we adopted our sweet baby Emme from the DAS and the experience was so wonderful . We are so grateful and we tell everyone we come in to contact with what great work the staff & volunteers at DAS are doing. THANK YOU!!!

Denver Animal Shelter is an amazing place. 2 and a half years ago I adopted my best friend from them. I was reminded of them because I recently went to check for another cat for my parents. They were so accommodating and asked all the right questions. I went in close to close and they still made an exception and let me meet with a cat. They delicately explained all the information on the cat and made sure I was informed. They truly care about their animals. I am forever grateful they introduced me to my cat I have now. They have adoptions down and give you plenty of time and space to meet with animals.

This is Morgana who we adopted at the end of February!!

We waited for almost 2 hours before meeting any animals as we were there for an adoption. However, they had many signs indicating they were short staffed and had high volumes of customers so that was to be expected! Once we got a counselor to take us to meet the animals, they were very informative and let us take our time visiting with the cats we had selected to meet! I did not feel rushed even though there was a long line behind us! Amazing experience overall.

I visited the Denver Animal Shelter on three occasions to adopt our puppy. Each time, I was impressed with the check-in process and the staff. At the time they were understaffed but you wouldn't know it based on the empathetic way they cared for each customer. In one instance, I saw two owners come in to surrender their pups. While it was sad to see, I was grateful the staff treated each of them with dignity and care. Making that decision can't be easy. More specifically, I want to shine on their employee Rita. Rita helped me during two visits and even said hi to me when I was there the third time and being assisted by someone else. Rita served every customer empathetically and communicated clearly to set expectations. It was clear how much she cares about the work she does and she radiated that passion for all to see. She is a gem!

Being in the market for kitty when its not "kitty season" can be quite difficult. i had been searching for a kitten (other cat doesn't do well with older cats) for awhile and saw this beauty on the adoptable pets on the DAS website. I would recommend looking at this website to see if there are any cats available. Once I saw her i knew immediately people were going to be fighting over this little gal and i didnt even think i had a chance to get her. The day she was in surgery I went to the shelter to ask when she would be available and they said tomorrow but you have to be the first person in line. She wasn't lying because people can get fiesty over a cute kitty like this. I arrived an hour before they opened I would highly recommend doing this if you forsure want to be the first person in line. I got there at 10:00am and around 10:20 other people started flooding in asking me if i was here to see my cat. The first lady to asked about the same cat was kind and left after she knew i was first in line but the others were not quite as nice. Some people tried sneakily cutting me to the point i felt like i needed to grab the door handle before they opened. One guy offered me $500 for my spot in line to get her. Then he proceeded to lie to an employee saying he was there first (they clearly knew it was a lie). They have a kisok systen where you have to go to the kisok first to check in then they call you up like a DMV center. If your serious about the animal you want to adopt id recommend getting there early and make sure to go straight to the kisok. Now i have the sweetest kitty thanks to Denver Animal Shelter!

My dog when we were dropping him off :(

If you're planning on putting your dog down, and you want to keep their ashes, DO NOT DO IT HERE. I did everything correct on my end and they still managed to lose my 17 year old dogs ashes. They also didn't let me know, the dog funeral services called me and told me I was getting a refund, that's how I found out. There was so much miscommunication on their end, it was very unprofessional. When I tried to file a complaint about it, all they said was "sorry for our mistake." I really wanted to keep his ashes and he ended in communal ashes mixed with other pets. I'm still very upset about this!! :(

We had a wonderful experience with this shelter and adopted our dog Frankie who is a chiweenie. He is such a great dog and addition to our family. He had all his shots and was fixed when we got him. Highly recommend this shelter.

Denver animal shelter is amazing!! We fostered with them and ended up adopting our foster pup, so had lots of interactions with the staff for a few months. They are AMAZING and really care about making sure they're setting up the pups and foster parents up for success. We couldn't be more grateful for all they do!

This place should get "Gold Medal" for their gold heart in serving community. If not then I couldn't afford vaccines Amazing place!

Thank you for all your great services... If not this place we won't be able afford vaccinations for our pets! "Gold medal" for you all who work there and volunteers!

Adopted the sweetest kitten and couldn't thank the staff enough for making sure the lady that cut me in line didn't take my spot for opening visits. This lady was so determined to take the same cat I was there for (at 10:15am on a Saturday just to make sure I got him home with me) that she bolts to the front and checks in before I even get signed into the tablet. Well karma is real because she didn't sign in on the tablet as instructed to she lost her spot. Now I have the most wonderful and playful kitten I could ask for. He's attached to my hip already and we've only just met. Thank you!

Don't bother doing their vaccination clinic. It's an hours long wait and very disorganized and inefficient.

