I have bowled on and off at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace for years. It used to open be 24 hours, but due to the Pandemic it now open certain hours. I have enjoyed bowling there and this year for Franklin County Special Olympics bowling practice. It is 64 lanes, the largest in Central Ohio. There are some chairs that need to be reupholstered. They have done a great job updating the facilities over the years. It did host PBA tournaments in 1980's on NBC and ABC. The Columbus Square Bowling Palace is the Country Club of Bowling Centers and a great place to bowl for fun or league bowling.

    False advertising

False advertising. They advertise a Sunday bowling special between 9am-noon for "any 2 hour block". The special implies that as long as you get there and pay by noon, you can bowl for 2 hours for $15. The lady at the counter today told me that you have to be there by 10 am to get the full 2 hours, and if you get there any time after 10 am, you don't get the full 2 hours and it cuts off at noon, which makes zero sense. She was either wrong about the special, or they are false advertising and want to get people in the door to charge them $9/game.

I gave it one star because the food is good don't waste your time on bowling. Spend more time talking to the people to fix the damn thing!

Got together with other Yelpers to go bowling and what a great night we had together! We got to meet Bill, the owner of the place, and he came out to greet us and give us a little history of his business and welcome us to his establishment. We enjoyed some delicious pizza (cheese, veggie, and meat pizza) and drinks and, of course, bowling! I asked Bill if he would bring out the bowling ball rail, which is normally for kids, but I thought it would be fun to bring that out since it didn't seem that anybody was familiar with it. We had fun putting our ball on the rail and letting it go a whopping 5 mph down the lane only to bounce off the pins or fall into the gutter. My group bowled 4 games each, and used muscles we didn't know we had! The bowling alley is very clean and has lots of lanes and great lighting. I loved the digital boards to keep track of the scores. We used the intercom a few times due to some user errors, and the people working there were very prompt and fixed the problems right away. I really like how the bowling balls were all in a central location with a color guide on the different weights of the balls. That made finding a ball super easy, and while bowling, the color of your ball was easy to locate. We had a great time!

The open bowling rates are a bit high compared to other alleys in town, but the beauty of the Palace is that it is ALWAYS open.

We were assigned Lane 48 and paid for two hours of bowling. Almost immediately, there were issues with the pin system. it wouldn't recognize pins correctly and would remove pins that hadn't been hit. On top of that, the lane repeatedly freezing . We had to go to the front desk about five to ten times within the first hour just to report that the lane wasn't working. I eventually asked to be moved to another lane 47. While that lane was slightly better, it had its own problems, repeatedly shutting off entirely as if it were losing power. Once again, we were forced to walk back and forth to the front desk over and over. It honestly felt like we spent more time walking to report issues than we did actually bowling. We also tried using the microphone for assistance, but never received a response. A smaller issue, but still worth mentioning, is that the bowling shoes have been changed and are now very difficult to tighten, which made them uncomfortable to use. The second and third photos show how the lane would completely shut down. We ended up leaving early during the third game because we were tired of constantly dealing with broken equipment. It felt like a waste of money, and overall, I'm very disappointed with what used to be a place I enjoyed coming to.

I brought with me my current bowling ball as reference because I was thinking of purchasing a new ball. For the record, this Black Web 2.0 was drilled by one "pro shop" and at the suggestion of another bowler I got my ball checked by another "pro shop". The second pro shop made some minor changes, with the hopes of improving my game. I took it to Toms the pro shop, after picking out another ball, Tom immediately noticed the ball I brought in was off by a 1/2 inch on both finger holes. After purchasing and trying out my new ball which was 30 dollars cheaper than the shop that I was going to buy it at, but it was closed on Sunday. It made a huge difference throwing a quality ball that fits properly. I drove 90 minutes to check this place out, I left my ball to be fixed and will be back next week to pick it up.

I thought it was odd they had a young man stand on the wall and watch us the whole two hours we bowled. He wasn't present and watching anyone else until we were given our lane assignment. You asked how did I know that..... I arrived 15 minutes early before our large party arrived. I saw the young man, he was in the back and not standing around watching the other customers. Watch on sir but it did make us feel unwelcome. After we left I came back 10 minutes later to see if he had moved to another area watching customers. He wasn't present NOWHERE to be found. Interesting! !!! The kitchen staff was kind and seem to take pride with getting my large order correct, and they did get it right. I left a pretty hefty tip. The music playing is not of the 21st century. It's more of a 1970 playlist and video. Not a bad experience but could have been better.

Okay food, okay drinks and fun spot to play ball. Since then, the owner, Ed, and his team have committed to making this place a premier spot in Grandview. When I worked near Grandview, I would constantly drag my coworkers here for their fantastic happy hour. They have a pretty good draft beer list and they are all half price during happy hour. Match that with $3.50 well drinks and $4.25 doubles, you can have a great time AND a small tab. On top of the great drink specials, Prestons took over the kitchen a few years ago, and they make some pretty amazing burgers. If you're with a group that's not too picky, grab the burger box which includes 10 burgers and fries for $50. For the icing on the cake, they have renovated the entire interior of the bar (the bathrooms could still use some work), added a removable dome over the volleyball courts for sand volleyball all year round, and have been hosting weekly drop in tournaments for a few months now. One of the big reasons that I prefer playing at Woodlands is that your league plays at the same time every week. No 6pm one week then 11pm the next. Oh and their league prices are super competitive. This is the first year they've had the dome, so we can't be too critical, but it would be great to not have to walk all the way inside the bar to use the restroom! I'm sure they'll get that straightened out in years to come!

Oh, and there's also a Late Night Slice kitchen attached to the bar. If you're in the mood for pizza, they have you covered. Overall, I'm happy to update this review with another star.
