Best fried chicken (& waffles) ! Almost tastes like the chicken is fried in waffle batter or something. I don't know what's their secret but it was delicious

I've been to Colonial Kitchen a couple of times for brunch. Can't believe I've driven by for so many years and never tried it. Very classic feeling diner in the main room, nostalgic aesthetic. Decent breakfast options and fresh squeezed OJ is a plus. I'd skip the turkey sausage in the future...but their omelettes and Titan Breakfast are decent. Choice of hashbrowns or O'Brien (w/ onions & bell peppers) and choice of bread (white, wheat, or sourdough). Their pancakes were good too, their mix is already a bit sweet. Service is a little slow. Sometimes they have open tables, but just not enough staff. Parking lot is small, otherwise there is also street parking. Restrooms are fairly clean.

On a Sunday morning at 9:10am in Early June, my hubby and I came here for breakfast. The place wasn't too busy at all. We were nicely greeted and sat in a table. It was hard to decide what to get. I already a morning snack before I came here, so I ordered chicken n waffles. I love the old school interior and vibe. They have tables and booths. They played nostalgia music in the background. The waffle was thick and huge. The fried chicken pieces were crispy and not greasy. The staff came by several times to refill water and coffee. I got full by eating Fried chicken and waffles. I will definitely come back again for lunch or dinner.

I was truly disappointed in how much quality control has gone down. 2 years ago, we visited for a Thanksgiving lunch, and today we went again because our family turkey dinner plans were canceled last minute. Ordered the Thanksgiving plate (it was tasty last time I ordered it) and when the server brought my plate out, I was appalled before even taking a bite. Everything (turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, veggies, etc) were previously frozen, canned or boxed. Needless to say, I couldn't eat much. I only asked for a takeaway box to feed our neighborhood cats (including the pie). My boyfriend read ownership changed. Needless to say, we won't return again. I look forward to Thanksgiving every year because I love a traditional Thanksgiving meal and love to celebrate friends and family and how thankful I am. This meal was depressing. Then and now pics posted.

I ordered the stuffed French toast. It's.... I don't even know. Honestly I think it could do without the cream cheese. The cream cheese addition wasn't bad nor was it great. It was honestly just confusing. I LOVE cream cheese so I was okay with it. But if you don't, you'll hate it. I think it dries up the french toast a bit. The French toast itself was NOT dry. The crunch was absolutely perfect. The peanut butter? Yum. But peanut butter and cream cheese? What? I waited for my stomach to reject it, but it didn't. So I guess it went down okay. Service was fine. Kind of odd that the guy waited for us all to squeeze in to a booth before saying "do you guys want to sit at that other booth? It's bigger." But the booth size was perfect for us. It was just squeezing to get IN to the booth. The table and wall was quite close and we had to move the table to a crooked angle to get in.

I drive by the Colonial Kitchen often and I finally had the opportunity to try it out. It was VERY expensive. With a tip, I walked out having paid over $35! For just me. The food was good, but not great and at those prices, I am expecting great!! My waitress and the man at the register were nice.

Date of visit: May 8, 2026…read more Selections: Lechera Waffle Chilaquiles Verdes Experience: I was craving waffles and decided to give this place a try after scrolling through the DoorDash app. This place drew me in because they offered chilaquiles too, so I got an order of lechera waffles and their chilaquiles verdes. The delivery took about 50 minutes to get to me after ordering and I was a bit nervous about how soggy both would be, especially the chilaquiles since I like when the chips are mostly hard still. I was pleasantly surprised and thankful that the salsa for the chilaquiles came on the side and though the waffle wasn't as crispy as I thought it would be, it was thick and fluffy and tasted great with the toppings. The salsa for the chilaquiles had a kick to them that I enjoyed and it went great with the cheese, red onions, and sunny side egg that came with it. I definitely would want to check this place out in person and try their other options as well!

