After brunch elsewhere we headed to the Columns for a cocktail or two...we ended up spending the whole afternoon there! We sat at the inside bar and enjoyed talking with the bartenders and other customers at the bar. I'm a Negroni fan and their coffee Negroni is fantastic! The coffee takes a bit of the edge off and makes it go down easily. I also enjoyed an espresso martini and a special hot coffee they had with orange Jameson, a spiced simple syrup and another liquor. Wanted to have a drink at the bar. It was not busy. Girl at the front entrance asked us what we were wanting to do as this is a bar and we wanted a drink. She told us we were not welcome to have a drink we needed a reservation to walk into the empty bar to have a drink. She asked us to leave because we were not welcome to get a drink. Apparently as empty as they were we were not welcome to order a drink at the bar. The manager actually followed us to the empty bar and told us to leave and we were not welcome to order a drink or hang out on the property anywhere. She told us to leave the property. We of course walked out and took our business elsewhere. I would never recommend anyone to come here . Apparently they have plenty of business and don't need mine. I love the look and feel of this place. came for happy hour, but there is no happy hour on Fridays. I wanted a drink anyways because of the nice interior of the bar, very dim and old fashioned. The bartender that helped me was extremely friendly and a great mixologist. She talked while preparing drinks and even helped me choose a drink, answering questions I had. I had been admiring the building for years, often passing by on the streetcar and envying the diners on the front porch. I never knew it was possible to eat there if you weren't a guest of the hotel, but upon finding out it's open to anyone, I had to try it. My friend and I visited for lunch and cocktails and were seated outside along the left of the building. Sadly the kitchen was closed when we arrived and we were obliged for wait about 20 minutes until they reopened. I hadn't eaten yet so I got kinda tipsy on one cocktail. It was the jungle bird that I tried on the server's recommendation, and it was one of the best cocktails I've had in the city. Pineapple rum, campari, and lime--delicious yet strong. Had a nice fizzy feel to it. To eat, I got the French fries with aioli dip and my friend got the burger. Both good. The burger was on the small side and the fries were plentiful so I shared. Overall, a fun experience, and I'm thinking I'll bring friends and family here when they visit from out of town. The interior of the hotel is so lush and beautiful, it is not to be missed. read more

Love the whole vibe of this place! The decor is magical, and the food and drinks were exquisite. We dined on the candlelit porch, which had perfect ambiance for a warm Tuesday evening. The atmosphere was lovely, our stay was disappointing. Yes, it was festival time and noise will be expected, but not across from our room on the 2nd floor. The 1st party going on went until midnight on the balcony and an adjacent room, and the party carried out into the hallway. Another day had a DJ going in the same area for 5 hours along with loud party goers. We had no advance knowledge of the internal parties right by our room. Room Service- with the party going on the first night, we just wanted to eat in our room so we ordered room service. One of the front desk guys brought our meal up, literally handed us our two plates. No tray, no silverware, no napkins, just here's your two plates. I have never experienced such stupidity. These people should be trained or at least know better! The fries were so salty we couldn't eat most of them. The Room - pretty room, except for the bathroom. The tub had two very large pieces ripped off the inner surface, and the drain stop didn't work, so you couldn't take a bath. Why they don't fix this is beyond me. In order to take a shower, you had to turn the tub knob to shower, okay, but water goes all over the place out of control while doing so. Once the shower is going it's just a slight dribble. Double Charged and then some - We paid in advance, and were charged while staying there (got that refunded by the front desk) and were charged another 500 upon leaving. We had to call to get that refund. All the other issues were trivial but they really added up and made our visit crappy. read more

I took the St. Charles Streetcar to the Garden District for a tour of the neighborhood. At the end of the line I decided to take a walk back for a closer look at the hotels. All of them were beautiful, but I decided to stop here. I was drawn in by the alignment of the palm trees that encased the hotel. Columns is a 19-room boutique hotel, with event space, a magnificent mahogany bar, a coffee bar, and a very good kitchen. Riding the St Charles trolly line, you see the impressive building, and the Garden and Patio are so inviting. I highly recommend making time to sit and absorb the Columns' upscale atmosphere, while enjoying an adult beverage. I understand the cocktails are outstanding. Today, the table had French Toast ($17), Chicken Schnitzel ($17), a Columns Burger ($16), and French Quiche ($14). Everything was quite good. Service was fast and friendly (Thank You, Andromeda!). We washed brunch down with Campari Spritzs ($11), Aperol Spritzs ($10), and spicy Bloody Marys ($14) from the bar - all while savoring the beautiful Columns' setting. This is an upscale hotel off of St Charles with beautiful antique furnishings inside. You feel like you are stepping back in time a bit when you step inside. It attracts a mix of tourists and locals. Great outdoor porch and patio seating for a cocktail to cool off after a long day. The food menu is a bit limited and pricey. The columns has been undergoing renovation, but the new, extended outdoor patio is open and Fabulous! They closed off the center entry and moved it to the extreme right. Masks required while not at your table. The landscaping is super lush and it feels like an exotic vacay. The hotel, of course, is lovely to take in and the service is attentive. We ordered (pricey) drinks, fries and a fried fish sandwich to split. The fries were awesome and plentiful! We were pleased. The fish sandwich has a tempura batter and a tomato? Chutney of some sort? OMG! SO, so good!!! Really surprised us! I was sad we'd ordered one to split. I want one now. So glad they are in walking distance! May have to go once a week now. I was looking for a spot with outdoor drinks last week because I had cousins visiting. And I had forgotten that the Columns acquired new owners in 2019. (Yes the historic buildings here, acquire owners rather than the other way around). So I walked over and grabbed us a table in the garden. And yes they are still taking names for reservations for contact tracing so good them. Also the staff was masked at all times. The garden is lovely as ever with an upgraded brick patio and a completely unnecessary (on a early June evening) fire pit. The porch still has a number of large tables like it always has had. It looks like the bar isn't actually open to patron seating yet (pandemic rules) and the double parlor room had the doors closed. The front room is now their coffee/breakfast area for a grab and go experience if you're walking down the Avenue. The left side of the 1st floor which previously had been mostly unfurnished to facilitate it's use as a live music/reception space is now fully furnished with a variety of upholstered furniture. Let's be honest the atmosphere has always been 10 stars at the Columns but now the whole experience has been upgraded. So far I've only had drinks but I'll definitely be back for their small but interesting food offerings. One day maybe I'll stay in one of their 20 guest rooms... hopefully on someone else's tab. read more

