What a fun time here at Color Me Mine. We decided to add this to one of the things to do on my friend's bachelorette and we had a great time. I will say it's not the cheapest activity to do since they charge for the item and a studio fee so expect to pay around $35 if you choose something to paint on the cheaper end. We had a great time nonetheless! It was also tough to find parking since the parking garages were full we had to park in a further one so expect that if you go on the weekend like we did. It's been forever since I painted my own pottery and I forgot how much fun it is. We went on a weeknight and had the best time painting our own bowls. The pieces are a bit pricey, but there is such a wide variety of pottery to choose from along with a gorgeous selection of paints. The $10 studio fee covers your entire stay and you are welcome to spend as much time in the studio as you'd like. The worker was so kind and he walked us through each step of the painting process from filling out a form with what colors we'd like to taking care of our table and pieces when we were done. This was a bad experience from start to finish. I took my grandson in one afternoon to paint a plate as a Christmas gift for his mother. There was one person working and no one else working there. We got little to no help. Never notified that it was ready to pick up (when I called after Christmas I was told I was notified by email - I looked in my spam folder- no notification). Horrible service and very pricey. I would not recommend and will definitely not be going back. Total waste. read more

I forgot to take pictures while I was there, but anyways this is a good spot if you want to paint some pottery, a little pricey in my opinion, but I'm not sure of prices at others nearby. They charge a $10 studio fee on top of the price of the piece. If you don't finish and need to return, it's an additional $5. We had to come back a second time because we didn't get it all done in time being too meticulous haha so after all was done, it ended up being about $50 total. The staff is friendly. It was pretty busy on a Saturday night with only a table or two to choose from. You go in, find a place to sit, then go and pick a piece. From there, the staff collect your color choices and fill a palette for you. They periodically stop by to help you refill if needed. Since we came back a second time I was unsure if we had to remember our color numbers, but they had it on file for us :) We had returned on a Wednesday which was pretty quiet, we were the only ones at one point. What I love about this place versus You Do The Dishes is that you can pour your own paint. I love that amenity. It can be annoying to feel dependent on having someone else pour it for you. I love having paint freedom. I love that this place is much closer to me as well. It's a great way to kill some time and find your center. Painting for me does that. We picked Color Me Mine as our date option for the month of April. We really enjoyed painting pottery. First, you get to pick a piece of pottery to paint. Next, you can pick 6 colors to use on your piece. They had lots of tables to sit at and all the supplies you need to paint. I like how they had aprons you can wear while you paint! Once you're finished painting, you leave your piece there for them to fire in the kiln. The turn around time is less than 2 weeks! There are some renovations outside the store so it was confusing to find the entrance, but other than that we really enjoyed our time here. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Took my daughter here for a daddy-daughter outing. She had a blast. We picked out a workspace, chose an item to paint, picked out colors and got started. After applying three coats to each of our items over the course of an hour and a half, we were on our way. Fun time was had by all. Came in for pickup of our pottery we made on Father's Day. Received a call stating they were ready and to come pickup at my earliest convenience. Love that I don't feel rushed to pickup, that I can come in when I have the time to do so. So since we were traveling the past weekend, we headed over to pickup. They weren't busy and when we walked in we were greeted by a smiling face. I explained that I was there to pickup our pieces, she asked my name and headed to the back to get them. I couldn't wait to get home and open them!! It's always so exciting to see how they turned out. And they turned out perfect!!! Although I did forget to paint on eyebrows on my female gnome! This particular pottery painting place has a large selection of to-be-painted items to choose from, which I love. Not just bowls and plates that you can draw on and paint from scratch, but also items that you can color in-between the lines without having any artistic ability - like gnomes, skulls, and cats. Prices range from approx. $15/piece and up, plus a $10 painting fee. I went with a friend who had been there before and knew the lay of the land. If I had gone by myself, I would have been lost. Nobody greeted me or explained anything. Once I picked my piece, I had to track down the one store employee down to get my colors. Fortunately, they do have helpful tips on each table - like a reminder to paint three coats of color on your piece. They have a wide selection of colors to choose from, and a chart that shows what each color will look like after your piece has been in the kiln. They also seemed to have a lot of stencils and stamps for one to borrow instead of trying to draw freehand, all nicely organized in drawers. When you finish, you pay, and leave them a sheet with your contact information. They will fire your piece in the kiln, and it will be ready for pickup in about a week. My friend's piece broke in the kiln, and after reading other reviews, apparently that's not uncommon. I hope my maneki-neko (beckoning kitty) makes it out alive! read more