They have a special menu for kids. In addition, they have fresh drinks, smoothies, lemonades, ice tea, latte, variety of coffee options ,and shakes. I got their chicken sausage burrito. The food was delicious and the portion was huge. My friend ordered a matcha latte and Huevos A La Mexicana. It had scrambled eggs, tomatoes, onion, with sides of potatoes and bread. We both enjoyed our breakfast. The service was very fast. The staff were nice and welcoming. It is a nice cafe to stop by and have a delicious breakfast or lunch. Would definitely come back!

Once you walk in you can smell the sausage roll and meat pies being made fresh! They have a general menu of what flavors they have for the day or week not sure. They do ask if you like them to warm it up for you in case you are eating it on the spot. I said no and took it home to put in the air fryer. I can't wait to go back and try other things they have. Hubby got the Classic Aussie sandwich and the bread pudding, while my son and I got the Beef Pho meat pies and Popcorn Pork meat pie rolls. The beef pho meat pie definitely had the pho flavors and aromatics. This was absolutely delicious! The Popcorn Pork was good, not as aromatic as the pho pie. The flavor was lacking on the Taiwanese popcorn chicken basil flavor that it claimed. It reminded me more of a Vietnamese meat pie (pate chaud), which is peppery with a smoother texture that this one did not have, but it was still flavorful. The bread pudding was good but the texture was more dense reminding me of a banana bread loaf. I didn't care for the dollop of yogurt on top, which took away from the flavor of the bread pudding itself. Hubby said the Classic Aussie was good but was expensive for the size of the sandwich (small burger size). Hubby got the Long Black coffee which was good, but sadly my iced matcha latte was lacking in the matcha flavor. It was very pale in color and tasted mostly of milk. Service was quick and friendly. I will come back for the meats and try the other flavors of the meat pies next time.

But this one deserves a bit more detail for the 3 stars. We came here at my husband's cravings for eggs Benedict for his birthday brunch. It was a Saturday around 1PM. There were crowds, but it didn't feel overwhelmingly busy. I will say they seemed well staffed, which made service feel prompt and welcomed. Everyone in the team appeared friendly. The person who made our lattes also made an effort to clarify our order (lattes with Oatmilk with cream foam - which u know can be confusing. I'm giving up whole milk for the fats and lactose, but a little bit of cream won't hurt). We chose Mari Vees over other nearby spots mainly because of the style and ambiance, which truly delivered... beautiful, modern, and inviting on Yelp. We ordered the iced Spanish latte, iced matcha latte, classic eggs Benedict, and chilaquiles with beef. As soon as the plates landed on our table, before we even had a chance to taste anything, a well-dressed gentleman (who seemed more senior than the rest of the staff) came over and asked how everything was. We felt compelled to give the automatic "everything is good." To be fair, the flavors did hit the spot. The lattes were yummy (and shoutout to the cute aesthetics), the chilaquiles were perfectly savory, and the sauce on the eggs Benedict was rich and creamy. However, the reason this lands at 3 stars is the eggs Benedict itself. The poached eggs were overcooked. Poached eggs should be runny and creamy, not firm. We brought this up to our server, Jeremiah, but he responded that it was "poached hard." I was confused... was that intentional? I checked the menu again (good thing I take pictures), and it simply says "poached eggs." Later, when we were paying, the same gentleman returned, who I inquired and learned goes by the name, Victor. This time, he didn't ask about our experience, but I knew I had to say something. I shared praise along with a lighthearted and humorous question about the overcooked eggs. He admitted they should be runny and said "we should have told them"... BUT WE DID! I debated addressing it in person versus sharing here on Yelp. Unfortunately, it felt like the team wasn't equipped to properly handle feedback. Instead of acknowledging the issue, we felt dismissed and gaslighted. I still gave a 18% tip (our total was $60+) , slight lower than our usual 20%... but I know everyone works hard in there. Overall, it had the potential to be a great experience, but the mishap left a sour note and pretty much ruined our afternoon. Not sure we'll be back.