Standard with all adoptions from the DFL is a paid-for visit to a veterinarian.. they provided a list of clinics near me, GoodVets - GT was the closest. They got me in the next day. Monty & I arrived to the location, the staff was incredibly friendly & the good boy enjoyed several treats & pets from everyone. Unfortunately, the infection in his mouth was still present and I was told that he would need a couple of medications to finish it off as well as several vaccines. They provided several different options for Monty's vaccines at different price levels, which I greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I didn't have the funds at the time for the medications he needed for the infection in his mouth, let alone any of the vaccinations. I went home bummed out about the fact that I couldn't get Monty what he needed. I got a call later that day from GoodVets, and they had gotten in touch with the DFL, who provides a voucher that covers up to $250 for shelter related illnesses, so it paid for the cost of Montgomery's medications. Earlier this morning, I stopped in and grabbed the meds. Thank you, GoodVets - Golden Triangle for treating & ensuring that Montgomery, got the meds he needed. I genuinely appreciated that. Pros: Location, staff is A+, but the fact that they went through the extra effort to get Monty what he needed was what made me truly happy with the place. I made myself a reminder in my notes to give an honorable mention to Alex at the front desk, who was not only very nice but also incredibly helpful in regard to scheduling as well as any questions I had. A+ communication. I had also told myself that I would mention the Vet Tech who saw Monty, however her name alludes me now.

Nick's departure from DC was devastating to me and my roommate and our dogs. The boys rebelled when Nick moved back to TX. Charlie's beagle instincts would lead him to eat junk off the ground so he regulary had to go to the vet. When Charlie had health issues, Nick would ask about how his buddy was doing (even on weekends and late hours) and reassure me that he would watch over him when they were together. More recently, I had to go out of town unexpectedly for work and Nick switched his schedule around so that he could watch Charlie. He really went above and beyond to help us. I can't recommend Nick enough. Anyone would be lucky to have him care for their cherished pet.

First- 2 visits ago they had him listed as a 2 year old. He's been going there 3 years so it's not possible for him to age backwards. Plus they have his file scanned from his adoption showing his birthdate. I informed them he was 6. My most recent visit I see on his file that he is now 4. I crossed it out and changed it again back to 6. The reason this is serious to me is because they keep referencing his age when analyzing his conditions and saying blah blah "for such a young cat." But he's not 2. Or 4. He's 6. And his name also is not Oliver... I went in on a Monday and had bloodwork done. They were supposed to call the next day with results but didn't. And not the next day either. His vet had gotten sick and called out and it would've been under her specific file to call me, but given I had called inquiring I feel a different professional should've been able to at least convey the results to me more quickly. Finally, today I dropped him off at 7:45 for an ultrasound. I had been under the impression and told that it would occur between 9-12. I just called and the tech didn't even get there until after 11. Now he has to sit there for a bit longer and I had been counting down minutes to get his results. I loved this vet and I'm really sad about what's happening there. Not sure if the switched systems or something but normally they, and especially Kim, are super good at communicating and doing everything they can. Now I feel weird leaving him with them because they don't even know his name... age... when the doctor will be there...

The process was smooth and staff was friendly. Fast forward to 2024 and we have come back here for vet care due to their support and prices. My Experience at MaxFund Veterinary Clinic…read more I've been bringing my 14-year-old Chihuahua, Sadie, to MaxFund for several years, and I've always supported their mission as a no-kill facility. I was genuinely grateful that this recent visit was scheduled quickly, and the two vet techs who handled Sadie were kind, gentle, and patient while clipping her nails, cleaning her ears, and giving her shots. I truly appreciate them. However, my experience with the veterinarian left me disappointed and honestly heartbroken. The vet was in the room for maybe ten seconds. I tried to explain a few concerns--I mentioned a strange swallowing noise Sadie makes in her sleep and that I was worried about a possible ear infection due to the odor and buildup. The vet briefly glanced at her ears and said they "looked good," then left. I never saw her again. When I asked the techs if Sadie might have an ear infection, they told me it would require testing her earwax under a microscope--something I would have gladly approved, but nobody offered or followed up. I left with no answers. Today, Sadie is still shaking her head, and I still don't know if she's in pain. Little things added up. They couldn't find our record at first, even though Sadie has been here multiple times over the years. They had her birth year listed incorrectly. I was also billed $25 for a missed appointment from 2022 that I was never informed about--just added to my receipt without explanation. After reading many other recent reviews from pet owners who felt dismissed, judged, or left without answers, I started to understand I wasn't alone. I love that MaxFund is no-kill, but compassion also means truly listening--especially to someone advocating for an elderly dog who means everything to them. Sadie is not "just at the end of her life." She is my family, my best friend, and she deserves a vet who will check her teeth, test her ears, answer questions, and take a moment to care. I shouldn't leave more worried than when I arrived. I wish I could still trust this clinic, but I can't. I will be taking Sadie elsewhere, even if it costs more--because having our concerns heard is worth it. I sincerely hope MaxFund can improve, because their mission is important, but right now, the follow-through is deeply disappointing. If you are looking to adopt I would look towards the Denver Dumb Friends League who now operates under the name Humane Colorado. Same location and they never changed their goals or bottom line. Just the name.
