Such an unfortunate situation- coming from someone who works in vet med, I'm genuinely concerned at the lack of communication between clinic and client. During My first new client/ new patient exam they were almost an hour late, no communication, I had to reach out to ensure they were coming. I had previously requested an estimate and was provided with one, but upon checking out the estimate prices and actual prices were different so I couldn't plan accordingly. The whole interaction left a bad taste in my mouth, but I wanted to give them another chance. When attempting to get medication for my senior mare I was met with push back when trying to get a written script so I could order it through my work pharmacy. Current day- I've reached out via email twice within the last week and have not heard anything back, I've called and got put on hold just to get hung up on. I chose to establish care at a different hospital and went to request records and they sent it directly to them and still did not respond to me. Overall I'm genuinely upset at the lack of support and communication from this clinic. The only response I got after posting this review on google was "Hello Soriyana, we understand your concerns and the frustration you've experienced with the communication issues and discrepancies in pricing. It's important for us to ensure that our clients feel supported and informed, and we regret that this was not your experience. Every vet we have worked with has been top notch! I want to give a special compliment of appreciation to Dr. Paul Duffy. He has worked with several of our horses over the past 5 plus years. He is knowledgeable, kind, gentle, patient and compassionate. He examines our horses and offers his diagnosis in ways that are understandable. My daughter's horse recently had an unknown traumatic event, leaving him with a terrible wound in his chest. We put the call in to Columbia Equine, and the vet came out to our barn to check on him. He was having a hard time walking, and we were all so afraid. The entire staff was absolutely *amazing*! Once on site at their facility, there were several vets working on him at any given time with support from the vet techs. The best news is he is healing! His chest wound is fully closed now, and he is starting to work with a rider again. We are beyond grateful for the care of these phenomenal vets at Columbia Equine provided. read more

I recently used Columbia Equine Hospital for a pre-purchase exam. I was coming from out-of-state so you can imagine finding a good vet was important. My experience with this team was professional from end-to-end. The front desk staff contacted me well in advance. The day of, I got a phone call letting me know the vet was on his way. The vet, Greg Schmid, was really thorough and even better, great at explaining what he was doing, what he found, and the implications of what he found. This ability to explain is exceptional. He is also himself a horseman, so that was a great bonus. His assistant Katie was a great person to have as well. Explained a couple of things and also a horsewoman. When it came to exam extras such as X-rays and blood tests, Dr. Schmid gave me several options and explained the implications of all of them. After the exam, I received the full report promptly as did my local vet. When I wanted a copy of the X-rays personally, got those with a simple ask. Felt supported at the beginning but also pushed toward more expensive treatment while they knew I had money. After a month I was out of money, and they refused to send someone out or return calls. Finally my horse took a turn for the worse and the day of I was forced to make an enormous payment by phone before they would come put my horse down who was in severe pain after weeks of expensive visits. read more

I brought my mare to Columbia Equine to have a lameness exam performed as I thought my mare might be showing mild signs of lameness in a hind limb. Dr Greg was so helpful in assessing my mare who, thank goodness, turned out to be fine. Even though this was a slight case of me being overly worried about my generally healthy/sound horse, I'm so glad I brought her to see Dr Greg who was so generous with his time and was happy to share his wealth of knowledge. He even pointed out some things about my mare that I hadn't noticed before and I left feeling like I had a better understanding of my horse's body quirks. Sometimes everything goes wrong. We hired a new farrier and did not verify her certification or get references from actual customers. Our horse received an enthusiastically yet poorly directed nail that bled and caused him great pain. We called the Clinic recommended by the barn to tend the wound. And again for pain management. And again. The vet refused to come out a fourth time pronouncing the horse sound. We called Columbia Equine the same day. A veterinarian came right out, recognized the horse had an infected hoof. Poor guy- Very lame, a fever, in pain. The vets and staff cared for our horse and arranged for hospitalization. They worked on our horse every day for three weeks. Procedures to clean the abscess, daily flushing, packing, antibiotics and words of encouragement. The staff at Columbia Equine Hospital are professional, skillful, communicative and kind. read more