Go check with the Iron lady......... Iron Lady appears and indicates we can't be seated until the hootch is cleaned up. HMMMM........... Finally seated at corner hootch. Table unsteady and ready to spill anything on it Need a hostess to take your order. Wait 10 minutes for a drink order while an idle barkeep across the bar looks elsewhere. Drinks delayed because the idle barkeep is "REAL BUSY". Except the drinks were already poured and waiting at the other end of the bar. Columns is absolutely stunning. We took a walk around the building before the restaurant opened and it almost felt like we were being transported back in time. It was an incredibly authentic space and we didn't want to leave! We were seated outside on the gorgeous patio for our experience. We ordered two glasses of rosé and it was lovely. We checked the bottle online and the price we paid for a glass of wine was more than entire bottle itself cost! Worth it though in this case. We got little mushroom dumplings and, while soooo delicous, it was truly one bite and a half per person for $14 or so dollars. We knew we were there for the experience and atmosphere, so all of this was fine, but we opted not to stay for a full meal. I definitely recommend coming here for a drink or two and make sure you walk around the building and take it all in. It's a lovely place. read more

You can come here with friends or family and have an amazing time just looking around you and the venue. The food? It's okay. Star 1: How was the Service and Atmosphere? Top notch. Great service, friendly folks, and fast delivery of dishes in a setting that is, as mentioned, stunning. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Pretty reasonable brunch prices across the board with smaller sandwiches hovering above $10.00 and larger plates up in the mid-$20s. Star. Stars 3 & 4: How was the food? It was - okay. The breakfast sandwich wasn't particularly memorable, and the fried chicken left quite a bit to be desired with dried out chicken in a city where that's pretty much unheard of. Other side dishes like breakfast potatoes, were standard, but none of this blew me away. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? The venue is beautiful, but not for the food. We've been visiting the Columns for over 18 years. We've had great visits and tons of experiences. Today we were sitting OUTSIDE and had issues with the new manager. Apparently we were told to leave because so Wine spoke of vibrators. When confronted with the situation (after asking all surrounding guests) they had no answer other than get the fuck out. The manager was a total bitch after calling me a racist and a sexist when I was defending a group of 5 women??? They've merged with a new group (columns) and want more business. The peppers were good but the management was horrific. Pass on the 20 minute Uber ride and find a place closer to home. BTW, the new management won't allow you to visit the American Horror Story area anymore. Don't plan to sit by the fireplace and warm your feet cuz they will assume you're an asshole. read more

I so, so loved this place! Probably my favorite dining out moment in my latest trip to New Orleans. We came to get a quick drink, but left having sampled four appetizers. Every bite of food was delicious (loved the carrot dish and the sweet potato dish especially), and our drinks were great as well. The artwork and atmosphere really make this place as well. This review is for the dining outdoors restaurant experience at night... And oh by the way did I mention its 'rona time?!?... My ole lady and I came here on a Saturday night recently. We were excited for the new experience (place went under new management this spring, and opened up new patio for additional outdoor seating...) They have a VERY limited menu. Not much to choose from when it comes to main courses/entrees... That said, I had the burger, and it just wasn't very good. They were trying to be too creative / too fancy. The appetizer was better. The drinks were better. This is a good place to come for drinks and and app, and that's it. They need to do better with the food menus, lighting etc... C+ overall. read more

Absolutely beautiful historic home. I highly recommend visiting the bar or having a coffee on the patio. Unfortunately I can not recommend this as a hotel. We stayed 3 nights and there were weddings/events every evening with LOUD (yelling/singing/screaming) revelers on the second floor by our room out well after midnight. We did not get any rest due to the noise and departed with tired puffy eyes. Come for the day to this lovely location, but sleep elsewhere!! read more

Loved this chic spot for a fun date night! The inside is so cool-great ambiance, and food/drinks were yummy and unique. We tried the coffee Negroni (awesome-tasted like espresso but still a touch tart from the Negroni and somehow still bright orange), lavender cold press (more if a standard coffee drink, yummy), rattlesnake (lemony with absinthe, if you like that somewhat licorice flavor), and jungle bird (asked for it straight up at recommendation of our server, which was delicious, only slightly sweet and refreshing). For food we tried the marinated olives (nice sized bowl of them-served warm in a bath of oil, mustard seed and orange zest), and the burrata (delicious creamy goodness mixed with a pea purée that was surprisingly good-even served cold which was a surprise and contrasted well with the warm toasty bread). We will definitely be back to try more of their awesome menu items! read more
