During the consultation, she asked what I liked, what I was hoping for, and overall built great rapport and trust with me. I could tell she really wanted to do the best job she could and didn't want to disappoint. On the actual appointment day, she was really easy to talk to and continued to check in to make sure I liked the cut, the length, and the shades of color. Overall it was a great experience. I went here a long time ago and it was great. Tried it again recently and it is not the same. I requested blonde hair, but ended up with grey and purple. Was sold a product that was not good. The price was different each time I went and way overpriced considering my hair was still wet when I left. Last straw was when they charged me $120 on my credit card without notice because I cancelled an appointment due to being sick. (I cancelled more than 24 hours before the appointment.) When I was upset about this charge and asked them to reverse it, they did, but not without a rude email. The place was just not professional at all. This is a great place to go for a haircut! Very reasonable prices, and one of the best haircuts I've ever had- probably THE best haircut. Trey cut my hair. He is very sociable, sweet, and accommodating. I told him what I wanted - something funky but not too out there, since I work at a pretty conservative place. Not only did Trey listen to me, but he got August (the owner) involved too! As Trey was cutting my hair, he asked August what he thought about doing various things to give me more texture and whatnot (I didn't understand a lot of their jargon). August gave his input, and even got out his scissors to cut my hair, too. Two stylists for the price of one! I felt like they really listened to me, and did their best to give me what I wanted. They showed me different ways to style my hair so that it could be professional vs. trendy. And I just can't emphasize enough how nice it was to have two stylists, working together, to give me the best haircut for my texture, length, and requests. I tried another salon after this one, and was VERY disappointed with the service given and the price I paid. So, normally I would wait a while before writing a review, but I had an experience that surpassed my expectations. Before: I booked an appointment out of frustration with my hair, not really wanting anything in particular. I was just done with how heavy and cumbersome having extremely long hair had become. That said, I've had my hair cut by really terrific stylists as well as really lazy ones. My hair is exceptionally thick. Prior to my appointment it was hitting my lower back and had very few layers, plus some grown out bangs... I just wanted some length and weight taken out of it and to update my bangs. During: August was attentive and friendly, but our silence as he worked, was never awkward. He asked the right questions, gave me a few tidbits of info that gave me insight into what he was seeing as he worked. Most importantly, he was thorough - cutting for a while after blowing out my hair. This is a sign of a good stylist. I knew going into this appointment that cutting my hair would be a lot of work and I never was left with the impression that he was cutting corners (har har). He gave himself enough time to see me through to the end. The atmosphere in the salon was bright and relaxed. The products used on my hair all smelled incredible. August's tools were clearly cared for and never pulled or yanked as he sheared/razored. After: The end result is a haircut I truly love. August guided me to a really great balance of classic layers and funky, asymmetrical bangs. Most importantly he was gracious with his time and talent. I came to see him after another salon gave me trashy blonde when I asked for sun-kissed and I walked out of the Color Geek with perfect summer blonde highlights. He was meticilous about applying the color, checking on it during the processing and making sure he had the foils where he wanted, then straightened my naturally wavy hair to get the cuts precisely where he wanted that would give me "beachy waves". When I washed it two days later I had those waves with just a bit of product and I was out the door. As someone who hates using heavy styling products and heat on her hair, I seriously could NOT be happier about the cut or the color (including the peek-a-boo pink streaks!). If you go there you must do the Awapuhi Wild Ginger Treatment. I did, and my hair has never been so soft! Its been a week since i was there and my hair is still as soft as it was the first day. And the cut! I love it. i wanted to go short, and i was so nervous, but Trey made it so easy. He didnt go too short, and gave my such a cute syle with some side swept bangs. The cost is so cheap too! As they were coloring my hair with processors, my scalp was literally on fire, it was attempted to be corrected with a toner that burned even worse. Recently moved to Wilmington Island from the Chicago area and was hoping to find a stylist nearby. I have long blonde hair that is dyed red underneath. It has been that way for about two years now. I was hoping to begin the process of transitioning back to all blonde. With a name like the Color Geek Salon, I thought they would be the perfect choice. Stopped in to see if I could set up an appointment. The first woman I spoke to asked me about the red color, took a look at it then went in the back to ask another stylist. That stylist came out and he looked at my hair, asked me the same questions then went in the back. He came back out and said he wanted the owner to take a look at it but he is currently busy with a client. He asked if he could take down my name and the owner would give me a call. I said sure no problem. That was three weeks ago and I never heard from them. So either my coloring was too complicated for them or they just didn't care about my business.