I called Columbia Equine Hospital on Friday, June 17, 2016, because my 13-year old gelding horse was suddenly lame in his right leg in the morning. I immediately picked up his right leg and cleaned out his right hoof, where there were no stones or rocks in the interior of his hoof. My horse had metal shoes on all four hooves. I called Columbia Equine Hospital at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, after having called my Farrier repeatedly during the morning and afternoon, but never receiving a response. A female veterinarian arrived at my place at 6:45 p.m. and it was raining. I held my horse and the female veterinarian examined his right hoof and said that there was a little bit of thrush at the end of his toe, and that that was caused by his walking through wet areas. She said that when the rains stopped, the wet areas would become dry and my horse would have no more problems. However, she sold me two jars of a green salve, mini-pads (which are used by women during their menstrual cycles) cotton rolls wrapped in paper, and vet wrap. She told me that my horse was overweight, and I asked her if I should put him on a diet. She emphatically told me NOT to put him on a diet, but to exercise him a lot. Then, on Saturday, June 18, 2016, I drove to Burns Feed Store and I purchased bedding, more vet wrap, and then I locked my horse into an area which I filled with bedding materials, and by myself, I would soak his right hoof in a bucket of hot water and Epsom Salts for 20 minutes. Then, I would apply the salve/poultice to a mini-pad and place that sole of his right hoof, wrap all of that with a roll of vet wrap, apply a covering which I had made with thin strips of duct tape which I had applied to a thin piece of cardboard, and wrap all of that onto his right hoof with more duct tape. My horse stood patiently for me while I did this during a lightning and thunder storm. I did this twice a day for my horse by myself for 5 days. Then, my Farrier drove to my place and told me that my horse had an Abscess which was caused by a stone bruise which then became an Abscess. Therefore, I walked around for ten hours picking up every rock or stone that I found in his pasture. My Farrier told me that when my horse was frolicking in his pasture, he must have hit a stone or a rock. My Farrier told me that my horse had not gotten thrush or an Abscess from walking through wet areas, as the female veterinarian from Columbia Equine Hospital had told me. On Friday, July 22, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. my Farrier arrived and was planning to put metal shoes on my horse. He apologized to me profusely, and told me that my horse had not had a stone bruise which caused an Abscess, and that his right hoof still seemed very sensitive. Then, he told me to call Columbia Equine Hospital again, and ask for Scott Hansen who is the owner of Columbia Equine Hospital, and request that Dr. Scott Hansen examine my horse's right hoof. Therefore, I called Columbia Equine Hospital and asked for Dr. Scott Hansen. I was told that he was out of town until August 1, 2016. Therefore, a female veterinarian arrived at my place. When a female veterinarian arrived on Friday, June 17, 2016, I thanked her and referred to her as Dr. Ruth. She never told me that that was not her name. When, the female veterinarian arrived at my place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016, she told me that she was Dr. Megan Rioux-Forker, and that she was the same veterinarian who came to my place on Friday, June 17, 2016. She told me that my horse had laminitis and that I needed to put him on a diet immediately. Then, she wrote up instructions for me that were unconscionably condescending. She wrote that I should "ice feet" for the next 3 days, She asked me if I was using Sweetened Applesauce when I put his "Bute" in it. She doesn't even know how to spell Butte. I told her that I always bought Applesauce which was unsweetened. In her instructions to me, she referred to his hooves as "feet", and she made a point of insulting me at anytime possible. She even asked me if the credit card I gave to her was good. Of course, I gave her a good credit card, but I felt like telling her that I had stolen it from some unsuspecting person, and that she would never be paid for her condescending services, wrong diagnosis and prognosis the first time (she was 100% wrong the first time, but never apologized to me; instead, she chose to insult me. I will never have Dr. Megan Rioux-Forker back to my place. I called Dr. Dan Christenson and he will perform any x-rays on my horse's front hooves. If Dr. Scott Hansen were available before August 1, 2016, I would have him x-ray my horse's front hooves.