So much fun and so many pieces to choose from! The staff is so helpful and nice, too. I've had the chance to paint a few pieces at their Uncorked events at Irish 31 and also attended a birthday party in their studio in Hyde Park Village. It's always a great time and a pleasant surprise to pick up your piece after it's been in the kiln. The colors always pop nicely and looks great with a glossy finish. At the Uncorked events, you pay $30 and receive a bottle of wine and get to choose from a couple pottery options they give you. They provide a paint palette with numbered colors and stencils if you don't want to go freehand. Paint brushes, paint, plates, tape, everything you need is provided. Drink, paint, and unwind! Order food if you want, or not. They will also slump your wine bottle into a cracker plate for you. It's so much fun. If you go to the studio, you can pick from a plethora of pottery. You can go decorative knick knacks to functional. Each item has a price marked underneath and then you pay a studio fee. They will remind you to do three coats of paint for an opaque stroke-free finish. I've done this many times and my recommendation is to go over the color three times, but if you are painting letters (especially cursive), go for it once b/c it's almost impossible to go over it again exactly as you did the first time, and you'll be able to see the layers. If you leave anything unpainted, it's end ups a nice glossy white finish. Wait a few days for them to bake your piece and pick it up when you're free. It'll be a pleasant surprise. read more

We came one Sunday for a girls fun day. This was our first time and the ladies at the store were absolutely amazingly helpful. Located right in the middle of Hyde Park, this place is great if you want a low key girls day or even to have a kids birthday party! You first pick a piece to paint, then pick three colors and then you paint your heart out!! The place was pretty busy and even though we had a large group, the employees were very attentive and were answering the questions we had on our pieces. A couple of my friends picked fruit bowls, vases, coffee mugs. I picked to paint my favorite animal, the elephant! Pieces can be pricey but they do have cheaper options. My friends and I have been participating in the Irish 31/Color Me Mine Uncorked Occasions event for several months. The fee is only $30 and is a great value for your money. The $30 fee includes a bottle of wine, a piece of pottery to paint, paint and instruction, and the slumping of your wine bottle. When they slump your wine bottle, they heat the bottle and flatten it so that is can be used as decoration or a cheese plate. See my attached picture if you are confused. Naomi, Rochelle, and their staff are very friendly and helpful. They will give you the best advice so that your masterpiece will turn out how you wish. The studio is clean and roomy. There are a variety of pieces that you can choose from to put your finishing touches on. The studio can also be utilized to host any kind of party. If you are looking for a little something to do, try the Color Me Mine Studio Out. It is very therapeutic and in a couple weeks you will have something that you created on your own. read more

It's a little tricky to spot this place, if you're new to Hyde Park (as I was). The shop is tucked in, between Downtown Dogs store and the Wine Exchange Bistro/Bar. AND YES. Bring some snacks/drinks with you, they do allow you to do so. I did not think ahead about feeding myself or staying hydrated for the 4 hours I was there from 10am (which I most definitely was not prepared for), so I was ready to flip my table, chuck the paintbrushes in the fiery pits of...their kiln....., and bust outta there... So yeah. Do your inner-Picasso a favor and bring some water with you. You first pay $10 basically to use their generous painting supplies and to use their kiln for your beautified pottery, then you pay separately for each piece of pottery as well. I picked up a wine bottle holder ($12) and a tea cup/tea pot set ($25), and had me a painting party. A girlfriend I brought along chose a cute little gnome for ~$30 I believe. Not bad at all. The ladies there are friendly and will walk you through all the steps of the process. It does take them a week to bake your goods and have them ready to be picked up, so be patient! I'm anxiously waiting for mine to be ready. This would be a great girls day out activity, or a family event =) read more

