Awakened again in the wee hours of the morning by the sound of drag racers tearing down the street not too far from my upstairs bedroom, my COVID-quarantined brain finally assembled an answer to my noise problem: WEATHERSTRIPPING
Although the house is 'new to me', the original owner did little to maintain the home in her 14 years before I bought it. HURD, the window manufacturer, was out of business and finding parts wouldn't be easy. Can't get this weatherstripping from the local big box... it's special.
With internet at hand, I found a schematic of the windows I believed were in my home at R and R Windows & Doors, who is a HURD replacement parts dealer!
Nothing is ever straightforward when you have limited knowledge of the products actually installed, so I took and sent photos as requested by the details on the website for clarification on my replacement part guesses. I wanted to make sure that I had all the right parts needed to replace not only the weatherstripping but also upgrade the original window operators giving a fresh look to them (as well as having my blinds not get tangled up in arms anymore!)
A few days later, I got an incredibly detailed email from Star, who offered some great suggestions and provided links to the products I would need.
In the process of taking a second set of pictures for clarification on a clip part I also was looking for, I was lucky enough to locate an original parts sticker on top of this window frame (a window which seems to never have been opened) which was a bonus too!
Star also directed me to videos produced with her family team members which are linked on the site and on YouTube. The videos were easy to follow and watching them helped build my confidence that I could tackle the project myself.
Ordering was easy and with free shipping I should receive my parts in time to take advantage of my remaining days staying safe at home.
Since many homes in my community have HURD windows, I will be passing along Star's name and the website for R and R Windows & Doors to my neighbors. Great customer service is a rarity these days, and when you experience it, you need to tell everyone about it.
Thank you, Star - your attention to detail certainly does shine! read more
