When you buy a ticket to the Merry-Go-Round Museum, you also get entrance into the Sandusky Cedar Point Historical Museum, which is housed within the same building. It was SO COOL. I love history and museums, so this was such a great experience.
Ken, the Museum's director and a former Cedar Point employee, was there and gave us an overview of the collection and lots of CP history. He was so knowledgeable and super interesting to talk to. He had answers for all of our questions and I felt like we could have talked to him for hours.
I truly had no idea about Cedar Point's extensive history - it is the country's longest-running amusement park, and was started in 1870 as a public bathing beach, with the first "roller coaster" opening in 1892.
The collection houses tons of artifacts, including souvenir items you could buy from the 1900s. It was so interesting to see the evolution of marketing materials, souvenirs, etc. They even have a small section of rare items that were all donated. The museum used to be onsite at Cedar Point but has since moved to this spot. I highly recommend this to any Cedar Point fan - I just hope Ken is there to give you all the information! read more