There's no longer the weekly/daily specials like date night 2/1 studio fee etc. It also seems the pricing increased. All that being said I was still willing to go but the service is not the best. The 2 girls working are not friendly or attentive. They also freaked out when I tried to get a refill of my paint. I'm an adult not a 5 year of Who is going to make a mess or use too much. i've been a couple times and this was a return trip to "scout out" potential Christmas gifts. I did see some things that i'll pick up and work on the next time i'm in. on my last visit I completed a lighted Christmas Tree for myself. I loved this experience. When you come in if not greeted find staff in a black shirt. They give you the whole deal while you wait or seat you and give you instructions if one's available. Seating is limited. They have a great selection of pieces or just tiles for little ones. The prices range the least I seen was $4 for small tile piece. The staff is what really gets the 5 stars! They were amazing! They are very attentive. I went on a Saturday late afternoon. It was a full house. There were 2 parties there. We were there about 2 hours. This is the craziest establishment I have come across in a long time. I painted pottery with my daughter and two weeks afterwards I came in to pick it up and the place was closed down. They had no forwarding address, no notification to their patrons, and then when I tried calling there number it just rang and rang, no answer. They had moved across the street but no one ever picked up the phone and I was not always in town. Over a month later I finally got someone to pick up the phone. They told me they would hold it for a few weeks but I was leaving on vacation, when I returned they had already dumped my pieces instead of calling me to make sure I remembered to pick it up. This store is ridiculous!!!!!! My boyfriend and I made a box and a plate at Valentine's Day. It is really memorable for us. But I've been waiting for my package for 2 month!!! I asked and called the store several times and they just said ok I will call you back and nobody did!!! After I called them sixth or seventh times?? The owner angry with us because she has been to post office twice. How about I called your store seven times and nobody try to solve the problem? Should I feel tired?? You work at service industry. As a customer I always have patient to talk with you. Also, you think it broken it is not your fault, post office broke it... Ok.. I don't care who did it.. I just want my package.. But you refuse to give me because we wrote a poor review to your store??? I just want more people know how ridiculous your store is. And here I try to tell the truth about all story. So Disappointed! My husband and I had checked out Color Me Mine once before and planned to return on a Friday for their "Couples Special". We were both looking forward to it, but sadly we were so disappointed!!! On Friday, September 13 around 5 pm, we walked in, I placed my purse at a table, and we started looking for the pieces that we wanted to pant. There was no one else in the shop at the time we entered (or during the entire time we were there) other than one employee who gave a quick "hello" when we first entered. We spent about 15 or 20 minutes trying to decide what item we wanted to paint and how we wanted to paint them. During this entire period, the one employee - who appeared to be working on her own piece - did not ONCE offer us any help! She did not ask if we had been to the shop or one similar to it before, if we knew what we wanted to paint, if we had any questions, if she could help us pick something out, make suggestions -- nothing! After about 20 minutes of trying to figure out whether the shop had stencils or not (neither of us had been to this paint-your-own pottery store before), whether the employee would offer us help with different kinds of patterns, etc., we decided to leave. The fact that there was one employee and we were the ONLY ones in the shop and she DID NOT OFFER ANY HELP even though it was obvious that we were doing more than just giving the place a cursory look was so off-putting, we agreed that we won't ever return. I hope the Manager or Owner remind the employees that they are likely to encounter first-time painters or people who haven't been to that store before. A little help goes a long way! I can't imagine trying to bring children to this place -- don't expect any help from the staff!!!! We were so disappointed that our Friday 'date night' was a bust! Hopefully the staff will get a hint and be more proactive with potential customers in the future. read more

I thought this place and concept was pretty cool. I've never seen or done anything like this before, and it took a friend of my daughter inviting her to a birthday party to get me in here. There are all kinds of dishes, figurines, animals, wands, etc to choose from at various prices starting from around $15. There is also a small studio fee which entitles you to all of their materials(paints, brushes, etc). They have special days/events where this fee is cheaper or shared depending on the theme or promotion. You select your piece, paint it however you like, then they take it and bake it or whatever it is they do to make it finished and all shiny. The worst customer service I have experienced! I had an issue with an item they glazed (I received it with cracks all over it). When the employees couldn't help me, I asked to speak to the owner. The owner didn't want to take responsibility. The employees had to beg the owner to call me while I was in the store.
