle, the Green Guy. He recycles. A lot. Kyle runs this cool recycling center behind the once-upon-a-time WalMart-turned-Tractor Supply Company in San Marcos. It's hidden behind the San Mar Plaza strip center, but it's a great find. You don't buy things here. You take them here to be disposed of responsibly. Things like a two-ton 125 kVA UPS system and 60 car-size batteries. (Well, so he actually came and picked those up.) Or airplanes. Yep, I saw a small passenger airplane fuselage there a few weeks ago. (Let's hope it didn't crash land there.) Or, if you're like most of us, Kyle takes your cardboard, your aluminum, your paper, your plastic and he keeps it out of the landfills. And he employs people to help him and the local economy. He'll even take your oil filters, your air conditioners, and your refrigerators for a small fee. I so wish I had known Kyle when he named his business. Don't get me wrong, I think 'Green Guy' is a great name. But I would have chosen 'Good Guy' instead. Kyle's a good guy. And a green guy. read more

First time To take recycling to the Green Guys and what a great and easy experience it was. They have staff all over the place ready and willing to help, they are friendly and outgoing, and they can take almost anything you bring. There is no charge to do household recycling. They do pay for cans and bottles in bulk. Joey Harkrider greeted our car upon arrival and gave us a rundown of how to dispose of our items. He is friendly, funny and went out of his way to help us out. They have a very convenient set up to pull in, offload from your car or truck, and be on your way. I'm so glad to have found this location and will bring all my recyclables here in the future. read more

Excellent company with a very helpful staff, that provides a wide variety of recycling services. Fair and honest, and a longtime San Marcos locally owned business. read more

This place is great for recycling! They buy scrap metal and aluminum but you can drop off your recycling items 24 hours a day! What a great convenience! read more

With no at home recycling pick up for my area, I was thrilled to find Green Guy so close to home. Sure, I have to let the recyclables accumulate at home, but it's hardly a chore to take them in. Drop off any time I would like to see them accepting loose plastics... read more

Been recycling stuff here for years. Although I never dealt with the staff, I know from talking to a local artist friend that they are nothing but friendly and helpful. They recycle *every* kind of glass, which is more than I can say for several centers in Austin. Caveats: * Bring headphones after they close. The recorded message playing on a loop during off-hours is admittedly necessary, but also unbelievably annoying. * Watch the skies. If it happens to start raining when you're in the area or it just got done raining, the lack of any kind of cover or asphalt makes things pretty difficult. In the first place you'll get soaked and you'll quickly not care if your recycling becomes just regular trash. In the second, you'll bring home some Green Guy mud on your shoes. read more

Trying to get rid of old tires? Random black smithing metal? Trying to hide your social drinking problem from your parents when they show up to your dorm room? Green guy is your place. I remember when this place opened and our Girl Scout troop toured the recycling plant. These guys buy and sell metal, old appliances, take in used car oil and batteries, cardboard, and more. If your trash company won't recycle or take large items, take it down to Green Guy. read more

We took a trailer full of different type of scrap metal here yesterday. These guys were so helpful! We were dreading the job, assuming it'd be a major pain in the neck and take several hours. They helped us sort it, and the their system of weighing it all was very efficient. We were in & out of there in an hour. I don't think I'll ever have that much metal to recycle again, but we'll definitely be back! Our boys just realized they can collect cans for money! read more

I've known Kyle since he and Steve Smith(RIP beautiful)started GG. I used to love going out there and gawking at all the hot shirtless hippy men. You too Kevin. Even had a baby with one of them! But seriously they are the best. We are so lucky to have gg and people who care about the planet on a deep do it all kind of level. Recently I had a disgusting rotting meat filled broken freezer. They captured the freon so I could haul it to the dump. I know why people dump them on back roads now. But they did it and I am as usual very great-full. read more

This place was great. Highly organized and friendly staff. I was in and out in 20 minutes. For someone to pick up my dishwasher 2 ovens and ride on lawn mower that where all broken they wanted about $150 i brought it all there and made $60. I will be going again when i have another load. read more

Having grown up in the reduce, reuse, recycle generation, I get twitchy when I can't recycle something. I can still recite the song from Rocko's Modern Life about how "You need to R-E-C-Y-C-L-E, recycle!" I'm the girl who sees someone throw a plastic bottle away and fishes it out of the trash to recycle on my own time. I was dismayed when we moved to San Marcos to discover they had no city recycling plan. However, I was elated to discover that Green Guy Recycling exists. You have to bring your recycling to them, but it's pretty conveniently located behind the Tractor Supply Company on Hwy 80, though a little hard to find your first time there. This place can get hot and dusty during the summer and cold and muddy in the winter, but that all seems like a small price to pay to have a clean and green conscience at the end of the day. My one gripe is that they don't take all shapes of plastic containers. Containers that are wider on top than on the bottom cannot be recycled there, which makes me sad since we eat a lot of yogurt. Otherwise, this place rocks my occasionally dirty liberal hippie socks off. read more
