Monsieur Maxx Ortensio "Miso Happy" joined our family today. Well, we did change his name, though…read more Max to Maxx to honor the dog named for the meeting room we met in.;-) And he just requested we add another name so he is MISO HAPPY. Because he is. I am, too. ;) Room 19 on 4/19, Patriots' Day. Ortensio as the male version of Ortensia, the hyacinth flower name from the Humane Colorado woman who is from Barcelona. Ortensia orchestrated my having first visit with Maxx. The couple who signed in before me as I was negotiating finding a shoe substitute (it took me awhile) kindly said "He's yours." How right they were. How right was Ortensia. And Miso for the soup I was to deliver but the friend was too sick so I went to the Humane Society instead. Six year old Maxx entered the room. After 5 days of yapping at visitors he quietly sat at my feet for a bit ....and then jumped into my arms and fell asleep as I patted him. With a calm reserve. Welcome home, Maxx! You are safe and well loved. Thank you Ortensia, Jason, the couple, and everyone at Humane Colorado. Maxx says hey and thank you!

We have had nothing but relatively positive experiences with Humane Colorado (DDFL when we used…read morethem). We adopted our Boston Terrier, Stella, from the Buddy Center in Castle Rock back in Nov 2012 as a 11month old. She is now 13! We got so lucky as someone else was visiting her when we arrived. Back then you could put a wish list if a breed online and would be contacted if one came in to one of the shelters. Not anymore but we loved that feature. We found a stray Boston Terrier puppy a few years ago and took her to DDFL to see if so anyone lost a pet and since she bonded with us and our other Boston overnight, we asked them please please contact us if no one claims her, and a week or two later we were contacted and then had to adopt her. She is now called Beans and is about 4 years old. We sadly had to put down our 11 year old Bassethound a year prior to adopting our Beans, and took him to DDFL. The hardest thing ever to do, and he was my first pet. They were great with us, let us take a lot of time to say goodbyes. I only wish we were allowed back during the euthanasia, I really didn't like just sending him off like that. They do offer you ashes and paw prints after as well which was very nice.

WE ARE SO FURIOUS!! AN ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE SHELTER. DO NOT RESCUE FROM HERE…read more My mom had applied to adopt a cat from this place over two weeks ago. The director said the cat she was interested in wasn't up for adoption yet and she would have to wait. After many days of my mom calling and talking to the lady she basically said that the cat was already hers she just had to wait for him to be available. Today my mom called the shelter again and the director said THAT THEY GAVE THE CAT AWAY!!!! my mom was so devastated. We just lost our family dog and she was so excited and looking forward to getting a new cat. The director said it was because they had heard my mom say she was going to make it an outdoor cat, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FALSE. first, my mom would never do that. She specifically wants a cuddly indoor kitty as a companion, second the shelter specifically said she cant have an outdoor cat and my mom agreed with that part of the contract. It makes absolutely no sense. I could tell from the very beginning something was off about this rescue and I was right. I'm not sure what they're doing over there but whatever it is it's not good. We will probably be getting in contact with a lawyer. DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!!!

My parents adopted a lovely dog from DAS a couple years ago, and so my Husband and I decided to go…read moreto DAS as well once we decided we were ready. The staff is incredibly thorough, but also please also be advised you will probably be there **2 HOURS** if you whole heartedly plan to seriously adopt a new family member. I've seen a lot of complaints that this shelter is short staffed, but keep in mind, many of these people are volunteers trying to help re-home animals to caring, loving owners. The wait was so worth it. We adopted our newest family member, a deaf stray, who is incredibly well behaved. The staff gave us every last detail on his health, behavior, and known history. The handlers were incredibly thoughtful when introducing us to our new pet. They also include several vaccinations, surgery, and a microchip in the adoption fees. They send you home with a list of vets that give you your first check up free (though keep in mind we still needed to add some services such as heart worm). I love Denver Animal shelter and appreciate everything they do!

