Cutest cats! the ladies that welcomed us are very considerate and enthusiastic. must come back again!

    sunshine!

they're so great here and we're so elated to have our (practically) perfect sunshine. after having a horrible experience with a shelter in longmont, our adoption with purrfect pause was so refreshing. all of the cats at the cafe come from foster homes, so are well-socialized. the staff are friendly, helpful, and care for the cats deeply (and there's coffee, too!)

    Fluffy cat

This was a fun place! Very relaxing vibes and seems to always have availability to drop by. Both walk ins and reservations are welcome. Rules state that we shouldn't approach cats and should wait for them to come to us. Only one came to me so I stayed for about 20 minutes instead of the hour. I wish they'd be flexible with that rule so we can pet cats that are hanging out on the couch but don't necessarily want to play around. Very nice staff and great products.

I looked for weeks on all of the shelters websites and almost every dog I was interested in was here at Boulder Valley. All the staff members are helpful and sweet; they answered all my questions and even answered the phone a few minutes after closing to help me. Then I found Zeus. Looking through their website, I stumbled upon him and knew I had to meet him. So I played hooky from work, loaded up my husband, roommate, and her dog and headed out. They were more than happy to have my husband and I meet Zeus one on one and then move him to the big pin out front to meet my roommates dog. From there, my husband and I decided to sit on it over night. The next day, I called and placed a hold on Zeus and then drove that following afternoon to go and get him. The paperwork took about 15 minutes to complete and the staff were so excited to bring him out to me to go home. I went from heartbroken and feeling like we'd never find a dog to walking out of Boulder Valley overjoyed. Thank you guys again for everything. They require $350 of training classes up front in addition to these fees and vet expenses. The dental info is not forth coming and could become a large liability since they reserve the right to remove the dog at their discretion for the life of the pet. They, also, will guarantee heart worm status. In addition, they do not hold a non-profit status. That says a great deal right there. They decided to back out gave him to another family Long My wife and I made the wonderful decision to want to grow our family this year. We have been looking for dogs for awhile. After much deliberation and research, we decided an Italian Greyhound would be an excellent fit for the many needs of our little family. We spent time searching for an Italian Greyhound we could rescue, even contacting breed-specific rescues. Even though we are ideal applicants, we were told that these rescues are not receiving the same influx of greyhounds they used to, and we would be waiting YEARS if we were even lucky enough to get one at all. Within 24 hours of this correspondence with this other rescue, they contacted us. They said they had information of an Italian greyhound coming to the state through a different rescue. We were so grateful for their help and felt this was a special, clandestine experience we were having to grow our family. We placed our applications in minutes, called to confirm our family's application, and after a week of waiting I received a call that we were selected. This meant the whole world to our small family and felt like a calling from the universe. Instead, I received radio silence the next day... and was then followed by an email that they would be instead giving the dog to another family , even after we confirmed that we were selected. Why? Because another family (the foster) apparently was more deserving. What a heartbreaking decision by this company. After we have done everything right... the long hours of research, the arduous application, all the hard things to just simply want to grow our family taken away. How can an organization choose to get people's hopes up and break their hearts by saying we "made it"... only to just take it away. It isn't right or fair.

All of these things were lies. He is dog reactive, wasn't leash trained when we got him, still pees in the house from time to time, reacts aggressively to men, and has such horrible separation anxiety that he tears apart his bedding in his crate unless we sedate him before we leave. It's not his fault at all, and we understand that, but for this shelter to not mention any of the above issues, which we noticed in less than a week, they would have to be either A) Intentionally lying to us, or B) So neglectful and uncaring that they hardly knew the dog at all. The second might be the case, as our dog also showed signs of never being played with, or being played with very little. He not only didn't know what a pull toy was or what to do with it, but he also had no concept of fetch (when we tried to pull the toy with him he would simply drop it, and when we threw a toy he just looked at us, clearly confused.) Last but not least, he reacts to any kind of scolding viscerally and dramatically, literally cowering in fear any time we try to scold him. He's a fabulous dog and he has a heart of gold, and we wouldn't trade him for anything in the world, but the fact that this shelter didn't mention ANY of these issues before we adopted him is completely unacceptable. Add to that the frankly ridiculous 400 dollar adoption fee and you get a recipe for disaster. We feel like we were scammed, and in the future we will stay far, FAR away from this rescue. We suggest everyone else does the same.

Their purpose is to try to find the best fit possible for these dogs so as to make sure these dogs aren't put through more trauma and have forever homes. With that, merely putting in an application for a dog doesn't guarantee you're the best fit for the dog you're interested in compared to somebody else. From what I understand they will often take a while to go through their applications because they want to make sure the dog gets adopted by the best candidate for the dog. There are plenty of dogs my fiancé and I could've applied for and probably would've been denied for because they just wouldn't have been a good fit. Also...I'm sorry, but given the fact that this is a RESCUE, not a breeder or whatever, they can't guarantee the breed of the dog ffs. Since they're a non-profit I don't think they have the funds for DNA tests when they're often funding medical treatment etc for the dogs they're rescuing. If you're heart set on adopting a breed, don't rescue I guess? We adopted our dog several days ago and we are in love. His foster family was amazing and we even have made a point to stay in touch with them so they can see how he's doing :) It took Becca/the fosters a few days to get back to us but the process was exactly as expected given the fact that they clearly wanted to extensively look through applications. He is such a wonderful fit in our family and we are really grateful we went through a rescue that clearly really cares about every dog they adopt out.

Many of the animals were active until around 10:30/11 when the temperature warmed up. Right out of the welcome center, we saw 2 of their jaguars (which we were told are usually pretty elusive), some foxes, bobcats, bears, and to our happy surprise, a cheetah. It came out of the shade in the back of its habitat and approached the fence close to the walkway because an employee was driving by. It sat there for awhile until the employee drove off, so we were able to get lots of pictures. My son LOVES cheetahs, so this was definitely a highlight for us. Of course, when we mentioned it to not 1, but 2 employees/volunteers, they both said that that sanctuary location doesn't have any cheetahs. I showed them the pictures and they stated that it was a leopard. While they certainly do have a leopard (which we also saw), this was indeed a cheetah. So, my 1 suggestion to the sanctuary is to educate the staff on the animals there. Aside from that, we also saw wolves, lions, tigers, and camels. Be prepared to walk the 3 miles round trip. Bring lots of water and snacks (they have bathrooms and shaded rest stops along the way). Bring binoculars (or rent theirs for $10 like we did)--the sanctuary is expansive, far beyond what's next to the walkway. And take your time! We told our littles that the animals were playing hide and seek. It is a worthwhile experience!

Before heading out onto the walkway, there's a large tent with food and a space where you can watch a short video explaining the sanctuary's mission and the work they do. I appreciated having that background because it made the whole experience feel more meaningful once we were out there. It was also nice that you can grab food and bring it out with you. Obviously you cannot feed the animals, but you can enjoy your own food and bring a water bottle while you walk. I grabbed a slice of pizza on the way out and appreciated that flexibility. The volunteers were genuinely kind and clearly passionate about being there. The facility itself is huge, you walk along a long elevated walkway that stretches over the habitats, which gives you a really unique vantage point. We had beautiful weather and great visibility, so we were lucky to see a lot. Some animals were lounging, some sleeping, and others were playing around. I liked how each enclosure felt thoughtfully set up and spacious, you could tell they are trying to give the animals an environment that suits them. If you are an animal lover, it is absolutely worth checking out. I do think it can feel a little expensive without a membership, but when you see the scale of the property and understand the work they are doing, it makes more sense. Overall, it was a really special way to spend the day.
