Yesterday was my second experience with Abby as my colorist, and I am simply bowled over by how good she is. I've been to many, many hair dressers, and have never encountered anyone with the excellent instincts that Abby displayed from the very start. Abby granted my wish-- making my very dark-brown, somewhat gray hair SCREAMING purple. Though we had to bleach first, I literally left with healthier hair than I came with. And though she could have charged me a LOT more to do my roots on my second visit, she recommended I wait (to keep my hair healthy) and found a deeper purple shade that I not only loved, but which blends perfectly with my roots. The thing with Abby is that she is not shy about telling you the truth. If she thinks you are about to make a mistake, she will tell you, whether it's picking a hair color that's wrong for your skin tone, a haircut that is unflattering, a process that is not healthy, etc. But this goes the other way too-- she comes up with amazing ideas for her clients that are artistic and creative. For example, I happened to mention that I've always wanted a pixie cut, but my last experience getting one was a disaster (i.e. the stylist didn't listen to me and did what she wanted anyway, which I ended up HATING). Abby got a mischievous glint in her eye and asked if I still wanted to do something like that. After she explained what she had in mind (a modified pixie that would frame my face and work with my natural curl), I was more than convinced. It came out even better than I imagined -- I get compliments on it from friends, family, acquaintances, total strangers, constantly! So, if you're looking for a stylist/colorist that will mindlessly do whatever you ask, take the fastest/easiest route, endlessly tries to shove product at you, and treats you like a number, then DON'T go to Abby. But if you want a talented, warm, hilarious, professional that will take the time to get to know you, understand your wants, needs and challenges, thoroughly explain everything that will happen (risks and benefits) and use every bit of her decades of experience to create a style that will blow your mind, then definitely GO TO ABBY! I promise, you won't regret it! read more

** 6/27/16 I have since became a regular here that literally I can say" let's do something new " I'm open to anything" and she will just take over. It's never over the top crazy but it's definitely hair character and I love all my color changes and styles. ** she's opened my eyes to a lot of colors and styles that I thought I'd never be into. She's stuck with me now and it breaks my heart when I can't see her like ASAP ASAP bc I make changes to my hair like I change clothes! Abby is one of the best hairstylists I've been to! I was actually just in town to visit my parents and desperately needed a haircut. I've had short hair (think bob) for much of the past few years and I was trying to grow it out. Sadly, it had grown into this weird uneven mullet-y look. I explained to Abby what I was going for and snip snip snip, she transformed my hair into something that actually looked like it had style. She even offered me some advice on how I can take care of it, curl it, etc. The place itself is very cute. Mattison Avenue Salons is basically like big office-like building with a million individually own suites (of which Abby works in one) that range from hairstyles to nail technicians to massage therapists. Very cute and intimate setting. The haircut and style took about 1 hour and we chit chatted through most of it. I did purchase a Groupon deal, which made the total price around $39. I think her prices for women's cuts start around $50, which is fantastic for the haircut you're going to get! read more

She also taught me how to style my hair and showed me what products I could use without pressuring me into buying them. Apart from being so good at what she does, she has such an amazing personality! A very infortune experience, I visited this place twice, at the second time my hair was ruined, I was trying to remain blonde and just trying to colour my roots. It was just the day before my Marriage! My hair was burned by the bleach I lost nearly half of my hair, I tried to hide it under the veil, but during the honeymoon people came up to me at the street and told me about my poor hair!!!! It was terrible. After 7 months with the help of real hairdresser and a lot of treatment my hair looks better, but not so much of it left - the new hair should grow up till the previous length, it will take me another 2 and a half years approximately. So if you want to be blonde, you should be aware what you can get from Abby, be careful! read more

Abby was absolutely fantastic! I have had my hair long and pretty boring for years now, only getting trims because I hadn't found a hair stylist that I really liked and trusted. We started off with a consultation and she was very enthusiastic about what I wanted to do (shorter cut with some layers). I really appreciate when hair stylists will give me their honest opinion on what I should do! I feel like a lot that I have been to don't want to "tell me what to do" and just want to see a picture of what I want. But I am indecisive and honestly not always sure what will look good on me! That's why I'm consulting a professional! I showed Abby some pictures of styles I liked and then described my hair type and asked questions. She gave me lots of great feedback and suggestions. I even told her I'd like to have it colored at a future appointment but wasn't sure exactly how since I need very "low maintenance" hair. She gave me more good suggestions about that, so I am planning a second appointment with her for color. The cut came out great, and I absolutely love how she styled it. I was looking to do ombré on my hair and so I went on my trusty yelp app and typed in ombré hair. ColourTress popped up. I had no idea I was so close to this salon suite! It was easy to find, although the maze inside is a little tricky. Once you find it, it's pretty clear. As always, I was prepared with pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like. I was going for a rose gold ombré look, but of course, being Asian, I can't get that in one sitting. But Abby is great because she works with you until you are satisfied with the end result. I started panicking (in my head of course) because it was lighter than I thought it would be so she put a reddish/pink toner on my hair to darken in. At first I wasn't sure because I was trying to steer away from red (I've done it too many times) but every time I washed it, it got less red and tuned to a pinkish, rose gold color. She told me to come back if I want to lighten the bottom tips of my hair, which was originally what I was going for. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair since the last time, so I wasn't sure I should lighten it again, but I went back today and she worked her magic. She added lighter pieces while still keeping what she did before. I like that she listens to what you want and also recommend options and sound advice. I'm so glad I found this place because I always jump from hair stylist to hair stylist for my hair, but this is somewhere I can go for professional coloring and get what I want. I've been coming to Abby for roughly 3 years. I'm in my 30s and have never found a stylist near as good. She's very professional but also sensitive to her clients wants and needs. She's quick to make recommendations based on her experience and never once let me down.
