    Quiet study space
    Adam G.

This Columbus Metropolitan Library branch is located just off of N. High Street, directly adjacent to the Whetstone Community Center. There is plenty of free parking in a dedicated lot, which is an underrated plus. Hours at the time of this review are 9a-9p Mon-Thurs, 9a-6p Fri-Sat, and 1p-5p Sun. There are a barrage of tables and reading chairs throughout the main part of the library. They also have dedicated spaces for children and teens. They don't have individual study rooms like some of the other Columbus metro libraries, but they do have a quiet study space with four larger tables (for 2-3 people) and 5 individual cubby type spaces. The best part is this space has floor to ceiling windows, so there is plenty of natural light. In addition, there is a large meeting room near the front, that I'm assuming must be reserved ahead of time. If I'm being picky, the only downside was the bathrooms -- there is only one set, they are quite small, and located in the very front of the library, literally in the entry way.

Great library. I am a First Amendment auditor and visited this library on July 18, 2023 and they respected our right to take photos and video in public so they passed the audit with flying colors. They have some nice art in this place as well as a great selection of books. Thanks for respecting our 1st Amendment right, library folks. P.S. This place was hoppin' with activity. I'm very happy to see that.

I suddenly needed internet and a quiet place to work that had free parking. Here's the nearest library to the rescue. Yep, even for someone who doesn't live here. Large area for stacks, several computers available for usage and a few study carrels against the far wall that also offered power outlets. So not only did I get my work done, I was able to add some electricity to my cell phone before continuing to explore Columbus. The library was very quiet, the wifi worked very well and other than one dude who had to be woken up because he fell asleep (twice!), it was a great spot to get done what needed doing. The quiet room has great natural light.

This library is by the Park of Roses as well as near businesses that make a lunch or coffee break away from studying/working easy. I enjoy studying here because of the quiet room. It has a lot of natural light and plenty of tables. Additionally, I find the parking for this library to also be abundant.

The Whetstone Branch looks much smaller than it is. According to their Web site, Whetstone has 170,000 volumes, making it one of the larger branches. I would say, though, Whetstone is best for kids. It has a decent sized kids section with play area included. This branch is as active as some others with having weekly children's story times and periodic homework help center sessions. Posted on the walls when you first walk in the front doors, before you get to the inside doors, are upcoming events and activities for people of all ages. For the adults, there are lots of computers and even some much appreciated study desks with electrical outlets for your laptop. The only downfall is there doesn't appear to be a comfy couch or chair in the non-kid section to leisurely sit and read a book or magazine. What I like is that it may is fairly open spaced so you can freely move around. Whetstone is also quiet and not usually crowded. If I don't have my laptop I can often just sit down at a computer rather than having to reserve one. Another plus is it's next door to Whetstone Park. So after you've checked out your books, you can go play tennis or throw a Frisbee or if it's summer you can gawk at the roses.

Beautiful new building, lots of glass. Open and bright inside. Large children's area. I didn't see the other areas, because I have a kid... K found what she wanted, admired the fish tank, played in the play areas. Very pleasant all around. We are lucky to have a great library system in Franklin County, often rated one of the best in the nation, with many branches, which are being upgraded regularly. Great staff, large selection, easy to reserve. Not to mention the programs and events and electronic offerings. Honestly, one of the centers of the community and a driver of excellence.

Children are running rapid, climbing over furniture and screaming..... babies having temper, tantrums and adult / staff doing absolutely nothing to correct the issue. Forget about trying to concentrate because that is not happening here. I have been at this location several times, mornings, afternoon and evening, and it's always the same scenario. Even with wax earplugs or EarPods you simply cannot mask the noise level. I've spoken with staff regarding the issue and was told it's normal. After school is out then you're dealing with disrespectful teenagers, sitting around, acting up and being disruptive and claiming all the decent computers just to sit and watch videos or play games. Can't they do this at home so that others can actually utilize the library as it was meant to be used? If the teens have taken up all the adult allowed area ( yes their sections for the age groups ) and there is a free seat elsewhere you NOT allowed to use it unless you have a child with you. If that's not discriminating I don't know what is. Wasted tax dollars at work!!! Would've been cheaper to build a free daycare center elsewhere. While I enjoy the futuristic modern design, the open center is complete wasted space only designed for aesthetic purposes, not useful. And lastly, with all the windows, it is absolutely freezing in the winter time....and yes burning up in the summer. I suggest New Albany library where the youth have respect for their surroundings, unless you're a deadbeat parent needing to pawn your child off on someone else, then the Gahanna library is for you.
