This was and continues to be the WORST service experience of my life. I've never written a bad review online, but this situation needs to be shared. I'd highly discourage anyone to ever work with CO Door Connection based off the experience we had.
We worked with CO Door Connection to install custom french doors inside our beautiful home. It was a nightmare from the beginning -- I should have known better and moved on. I've outlined the timeline of major events below.
- August 3rd: we put 50% down ($664.88) over the phone as a deposit for our custom doors. Total quoted job = $1,329.76 (this number is a key piece of the conclusion).
- August 18th: sub contractor named Michael Mulvaney comes and measures the custom door frame, to which he reported back to Alex.
- August 18th through September 12th: I called and emailed dozens of times to ask for an update on when our door would be complete. Many times I was ignored and other times I was told "we'll get back to you". Finally, 4 weeks later, we were told our custom french door was ready.
- September 18th: Michael Mulvaney shows back up to install the custom french doors. Half way through the installation I asked why he was installing a small frame inside our already beautiful door frame? to be clear, the job was to install custom doors to the exact measurements of our existing door frame (pictures below). Michael's explanation was that the doors weren't an exact measurement and they needed to frame it out to fit inside our existing frame... How is this a custom job?! The door was never cut to the custom measurements of our door frame. Alex's excuse over several phone calls changed each time. Excuse 1: Michael must have measured incorrectly. Excuse 2: I rushed them to get the job done ASAP so they weren't able to cut them down in time. Excuse 3: "we never knew you had a door frame that already existed, so we always planned to frame it ourselves. Excuse 4: we always frame around the doors. When I told Alex I was going to hire someone to come fix their mistakes he said, and I quote: "ok, have the contractor do that if you want this to look like shit in 5 years".
- October 22nd: we receive an email stating; "we've tried send you several emails and phone calls with no response. You owe us the remaining balance of this job". This was the first outreach we'd received about the remaining balance.
- October 22nd: I respond by telling them this job is incomplete and wrong from the get go. We'd need to hire a new contractor to attempt to fix the mistakes made by CO Door Connection.
- October 23rd: I receive an email reminding me of the total amount owed, to which I responded to by stating my lack of desire to pay off the remaining balance in full.
- October 23rd: they respond by saying they actually gave us a discount!! "If you review the invoice attached you will see that you were only charged for 1 of the 2 doors that we ordered, saving you $722.60 for the actual doors. You will also see that you were not charged for pre-hanging the doors, which is an additional $250.00 savings. We've eaten the cost of one of the two doors and the cost of pre-hanging the unit, saving you a total of $972.60. This is a huge discount and we're trying our best to be fair, your final bill should've been $1,637.48 but we only ask for the $664.88 because of the issues that have occurred." These numbers were never quoted at the beginning. We had agreed the total job would cost $1,329.76. It's also clear an admission of a bad job when they state "because of the issues that have occurred."
- October 26th: we received a notice of intent to file a lien on our property. They've now resorted to bully tactics to collect money on a job that was incorrect from the beginning (miss measured the 'custom door', bad install, horrible customer service and follow up).
End-to-end the worst experience I've ever had related to the service industry. I will never recommend anyone to work with CO Door Connection for any type of job. read more
