You may be asking yourself, "what do character traits have to do with her skills as a make up artist?" My answer: everything. She had a full day booked ahead of her on the day I requested my trial (my bridal shower) but she made it work. She fit me in extra early because I really wanted to experience the makeup with a full day ahead of me. I loved my makeup and received so many compliments. Fast forward... we are about 3 weeks out to my wedding day and my venue cancels on me due to COVID restrictions. When I told Hazel she was so sympathetic and went above and beyond AGAIN. I had a trial a few months prior where we got to talk about my ideas and concerns and Lexi was an expert listener, clarified what I meant, asked for input, and explained her rationale when giving suggestions. I have long, super fine, super curly hair and I'm always a little anxious letting anyone else do it, but Lexi was a pro. The style held up through the night and looked great in photos. No smoothing down frizzies or constantly tucking in bobby pins! I don't usually wear a ton of make-up and wanted to look like myself, and Lexi was totally on board for my vision. We tweaked a couple things day-of (softening the contour, change up the lip color a little bit) and it turned out so perfect in photos. But the thing that impressed me the most was Lexi's ability to be flexible and inclusive of the needs of my bridal party. I had an attendant who had recently come out as non-binary, and was feeling anxious about the hair/make-up process, not wanting to feel forced into a style that was too femme. They were unable to do a trial due to living out of state, but Lexi had them find photos of styles they were drawn to and send them along. She was patient as my attendant waded through the options to find something that felt right, and when they landed on the style they liked, Lexi totally delivered. She listened carefully, adjusted to their needs, and they felt so seen, heard, and loved in the process. It totally changed the tone of the day for them. Now that I've had my makeup and hair done for several weddings, I wanted to note a couple things that she does differently which make her well worth your budget. She asks for photos of you with and without makeup prior to the trial (and hair naturally in a photo as well), and she does the same for your bridesmaids. This made me feel like she would be well-prepared for the wedding day for all the different skin tones and hair length that bridesmaids have, lowering the possibility to run short on time. She was also available throughout the year of planning, not just during the trial. I would email her photos and she would send some back, and I would send feedback about my trial look that I wanted to adjust after seeing the photos she took for me (hint - take photos and look at them a week or two later with fresh eyes). I noticed that she also took notes from our trial and had reviewed them on the wedding day - I haven't seen any other artist do this that I've worked with. This also helped with the time efficiency AND getting that look perfectly since the last time we had done the trial was months before. Trust me, you'll have Bride Brain no matter how organized you are and you can't have an artist who asks you what lip color it was that you had wanted. So glad she had the look all set to go and from there we went! I am so pleased with how my makeup turned out in my photos and lastly, she brought an assistant because I had so many bridesmaids and she was seriously incredible too.
