This place has the best bagels in Columbus. Good menu variety, quick service and good prices.

Although they advertise themselves as a general store I feel like they are more of a takeout place for sandwiches and bagels. (Lots of folks coming and going) The selection of groceries left something to be desired but the hoagie and fries were delicious! I got the bagel with butter to go but I can't tell you how it tasted because my dog got to it before I did! lol They even have a little seating area if you want to eat there. Stopped at the Columbus General store after my LabCorp visit. They had a breakfast burrito special for $7.99 which included a bottle of water or coffee or a can of soda. So I got it. It was amazing! Went back a 2nd time, we had something different from the first time. It was so amazingly good, we had to take home a muffin and apple turnover for later. Wow! Has this place gone downhill! Idk if it's new ownership or what. Hoagies used to be the best, not so much anymore. Went there last Sunday just for a cheese hoagie. Hahaha!! American cheese hoagie with lettuce, tomato, hot peppers and vinegar. It felt light when I left but boy was i surprised when I got home. Literally!!! 3 pieces of cheese! This store is in a quiet , clean, neat, and homey in a little town. I've been coming here since 2000. They have a little of this and that such as lottery, New England Coffee Island, Hershey Ice-cream, Boar's head deli meats and cheese, chips, milk, soda and a local favorite called "Boost", and so much more. They have fair prices and good food. They have a diner like set up where you can eat in and watch t.v., read your paper or whatever you like. As I waited for my order it was as if I stepped back in time. People who came in seemed to no one another and the cashier new them as well. It was as if it were there home away from home and I was visiting them. While engaging in friendly conversation. I had hash browns, 2 farm eggs, pork roll and rye bread. I took my family and I orders and left because I had somewhere to be. After parking I decided to open my container and what did J see? There was no pork roll. Ugh! I was so disappointed because this was my cheat day. Now I couldn't cheat. You're talking about a major disappointment because I had built myself just to be let down by the MIssing in action pork roll. I called to inform them of my issue. I was in formed that they would give extras pork roll and gave me an apology. I looked in my container and disappointed again because it was only really a regular order. I have been in this area for over 20 years so I am quite familiar with this spot. Seen many changes as well as many owners. The current owner has raised prices to ridiculous levels. The other day I had a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich on rye and it was over $9.00! Now time for some math; if eggs are $3 a dozen, 2 eggs cost 50 cents, 2 slices of American cheese is about 40 cents, 2 slices of porkroll is about $1 and 2 slices of rye is 20 cents. A dallop of cooking oil is maybe 10 cents. Now, if the cook is making $30 and hour and it takes him 7 minutes to make this that equals $3.50. This totals $5.70. Thats a pretty hefty mark up. I also had a deli sandwich (bologna & liverwurst on whole wheat, don't laugh it is really good) and that cost over $12 dollars! It did include a small bag of chips. Plenty of other places within 2 miles where the food is as good and lots more fairer in price. read more

I haven't been here for awhile but ive always loved their cole slaw and my boyfriend likes to put it on his roast beef hoagie. I always get the southwest chicken salad no egg no onion and an order of fries. I usually love their lunch fries. I ordered to go. The fries were some of the worst ive ever been served. Extremely overcooked. I like a little crunch but these were well past that. The hoagie was really good and my salad was good except they forgot the asian crispy noodles that kind of make it. It's a shame that this place has gone down hill. We haven't been happy that all of the sandwiches that used to include fries have now become platters- charging $3 for a handful of fries that were included just a year ago (and for a lower overall sandwhich/fries price) is just sad. We were in a pinch so ordered here one more time today. I arrive to find out that only one of the orders was made. No apologies, I was just told that I can wait while it's prepared. That's no way to keep customers. When I worked at delis and a butcher shop, if that happened we would call the customer- if we couldn't get them then their meal upon arrival would be comped. I would have been happy with an apology but nada.. so, in summary- $13 for a wrap with a dozen fries that I used to pay 10 bucks for (and would get both of my orders)? No longer for me. Went to pick up my order only to find a stale roll for my hoagie and my wrap to have items on it I specifically asked them to take off. They unhappily remade the wrap to what I had asked. (Trying to get me to take the incorrect wrap). When I got home the chicken was literal rubber and smelled bad. Never again. This place used to be amazing a few years ago but not at all since. Very cute little restaurant was wonderful charbroiled burgers. The staff was nice the price is good and the people who come in keep this place very busy. Not really a general store more like a convince store. The restaurant part of the shop has fried chicken, pasta, hoagies & appetizers deli items you name it they got it along with coffee and tea. Gave the General Store another chance because of a message from the owner, again we are very disappointed. The normally solid Chicken Athena was loaded with soggy, previously frozen spinach that tasted like it came from a dollar store, and a paltry amount of feta. The only half-decent items were the fries and the garlic bread. Chicken was tender, but mostly flavorless except for the frozen spinach taste. Final strike, never again. read more

Everything I've ordered from here has been so good. Fresh, high quality ingredients. Their "Cheese Lover's Panini" is my all-time favorite sandwich. They have unique sandwiches...turkey reuben, cow girl chicken wrap, grilled turkey pocket, or any sandwich ordered on homemade bread. I just had the General Store for the third time and it has won me over. 1) It has a diner menu meaning you can really get ANYTHING you want 2) It tastes better than cheap diner food 3) portions are big so its a good value. We come here all the time and the food is always good. Unfortunately, due to a very rude woman who we've had some issues with before but never so bad, we will not be going here again. While waiting for food, she complained how much she hates people sneezing and blowing their nose. A worker came up to her and she said "Someone already brought their food up, you're retarded." While signing my credit card receipt, she made another snide comment "does it always take you this long to sign a receipt?" Best coleslaw and potato salad ever! I order paninis a lot, and hey never disappoint.

Had to throw out our dinners tonight. Picked up 2 salads each with grilled chicken which looked horrible and tasted even worse. Nuked it in case it was under-cooked since it didn't look right, but that didn't help. I don't know if it wasn't fully defrosted before it was cooked or if it was just old, but it was inedible and definitely not safe to serve. Olives tasted funny, too, and a lot of the lettuce was wilted. A while back, I bought milk there that went bad before the sell by date. I called to advise them of the problem so they could pull the milk out of the frig...person who took the call didn't care about it at all. We previously tolerated the rude service since there isn't much else in town, but they have officially lost our business. read more

I would give 5-stars because I find that the food is excellent! I am never disappointed. However, the last 3 or 4 times that I've called to place an order for pick-up, the person answering the phone has always been so rude and snippy! It's almost like you feel like you're inconveniencing them by giving them your business.
