When we arrived we were the first two there for the day, and he got up and expressed his appreciation that we came in and was eager to give us a tour around the facility. He previously worked on boats in the area during his career, so he knows his stuff! We started off watching the fifteen minute video that told us about the various important aspects of Lake Erie and Sandusky as a port, such as ice harvesting, fishing, sand dredging, and coal shipping. Then Ken showed us the boats in their collection, explaining the differences between the construction of each, followed by an entire room of outboard motors of various makes and horsepower! Then we returned to the main showroom to look at the exhibits. I especially liked the map that showed the channels throughout the years, the miniature model of the train-to-ship coal shipping station, and the depth charts of each Great Lake. You're sure to find something that interests you and learn something! They're also doing a solid job of putting in exhibits to interest children, such as building a small model boat, playing giant Battleship, learning to tie knots, and steering a boat around a projected screen of Lake Erie. A new exhibit is being added soon so kids can aim a canon at a screen and pretend to sink ships in the distance like in 1813! The restrooms are crisp and clean. The gift shop is somewhat small/limited, but I found a couple postcards to purchase. The volunteers help with the gift shop and admissions and are friendly.

This celebration beat the one in NYC, hands down. Wylie, the Walleye, was born in 1997 and made of simply paper mache. They have sinced upgraded. Port Clinton is the "Walleye Capital of the World," so it is only fitting that they drop a colorful LED lit, 20-foot, 600-pound walleye, named Wylie Jr., from the sky at the stroke of midnight, with a spectacular FIREWORKS show soon thereafter. As mentioned, the event is free and kicks off with a kids party from 4p to 6p, kids walleye drop at 6p, games and the "touch a truck" event, where kids can see public safety vehicles. They also have a raffle with a chance to win some cool prizes. And for those 21 and up, they have a "Bar Swim" that features heated charter buses that take you to bars around town. Keep in mind that this event occurs off season so a few places in the town my be closed for the season. A few restaurants that I eyed fell in that category. If you are just going to watch the Walleye Drop then I recommend getting there around 11PM. It gets very cold out there and there is no need to freeze for an extended period. We ended up getting there around 9PM and eating/drinking at one of the restaurants/bars across the street. They also have some food trucks there if you want to go that route. The popcorn store is open through the night to satisfy your popcorn fix. A DJ is jamming the night away with the hottest tunes. He was playing when we arrived there at 9. After we ate, we took on the cold and danced like it was 1999. They have a guy that was selling blinky things, but I recommend bringing your own NYE garb if you want a wider selection. We were fortunate enough that we did not have to drive there. Our hotel had a complimentary shuttle that dropped off and picked up party goers. If you are staying at hotel you may want to check if they offer a shuttle. This Walleye is awesome. It is great family fun. definitely a bucket list must do. So, remember dress warm. It gets very cold out there and plan your arrival with the cold in mind. You may also want to plan your parking if you are driving. They shut down some of the road when the party ends about 1210.

The sound was great, and we were pretty close to the stage. They do let "members" in 5 minutes early, but even with our delayed entrance we had close seats. The gentleman I assume is the owner did a short introduction after telling us about future shows, and he chatted with the crowd after Charlie ended his show. It was all very cozy and I would come back for another show. There is a 2-drink minimum and the selection, while small, is fine. We were also told to ask for anything we didn't see. They also offer chips or pretzels as a snack during the show. After the show, Charlie did a meet and greet in the lobby. It's always a treat to tell the artist how much you enjoyed his show. :-) We got a great deal on a room for the night that included the ticket cost. Our room was on the main floor. We really enjoyed our stay.

It's actually inside of a hotel and is easy to miss if you don't know the area. We also had a difficult time figuring out where to park. To get into the venue you have to walk into a hotel lobby and check in. We were amongst the first to check in because it was important for us to sit up front. The way they had the seats put out were in rows and the front row had maybe about 8-10 spots. It's a small venue so most of the seats are good but I'm super picky about where I sit. I was happy the venue did not choose to shove a million openers at us. We only had to deal with one and the headliner came on promptly after. In order to use the restroom you had to exit the venue and go into the lobby. The acoustics sounded great and we were happy with the show. What made me deduct one star was their obnoxious 2 drink minimum policy. Neither of us drink so we were pretty annoyed that the waitress kept coming up to us and pressuring us to order drinks. She even interrupted the performance to take our order. Since neither of us drink one of us got a cup of plain hot water and I ordered a mudslide that I only took one sip of. It hurt paying $20 for something we did not drink so please beware of us. We were grateful that the drinks were not more expensive than $10 each at least. The hotel looked very cute and we were sorry we were not staying there. The owners seemed like lovely people and we did not come across one grouchy employee.

I love history and museums, so this was such a great experience. Ken, the Museum's director and a former Cedar Point employee, was there and gave us an overview of the collection and lots of CP history. He was so knowledgeable and super interesting to talk to. He had answers for all of our questions and I felt like we could have talked to him for hours. I truly had no idea about Cedar Point's extensive history - it is the country's longest-running amusement park, and was started in 1870 as a public bathing beach, with the first "roller coaster" opening in 1892. The collection houses tons of artifacts, including souvenir items you could buy from the 1900s. It was so interesting to see the evolution of marketing materials, souvenirs, etc. They even have a small section of rare items that were all donated. The museum used to be onsite at Cedar Point but has since moved to this spot. I highly recommend this to any Cedar Point fan - I just hope Ken is there to give you all the information!

I was…read morehere this weekend for the first annual LEAFF (Lake Erie Arts & Film Fest) and enjoyed seeing movies in this venue. It's a lot smaller than the Michigan but still just as beautiful. The concession stand seemed to be open during LEAFF but no one was actually manning it - I did see popcorn was $3 but for a small portion. Ticket-takers / other staff were friendly, restrooms were clean, the theater part itself is gorgeous. Worth seeing a film here if you're in the area.

I have friends that are members and we have an annual Put in Bay weekend. There were 7 of us and we…read morevisited for dinner on a Sat night. There was a bit of a wait for outside, so we decided to eat inside the restaurant. You can eat inside or out and there are nice views of the boats and water across the street. We started with the Pretzel Bites and for dinner we ordered the Perch Platter, Walleye, Taco Salads, Sandy's Shrimp, Summer Salad and Chicken Pasta. Everyone enjoyed their dinners, portions were large and presentation was done well. All the shrimp entrees had a large portion of shrimp which you do not see everywhere. I had order Perch the night before and the Crews Nest was definitely the superior dinner. Perch was lightly breaded and cooked just right, so the fish was tender and flaky. The taco salads were off the lunch menu and they still made them for our table. Overall it was a lovely dinner and the service was attentive and prompt. If you have the opportunity it is worth a visit to the Crews Nest.

Yes, this is the place to be before school starts, every Labor Day weekend. Be sure to catch the parade, and wave to the Melon Queen, selected from all the senior girls at the high school and riding on her Melon Slice Throne on the parade float.