Do what the tax payers deserve with "Denver Animal Protection". Which makes no sense what so ever. How are you "protecting" animals? DENVER TAXPAYERS PROTECTION makes sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We adopted our pup here in 2014 (one of our happiest days)! I will always remember, "Chester is…read moreready for his fur-ever home" and it was our joy hearing that (name changes shortly after). The process was smooth and staff was friendly. Fast forward to 2024 and we have come back here for vet care due to their support and prices. The previous vet clinic we attended spoke to us like we should know the medical lingo and not the best patience when we had questions. If your family is ready to add some fur love, I'd recommend Maxfund! Other notes: There is plenty of street parking near the shelter and good sidewalks for a before or after appt stroll. Bring your cat in their mobile home and dogs need to be leashed upon entering. Have a PAW-some day!

My Experience at MaxFund Veterinary Clinic…read more I've been bringing my 14-year-old Chihuahua, Sadie, to MaxFund for several years, and I've always supported their mission as a no-kill facility. I was genuinely grateful that this recent visit was scheduled quickly, and the two vet techs who handled Sadie were kind, gentle, and patient while clipping her nails, cleaning her ears, and giving her shots. I truly appreciate them. However, my experience with the veterinarian left me disappointed and honestly heartbroken. The vet was in the room for maybe ten seconds. I tried to explain a few concerns--I mentioned a strange swallowing noise Sadie makes in her sleep and that I was worried about a possible ear infection due to the odor and buildup. The vet briefly glanced at her ears and said they "looked good," then left. I never saw her again. When I asked the techs if Sadie might have an ear infection, they told me it would require testing her earwax under a microscope--something I would have gladly approved, but nobody offered or followed up. I left with no answers. Today, Sadie is still shaking her head, and I still don't know if she's in pain. Little things added up. They couldn't find our record at first, even though Sadie has been here multiple times over the years. They had her birth year listed incorrectly. I was also billed $25 for a missed appointment from 2022 that I was never informed about--just added to my receipt without explanation. After reading many other recent reviews from pet owners who felt dismissed, judged, or left without answers, I started to understand I wasn't alone. I love that MaxFund is no-kill, but compassion also means truly listening--especially to someone advocating for an elderly dog who means everything to them. Sadie is not "just at the end of her life." She is my family, my best friend, and she deserves a vet who will check her teeth, test her ears, answer questions, and take a moment to care. I shouldn't leave more worried than when I arrived. I wish I could still trust this clinic, but I can't. I will be taking Sadie elsewhere, even if it costs more--because having our concerns heard is worth it. I sincerely hope MaxFund can improve, because their mission is important, but right now, the follow-through is deeply disappointing. If you are looking to adopt I would look towards the Denver Dumb Friends League who now operates under the name Humane Colorado. Same location and they never changed their goals or bottom line. Just the name.

Initially, I was just looking as I had some logistics to work out but then I met one of their new arrivals from New Mexico. Bourbon and I clicked immediately. I knew in my gut that he wouldn't be there long so I was able to take him home the same day. All of the ladies on staff were so incredibly friendly, kind and very knowledgable. Linda specifically was especially helpful. It's been almost a month and my little guy, now named Finn, is happy, settled in and is loving his new home. Thanks again to the whole group at RMFR. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

We are still caring for the two kittens and love them dearly but we would have loved if they could have been tested better and handled more properly.---- This review was back when we first got our bonded pair of kittens it's been sitting in my drafts forever, I decided to post it now bc it took a lot of money to get the kittens better not just that ALL of my cats better now. I still have the kittens they are better than ever and have the best personalities but I will never be returning to this place just bc of what I said I still have older cats at home and they should have been sure the kittens were healthy before sending them out but they didn't. I don't respect this place at all, They keep sending my mother emails to send in photos of the cats but that will never happen, first off you gave us two unhealthy kitties it's not the cats fault it's yours, be better at managing the cats and getting rid of their sicknesses. I won't be sending you guys any photos because yall don't deserve them first off they are mine now and I take care of them unlike yall did when you had them, they are now in a safe and loving home.
